This is absolutely your best ever video Noel. An amazing complex itinerary to book especially as so many countries like Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, China require a visa and you had to run the risk that, although no visa should be required for transit, things can go horribly wrong with the wrong immigration officer on duty! I’m in awe of your trip planning and booking skills. If you look at Head for Points UK one of their patterns is also doing the Skyteam challenge and it was amazing that you met others encounter doing the same thing.
@johanholmberg3579Ай бұрын
Late 1997, I think it was, when Star Alliance was formed, SAS did something similar. If you flew with each of the five founding members in a month or two, you got awarded 2 round trip tickets with each one, to be used within 12 or 18 months, I cannot remember. I believe it was SAS, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Air Canada and United Airlines. I heard about this offer 4 days before the last permitted day of travel, somehow managed to sort out an itinerary and on and off during three days of travels shared the experience with a bunch of other travel hackers. At the passport control in Toronto, I was stopped and the officer would not let me through unless I could explain why I was the 100th or so young Scandinavian the last days who would just arrive late at night and take a morning flight out of Canada. Needless to say, the 5 return tickets were very well utilized the following year!

As a Chinese who have flown with almost all major airlines in China, I'd have to say for some reason, China has the strictest security check in the whole world. That includes all the airports in China mainland. Beijing, as the captial city and the political center, is the strictest here. So sorry for the bad experience transfering here. But normally nobody should empty their bag during security check, even in China. BTW that no tossing sign is because some superstitous elderly Chinese people believe tossing coin into the aircraft engine can be good luck, which in real life can only bring engine failure...

Hi Noel! That was an absolutely stunning video and I'm glad you delivered in a magnificent fashion! As a very frequent flyer of SkyTeam I often complain it for many reasons, but I'm still very glad to be part of this journey even though online! Please do allow me to also express a few opinions on Chinese Airports though, as I'm a frequent traveller through Chinese airports. Though the security check was very annoying, many airports are investing in state-of-the-art x-ray machines which do not require to take out anything, and they have just lifted the volume permitted to carry to 100mL, which is better than nothing. What makes your journey really painful could be the language barrier as the language training for staff members are in general quite bad, as a Chinese speaker I never encountered any problems travelling through or to China.
@TheKenningtonJunction7 сағат бұрын
Still please do consider visiting China as a tourist - she is very beautiful and also got amazing planes! What you experienced in Thailand is likely due to Ground Staff being an agent since I'm pretty sure they are not directly employed by China Eastern. With the new transit visa policy now in place (144 hrs with certain places granted 240ish hrs) things should be even easier.

Chinese here❤ love it when you struggle to pronounce Guangzhou😂😂 and didn't understand as you said Xiamen Airline😂😂 actually it sounds more like shamen instead of jamen but never mind you video is fantastic🎉 another interesting thing is the xianmen airline on board meals are generally very well-received here in China so I guess it is cooked catering to oriental taste. And about the Chinese airport security thing, I absolutely agree with every word of you. They are just notoriously tedious and frustrating even for domestic fights and connections, not to mention the international ones. Basically everything is just a bit of a faff. Here in China, we joke that all these troubles are meant to get people traveling by train😂And the phenomenon you mention about the lady shouting into a mic is also interesting. I think there is really something cultural going on behind this, as people from other countries seem less likely to do that. One reason might be that Chinese people seem to be often highly "immune" to sound from a speaker, which might be due to the fact that back in the days that's what they use every day in every community during "communism construction". Even today it is used everywhere and sometimes too casually in China. As a result, the speaking person might forget to lower voice when needed, and listeners often pay little or no extra attention. I guess that's why in public nowadays in China we still see people shouting into mic even when it's oblivious unnecessary. More like a habit with cultural background. Keep on with great videos🎉 and in the future you might want to consider avoiding flights through China really😂😂

I don't know how Noel does it flying back to back to back flights. I just got back to Houston from Cebu and still feel and dream of the turbulence.

Have you heard that Philippine Airlines is eyeing Houston? I hope everything goes through
@whiskers78753Ай бұрын
@@millennialaviation I haven't actually but given all the Filipinos in the Houston area it doesn't surprise me. I don't know but that might be too long of a flight for me. The flight between Houston (IAH) and Tokyo (NRT) was long enough for me. I prefer doing it the old fashion way IAH-->HNL-->GUM-->MNL, then use Cebu Pacific for any inter-island travel. The only drawback to doing it this way is the first flight which always seems to be delayed and the possibility of a misconnection in Honolulu.

That's epic! As an aviation enthusiast, I really enjoy (and sometimes envy) your trips. I really enjoyed your Southernmost to Northernmost and now this all Skyteam flights. You take us on all sorts of airlines, airports, and corners of the world. Would be really helpful for many if you also give us your rating for the hotels along your trips or some ongoing deals.

At last. I got sick of hearing the mis-pronunciation
@qwaszx2Ай бұрын
@Marco-w2l Yea, chatgpt exists. I constantly google how to pronounce things. I will say it's a bit of British pride to butcher words, and the transliteration of Chinese to English is garbage. You will always fail if you don't know the place.
@peterzhou372Ай бұрын
@@qwaszx2It’s also a British pride to mispronounce words in Spanish and French, even the most basic greetings, just like how Noel did it on his AM, AR, UX and AF flights.

@@peterzhou372 While he ate fillit miggnawn. The weirdest language absurdity for me is how English people say Metis correctly in French, but French Canadians says it like a redneck in English would say it.

As an Irishman, this is very typical for me to hear an Englishman mispronounce words, at times seemingly quite deliberately, and with pride. I find it hard to believe that a man who has travelled so much in the world seems to lack so much self awareness.

What a journey Noel, and again such an enjoyable video as you took us to all these airports most people would normally not see in real life. I mean flying and transferring through China, WoW. I didn't even know American citizens were welcome there. Also so cool to see all these different airline companies and the planes they use. Truly enjoyed this one Noel! 😍

I will get round to watchin it later... But watching you suffer through a video is so much fun lol And please don't take this as a bad comment this is just the most enjoyable and makes me appreciative that I dont have to do it, What shocked me the most was the Greyhound videos you would never get away with that service in the UK or the rest of Europe.

Noel, you've gotta work on the China airport stuff. It's starting to feel like an agenda. I feel like you're missing the chance to highlight some of the positives (like you usually do in other places) because you're getting so annoyed by the security check. I get it, it sets me off a bit too when they want to check the bag deeper. The main thing is having the battery packs out and having the bags organized for relatively easy repacking. I started flying regularly in China and there are quirks, but I'll deal with Chinese airport security over TSA or some other places with shoe removal every day. Come to Chengdu for real and I'll show you around some cool things in the city. Also, TFU has the greatest sculpture in the airside garden with the panda throwing a paper airplane.
