Hi, Thanks for your video. In your example, you are putting the Sponsor as Accountable and I totally see why but in my experience we see often the Sponsor as the person or position that approves the budget. As Accountable we often see the person who ordered the product. So the sponsor might bee Accountable at the Start and the Closure of the project, maybe also for signing off some critical mile stones. Is that common practice or are we doing something uncommon? 🤔

Hi Rob, thanks for your feedback. I’ve seen that situation too - it seems pretty common in IT projects that the expectation is the sponsor is only accountable for providing the funds. So, you’re not doing something uncommon. What we have seen though is various project failures have been attributed to poor sponsor engagement - it’s a pretty common finding in audits. So now it’s considered better practice in project management to have sponsors getting more involved in the project. Despite that, I have found myself in the position of explaining this to sponsors at various organisations only to be greeted with blank looks, and occasionally irritation. The case for greater sponsor involvement needs to be made at the organisational leadership level - a single PM attempting to push those responsibilities up the hierarchy will struggle to succeed. @@InfluentialPMO Thanks for your quick answer. Our company is well aware of the importance of sponsor engagement, but I know what you mean from project in other companies. Especially if the sponsor was a external customer who "just" ordered a product. But it was a good reminder for me keeping an eye on the sponsors and their responsibilities ;)
