Thankyou so much for getting this info out there, subbing and adding to fav's. Big thumbs up. I just had my new graphics card arrive only to be greeted by a DVI-d dual link socket I had never seen this type before, only having seen DVI-i dual link before. So my new card is DVI-d DL and my moniter is DVI-i DL, I am now hoping a DVI-d DL cable will get me connected.

hi there, yeah some HDTV's are a bit funny about DVI-D cables i have a PC in my living room and i have an Nvidia 8800 GT but i had to get a duel link cable for mine to work, so I'm guessing it's the same issue your having, it sorted mine out so it should be fine with what you have just ordered. with the audio side of things. unless your source is HDMI compatible the DVI cable wont stream audio just video. thanks for you comment. nice one!!!

Hi, sure dual link cables still work on a single display, its just that it has the extra pins to be able to use 2 monitors with. dual link cable should still fit into a single link socket,(rare cases it might have a strange connector, generally all consumer electronics just uses a dual link socket even if its not a linkable display. if the display has no way of using the pins for that function, they just wont connect to anything. hope this helped Thank you for your comment. Nice One : )

well done. One thing (which maybe was not a factor when you recorded this) to note is that modern monitors with really high (above HD) resolutions such as 27 and 30" monitors will require a DIV-D Dual Link (full block of pins) cable to work properly. They usually will come with one, but if you are swapping out an older monitor, and are tempted to use your existing cable, check carefully that the existing cable is Dual Link.. if it is not, the display will look really crappy

hey thanks much James, that was a very good explanation. saved a lot of time. I was scratching my head about this new graphics card, will receive it today, I just bought and it said it has a DVI-I slot (did not notice until after I saw the video that it is actually a DIV-I dual link) and I know for sure my monitor is having a DVI-D slot. So I think I will be good to go if I just connect that cable to the DVI-I dual link slot on the GPU

@springer841 To be honest with you there pretty much the same thing. although HDMI can be more convenient because it streams audio as well. but in terms of performance you probably won't see much of a difference, DVI tends to be cheaper, so if there is no performance benefits than its not worth going out a spending big money on a HDMI monitor. Hope this helps and thank for your comment. nice one!!!

@sinhalaboy thats ok even i get confuses some times. yes you can plug dvi-d in dvi-i,so your monitor has dvi-d socket and your graphics card has a dvi-i socket so you will want to get a dvi-d cable (if it doesn't include one as some do) plug one it into your dvi-d socket on your monitor and other end into your cards dvi-i socket that will work. if you have a display port that great threes a big range of card coming out now with display ports and there quite cheap. hope this helped. nice one!!!
@viperfrank15 жыл бұрын
hi there sorry for taking so long to reply, sure DVI-I can accommodate dual or single of all types of DVI cable, a single link cable still fits into a dual link socket. so if your monitor has a DVI-D single just buy a DVI-D (single) cable that will fit into the DVI-I socket on your graphics card. hope this helped and thanks for your comment. nice one!!!

hi there, it depends on what you have on the back of your PC, if you have a VGA than adapting it to DVI to use the DVI port on the back of your monitor is pointless you will not gain any quality. however if you have got a DVI connector on the back of your PC and than use the DVI you will get the benefits of a DVI connection (faster response time, better color depth, e.x) hope this answers your question and thank for your comment. nice one!!!

@viperfrank13 жыл бұрын
@craigjaggs It depends on the monitor, if your just using an average dell monitor than it might not be worth the extra cost, if you don't notice the differenced. If you had a £500 neovo monitor or something like that, than it would be worth the extra cost. however you will get a slightly sharper image with the DVI as a posed to Dsub. And for gaming some people including my self have noticed a slight increase in frame rate. I hope this helped and thank you for your comment. nice one!!!
@TeaSmuggler13 жыл бұрын
@rrgert4 Imo its because the people who made the monitor wants it to be compatible with as many cables as possible, even if the cable and the output source is only able to use 2/3 of the pins(single link). In other words the more holes, the more compability, even if hardware is only able to make use of single link.So even if the ports looks like they can make use of dual, it might only be because they want the ability to fit hardware with dual cables. Try google:"what are single and dual links"

