Inflation is at 20% lets say and my asset appreciates over time retaining value and in golds case actually out pacing inflation. So the blue lines represent wealth but in the form of assets while the red represents people holding cash. As its added to the system the cash value decreases while the asset value usually out paces inflation. (Unless a recession in which case we all fucked)
