Carp fishing is awesome. I only do it a few weeks in the spring before I get into saltwater fishing. Good video you did. I've caught carp up to 30 lbs and lost a couple up to 60lbs and consider them to be an awesome sport fish. A person should never kill a fish they won't eat. A common carp produces around 300,000 eggs per spawn, yet the populations seldom change. All those little babies provide food for bream, bass, crappie, etc.

I never go weightless. My local river (st. Joe river) in northern Indiana had MONSTER carp!!! I've noticed that if I use 1/2oz or 3/4oz tear drop sinker, they do detect the weight, but never drop the corn.. they just bolt off QUICK! which in turn, hook themselves.

Very informative Video as are all you produce. Thanks! In Europe, carp grow up to 35 kilos / 77 lbs. Nobody ever keeps them: strictly no kill. But carp are considered great gamefish. Pound for pound, they'll give you the best fight you can expect. A piece of advice, when waiting for a bite, keep your break loose: the fish won't feel le weight of the line and won't spit the bait out. Then you tighten your drag as you pick up your rod. You can also catch carp on a fly rod!

I think he is using the treble so there are more chances for the fish to hook itself when it sucks the bait up and then tries to spit it back out. A super super sharp size #10 treble is killer on carp, but you have to be very mindful of your rods so the fish don't swallow it. Those little trebles are so sticky sharp that they will hook the fish when he sucks up the bait, so usually no gut hooked fish.. but always a chance if you come across a really hungry dumb one.

a quick tip if you are fishing in very heavy thick weeds that engulf the rest of the water, just either find a clearing or if you can't use heavy weights with slack line and a light or floating bait if possible so that the Carp can still find it within the grass because since the line is slacked your bait floats freely and the carp won't feel the weight instead it will just take out line. Also a good bait to use is a mix of jello and drained corn mixed with panko or cubed bread and crushed kix cereal

Love your channel and every single technique you share with us boss and i would like to thank you for that. Just one question.. Why do you say carp has a bad taste? Carp is eating everywhere around the world as a excellent plate and i have seen that only the U.S. don't eat them. There is many ways to cook them specialty in Europe is a very delicate dish even a traditional Christmas food as well. Yes it's true they are the master of carp fishing but is also a good eaten dish if it's cook properly. I as a personal experience can recomend smoked as the best so far i have taste.. Thumbs up and keep the great work that you have been doing boss.

TheSlightlyHomosexualFeminist thanks for the info. I wonder why the bad taste? If it would be some in their diet or something in the water or something. I remember as a kid at least I'm from Costa Rica and I cannot remember a bad carp taste. My family is from 2 different European countries and they as well said actually fried taste good. Of course there is other fish that taste better i guess is just like animal meat it depends on their diet it will be the taste of the meat I remember that a animal that feeds on fruits will taste 1000 times better than one that feeds on other animals... but thanks for the reply.

I have never found carp to be difficult to catch, or to be hook shy, or sinker shy. I have no clue how many carp I've caught, but the number would be pretty big. I've found the main thing is just putting out the right bait, and using the right size hook. I'd never use treble hooks for carp, and all you need on a number six hook is a single kernel of corn. In Europe, the hook is usually left bare, and the bait either goes on a hair rig, or above the hook in a bait holder. Like many other serious carp fisherman, I have my own favorite homemade dough ball that I keep secret.. You can also now buy boilies here, or you can make your own. Carp love sweets, too, and you can catch them using all sorts of candy. But my dough ball gives me the most bites, day in and day out. And carp are not strictly bottom feeders. They do bite on the bottom, but they also bite at every depth, and even on the surface. If you don't carp fish, you have no idea what you're missing.

Really enjoyable vid, just a suggestion, trebles anrt great for the carp's mouth and can cause tearing in the soft flesh. Where we fish in europe, is, like you mentioned, a completely different culture and style of fishing, but the target is the same species, and I'm aware that certain hook patterns can be quite damaging. Well done with that koi, lovely fish from such a small river. beauty!
@grammoore334810 жыл бұрын
i use a light weight rod and 6 pound test. I've caught carp up to 13 pounds but if the carp are any bigger id totally switch to a medium rod with 10lb test. make sure your drag is set correctly because they will take off. But my set up is pretty much like this but i use a small weight with a hole (so it stays at the bottom and when the carp take it they don't feel any weight since the line slides easily) and then swivel and then about 1 foot of 6 pound line (they don't see the line and if i get a snag it is easier to break) with regular size 6 hook. another method is the hollow weight then 3 way swivel with a foot of 6 lb test then the hook on each of the other swivels.

The thing about carp strategies is that a majority of carps are in ponds (or small lakes). And from a lot of experience with other types of fish in ponds: Pond fish are WEIRD. You can fish one pond very well with bait X and not catch a single thing in a pond right next to it with bait X. This is why there are so many preferred versions on what will or will not catch a certain fish.
