@enemyv7 жыл бұрын
The thing that bothers me the most is that you have to slice the watermelon in half with a knife anyway before using it. So what's the point of dirtying an extra slicer? Just cut it up with the knife that's already in your hand. Nobody wants watermelon slices with the rind off anyway. How are you supposed to eat it, with a knife and fork?
@MediumRareOpinions7 жыл бұрын
EnemyViolent Gaming Exactly, adding extra tools that do the same job is just redundant. Something true of most of these chopping gadgets is that they are so specialised they can't be used in thw variety of ways a knife can, yet a knife can easily do the same job they can to a similar or higher standard. How they Manage to sell people an inferior tool to replace a cheaper and superior tool is baffling.

So instead of one knife you need two. A regular and the slicer. Which means more clean up. It's not that hard to cut the melon into fourths and then cut it out from there. the wire on that slicer looks a little too big for the job, it's causing more resistence then if it had been a really really thin wire. the slice right looked to be thinner, but I've never used one to know if it's any better then that one.
@jackmcslay7 жыл бұрын
Probably, although that possibly makes the original more fragile as well
@lorddestrustor88287 жыл бұрын
There's also the matter that you'd want the wire to be rather sturdy so that it doesn't crumple and bend when you squeeze the slicer to pull a slice out of the melon. That puts a limitation on how thin the wire can be.

Hey Mike, big fan. There's nothing wrong with the watermelon, it's possibly just not entirely ripe (but will still be delicious, hope it got eaten!) Watermelon is notoriously difficult to cut because of it's size and how dense the fruit is packed within the skin. Which is why they come up with these daft ideas. But a good old fashioned knife does the job easy enough. Keep uploading! :)

Watermelons here are about like a sherbet or bread inside (it's like a very soft apple). I don't know what that thing Mike rolled around was. Note how the watermelon in the infomercial doesn't move at all when the lady's cutting it. I'll bet it's had its bottom sliced off to give it a flat surface. And yeah, even if it cuts awesome, there's no getting around how much meat it'll waste cutting square wedges out of a rounded rind.

...This watermelon slicer is a total disaster. Just use a blasted knife. It's a lot easier to control, cuts through the flesh of a watermelon perfectly and can cut through the melon's shell without a problem. As a side note, that looks like a rather dry watermelon. Not the juicy delicious ones that are worth eating. The ones that are (admittedly very messy) but rich in liquid (giving it the _water_ melon name). A bit of salt can be really good on a super rich watermelon and tastes amazing during a hot summer. I think the best (for me anyway) was during a super hot dry day in the apex of summer.

Another example of trying to re-invent the simple concept of a knife, and doing it poorly. Seriously, this doesn't even have applications for people with arthritis or other dexterity problems. The one you got did seem to have a pretty thick bar at the end which would have made things more difficult than they needed to be, but just a simple knife that was properly sharp would be better in pretty much every way.

Even if he had used a ripe watermelon, and had someone else to hold the watermelon still so he could more properly dig in to it, this product still sucks. It's fundamentally flawed. You can't use a square tool to scoop out of a round container without leaving behind lots of waste. It'd be like trying to scoop all the sand out of a bowl with a shovel.
@SkunkI.D.7 жыл бұрын
It's probably not true, but I tend to find the seedless watermelons have a much firmer texture, even when past ripe. Where else the traditional seeded fruit, becomes very tender, as you would expect, to the point where the center of the melon can develop an almost "slush" like texture, usually around where the fruit's meat wants to give and split with little coxing. Perhaps try one of those type, if the inclination ever arrives. It would always be interesting to see how the sliver handles seeds.

An actual wire would help with the harder melon. It looked mostly ripe from the way the flesh crumbled when you tried to pick it up... but it was possibly too cold. @cheezeofages7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Aside from the melon looking not fully ripe the design also looks like it would work better if you stabbed it in, pivoting in a sort of scooping motion so that the tip is pushing through and not pulling with the tip more easily being able to follow the curve, and then levered it out and repeated on the other side if needed. Then after the second go from the other side just pinch and lift. I dunno how the edges are though.
@patrickdix7727 жыл бұрын