you cant use that dual link cable to run 2 monitors. dual link just supports a bigger monitor for example up to a 30" monitor with a res of 2560 x 1600. if you want to use 2 monitors your graphics card will have to have 2 dvi ports. single has 1 transmitter and dual has 2 transmitters does it means how much signal it can provide not how many monitors unless you have a splitter.
@viperfrank13 жыл бұрын
@bardhiRKS Hi there, yes you can, DVI-I will accommodate a DVI-D cable. so yes it will fit. that's a nice card your getting. thanks for your comment. nice one!!!
@viperfrank15 жыл бұрын
oh ok.. if your card has a slot on it that looks like the one in the video at 5:40 (maybe a different color though, white?) than you use that one for connecting DVI, all the HDMI means is that you can get a little dongle thing that plugs into that DVI socket and converts it to a HDMI connector. if you don't have one of those slots it may have a smaller one looks a little bit like a USB socket but longer thats a HDMI socket.

@springer841 thank you. to be honest with you 99% of graphics cards come with a DVI-I and DVI -I will fit all of them so go with what's on your monitor. also 99% of DVI compatible monitors use DVI-D, so just go with a DVI-D and that should do you just fine. I did another video on this subject you might want to check that one out as well. also get your cable on line form like eBay or amazon or something, there a lot cheaper. hope this helped and thanks again for your comment. nice one!!!
@viperfrank15 жыл бұрын
hi there, thats a nice simple set up and you wont need a new monitor. your card has a DVI-I slot so that will except any of the tree DVI cables and your monitor has a DVI-D slot, DVI-D will fit into a DVI-I. so all you need is a DVI-D cable. plug one end into your monitor and the other end into your DVI-I slot (it will fit) and bingo simple as that! if you need any more info there is another video on my channel that shows you how to do exactly what i just explained hope this helped. nice one!!!

im pretty sure dual link cables are for ultra high res screens(2560x1600), not two screens. i don't even think dvi supports daisy chaining because the graphics card needs a special chip for each monitor its connected too, and most if not all have just two(displayport doesn't need this chip, so thats why you see graphics cards with 5 or 6 PD connectors). Just FYI, hdmi is just a miniaturized dvi-d connector with audio. HERES A TIP GUYS, if your ever in doubt, use a DVI-D cable.

@viperfrank12 жыл бұрын
Its OK, don't stress. so I take it the cable that you have has got a Xbox connector on one end and a DVI-D on the other. if so your monitor should still except a duel link plug. if not you got a few options. you could try and find an adaptor that goes form dual to single link. or you could just get a DVI coupler and the shortest single link DVI-D cable you can get and put that on the end to adapt it. if not amazon has got a really good return policy you could just send it back.

WARNING: If you got a VGA to DVI-I adapter but a DVI-D socket, DO NOT clip off the 4 pins on the adapter to make it a VGA to DVI-D. This could blow up the whole thing (or it just won't work) since you're connecting a analogue only VGA signal directly into a digital only DVI-D receiver, unlike the DVI-I. You can do the mentioned trick with a sole DVI-I to DVI-I cable on both ends, though.

hi there, sorry for taking so long to reply. if you bought a graphics card that had DVI only as long as it was DVI-I it would fit any other type of DVI monitor, DVI-I is universal its excepts DVI-I, -D, or A. to be honest with you 95% of dedicated DVI card now are DVI-I now so you should be fine. but yes if the card was DVI-I you could use I, D or A.. i hope this answered your question and thanks for your comment. sorry again for taking so long to reply nice one!!

@X360HotSwap That's why I don't recommend you do it, its a bit dodgy, if you did plug it in and it shorted it probably wouldn't do much,most likely the video output decoder would detect the short and shut down and stop receiving data from the chip-set until the short was removed. So basically, black screen. But I still don't recommend you try it, you never know what it might do. Thanks for your comment. Nice One ; )

@craigjaggs no problem, not massively, unless you buy one that is really cheap and nasty than you probably will. but as long as you get a fairly decent one you probably won't notice the difference. unless its made by apple I would avoid ones that claim to have loads of bells and whistles, because its just going to be more useless stuff that is ether not going to be compatible or will just go wrong. hope this helped and thanks for your comment. nice one!!!

Thanks a lot mate. Saved me a lot of trouble. Just a question, for now my monitor is connected to my PC via VGA cable since my monitor have both VGA and DVI-D, but I've only VGA cable, so had to get VGA Adapter since my video card had only DVI-I. Will quality improve if I connect my PC and monitor via DVI cable and is there such cables when on one end it's DVI-I and on other DVI-D? Or should I simply get DVI-D cable and use that, since it will fit into my video card DVI-I slot?
