I've been using this "Ned Rig" since I was a kid back in the early 90's! Back then I simply used crawfish style softbaits or straight-tailed worms that were kind of torn off around the area where the large offset hooks had opened up a big hole in my soft baits and so in order to get more uses for these baits I simply rigged them up with a regular ball-head jighead. I guess since what I did wasn't shown on TV shows nobody knew there are probably hundreds of guys like me who have discovered this type of fishing well before those professional fishermen started using it and claiming it as their "invention!"

What a fantastic job. The video was great I picked up an a ned jig about 4 years ago because it looked funny at the bait store, it set in my tackle box almost a year before I decided to use it . It has increased my fishing intake 75%. easily out fishes most anglers on side of me because they don't understand it yet you showed all the techniques that I came to learn the hop hop hop, the hop hop and glide, and the slow swim technique. I mainly started using these baits for Crappie but Bass will jump on the bait five to one when fishing for Crappie. These techniques have caught every fish under the sun, large catfish, giant Bass, hundreds of crappie including a park record, and a 10.7 lb bowfin. You covered every field perfectly sadly it took me 4 years to learn all this information but you definitely covered all the angles perfectly. I am a bank fisherman and love fishing the shallows, large and small ponds and Park ponds. so the technique is super excellent.

I've recently started fishing about 2-3 months ago. Once I discovered the ned rig I instantly started outfishing everyone from the bank in ponds, lakes and rivers. My PB Bass is 6.5 lbs and I've caught up to 12 fish in one outing. I noticed right away it is not very scalable for really snaggy or weedy areas. I recently started putting my TRD lures on weedless and I've started saving a lot of money on jigheads.

I'm 65, live in the Puget Sound and for some reason I never got into bass fishing but my grandson and I are tired of the lull between trout and salmon season and saltwater kayak fishing can be a bit wild even on good days in the summer so we have been expanding our fishing opportunities to include Bass, crappie and yellow perch. I, for one, enjoy in-depth videos for the educational value and if things get too slow there's always the FF button. Great video and thanks from a new sub.

Much appreciate the video. Didn’t even have a bite almost a month now, started a skirted Ned rig ( mostly fish at night , family convenience) and have had the best two weeks of the season. Not necessarily huge fish but including my Pb walleye and smallmouth, majority rock bass but assuming that’s the body of water. Top drawer video brother. I started using the ned rig on UK canals just out of interest to see if it worked, it did oh boy it did. With the over hanging trees it resembles slugs and all manner of critters that drop into the food chain. It's scores me big Perch and Chub, also the occasional Pike (hence wire trace). I say if you want to learn the Ned then fish it until you learn its strengths and weaknesses. Experiment as well such as using a Ned on a Tokyo rig to keep it above silt.

those new ZMan TRD CrawZ have some nice floating pincers. good insight on flexible versus stiff hooks. I use the NedLockZ (stiff hook) in the marsh for finessin them redfish but now I know if im working a rock jetty I should probably switch to a more flexy hook to loose less gear,

Ever heard of Slider Fishing? Slider fishing has been around since the 1960’s. Kedhe as a newspaperman noticed some others fishing in the shallow lakes in Oklahoma with small 3-4” cut down 6” Creme Scoundrel worms. The Slider was developed for fishing 8n the deep TVA lakes of The Mid-South, very much like California. Charlie Brewer was one of the first people who designed lures got suspended bass and wrote about the technique. BTW, he wrote a book about fishing this type of lure, with these tactics. First published in the 1970’s. Good video, excellent explanations of techniques.

I would love to see a video explaining matching a rod to a bait (like how the rod action can prevent losing fish) i have a couple rods but i kind of just randomly throw baits on them, id love to know which actions are better matched with different baits so i can put more fish in the boat. I have a nearly 40 year old fishing book from the 80's that suggests throwing a shortened and split floating trick worm on a mushroom head during a cold front. Ned rigs are just the packaging of an idea that has been around for a very long time. So many "innovations" are just companies making specific products for things that savvy anglers were already doing by modifying existing tackle. Many smallmouth anglers in particular have been throwing Ned rigs since finesse soft plastics and standup/mushroom jigheads existed. They just didn't call them that. The stretchier, tougher plastics that happen to float were first popularized for Texas and Carolina rigging. It's not that big of a jump to stick one on a jighead. I used to do it with just the tails from lizards and beat the tar out of picky fish in small heavily pressured waters. I'd use a slider head in weeds and timber and a standard open hook jighead in clear rocky streams. *Insert Pink Floyd's "Money" here*

Great vid. I’m getting back into fishing after a while off. Kept hearing about this “Ned rig”, and remembered doing this in the early 90’s. Of course we never called it this, and it still seems weird to call this a “Ned rig”. We just called it a plastic on a jig head. I don’t know who Ned is. My brother was the one that showed me this technique decades ago. No offense to Ned, but I would find it odd to name an old technique after myself.

The guy that made it famous fishing torneys in mid west early 70' was names Ned Kahne. HE didn't name it that, it worked so good, the other fishermen in torneys started calling it the Ned rig

The variability of a ned rig is amazing. I'll go from crawling it to throwing it as a finesse jerk/searchbait going down a bank. I always have a baitfish color stick and a natural greenish creature tied on.

Theres a stream i fish that connects two different lakes. There's a bridge on it that I fish for bass, and let me tell ya, when they don't want the nightcrawler, they absolutely clap the ned rig. Especially smallmouth, which aren't something i would often catch there. Now, i catch lots of smallmouth and largemouth whenever i visit that bridge, because that ned rig just drives them crazy!

Been using this technique since the 90s but never have a name for it. Using 2-4 inch plastic to fish bass can catch everything in the water. I agreed with you that Ned made this style of fishing popular. The TRD ned rig won’t work for my style of fishing especially here in Northern California.

Yesterday in a tournament on our river that was drawn down three feet I caught a 4.36 smallie on a Ned rig. I used a red 1/16 head with a trd in yoga pants color just drifting with the current. Got second place and big bass.
