Influencer Boxing's HUGE Problem...

With Misfits hosting their first non-ksi ppv with Danny Aaarons vs Danny Simpson at Misfits 17, it had me looking at the card thinking how did we end up here. In such a new space which has the potential to work alongside the sport of boxing, they may end up alike to the celebrity boxing promotions of old if they stay on the same path.

This might be the first time we have disagreed on something cloister lol. I’m personally a huge fan of influencer boxing. I think it teaches boxers how to promote themselves and get more eyes on their fights. It also helped to introduce me into professional boxing and MMA, so obviously I’m grateful. Also, it has helped changed people’s lives significantly so I think it’s a good thing tbh, the skill level may not be the highest but just imagine it being amateur boxing with very excessive press conferences and promo

I like influencer boxing and as I said I see the massive positive impact it has, I just don't wanna see it go down the route of traditional celebrity boxing. Seeing big matches or at least matches with good promo I get behind, yet matches involving people literally no one has ever heard of and trying to pass it off to the fans as something great, I don't like. @@CloisterYT Oh, yeah no actually I completely agree. Idk if you paid attention to the Misfits event last night but there was a fight between 2 complete randoms in Jake Cornish and Mike Edwards. Mike has at least got a big following but both are dry on the mic and looked mid in the ring. I defo agree that matches like that filled with no-names is not good for the sport and oversaturates the cards greatly. I feel like we were both on the same wavelength in the end lol. Still enjoyed the video nonetheless and cant wait to see where you take the channel in the future.

I think the main issue is the risk vs reward game. You aren't able to easily get big influencers as they aren't willing to risk injuries for less than satisfactory pay. That was the issue with Kingpyn as, they overpaid their fighters and went bankrupt as a result.

KSI vs Joe Weller happened the same year as Fury Wilder 1 and Connor vs Khabib, and was my first real introduction to combat sports all those years ago. It definitely has its place, and people need to show it a bit more respect. But yeah someone of the shows that Misifts are chugging out at this point are pretty embarrassing.

Your point about the bigger influencers not fighting is so true. Gib prices himself out like he's the gypsy king or something. Deji is more consistent with his McDonalds routine than his training. Whindersson Nunes no idea what he is doing. KSI was about to fight but he didn't get his injury treated for some reason (he has known this since October of last year or earlier). Jake will KO a grandpa. Logan is retired and busy with wrestling.

I'm huge into UFC and have been for years only recently tuned into boxing because of McGregor and Floyds fight. Never watched any boxing before but I knew Floyd name and thought why not. Can't recall fully but I do remember seeing them tease Tank Davis and then I tuned in on his fights which lead me to watch AJ & Fury which then got me hooked. I also wanted to see Jake Paul get beat up but never enjoyed watching those fights.

The problem is that everyone keeps giving them a platform for their embarrassing fights. People have a hard enough time with regular boxing, let alone this “influencer” crap. And that’s another thing, the fact that we have to name it “influencer boxing” and not just “boxing” is because everyone knows including these guys that they are NOT REAL boxers, they’re a bunch of conman who want to have the glory of a boxer but could never achieve it because they suck.

In my opinion, there are two ways that you could look at Influencer Boxing. You can look at it as a promotion where people with big followings just fight, or you can look at it as glorified amateur boxing where you take influencers with actual boxing experience and build their brands through putting them in tournaments or in competitive fights with each other. I honestly have enjoyed the lightweight and cruiserweight tournaments; it's because of these competitive, technical, high stakes fights that we want to see these fighters perform at the highest level in their divisions. Not to mention that influencer boxing allows for fighters to get a lot of promotion and fan exposure as opposed to professional boxing where only main event fights are really promoted.
