Nice work, Nick. One suggestion for those anglers who keep their fish to eat is to cut the gills to allow them to bleed out after bonking. You will be surprised at how much this will improve the quality of the meat.
@ronkeffer5 жыл бұрын
very True I bleed all my fish from Trout to Salmon and the meat is so much better

I had no idea about the fish finder colors! I always preferred the fish finders that show fish icons. Gets more excited!!😁

I have fished kokanee for 30 years, and this OLe boy knows what he is doing. one thing to add do not be afraid to be creative like all sockeye koke's get finicky EXPERIMENT speed up slow down, change colors change to pop gear, we have caught kokanee on everything you can imagine (even pop gear and a worm) make sure you pay attention to everything and then repeat if you want to keep catching.. the only risk you have a flaming gorge is Large mackinaw will snap an ultra lite koke rod like a twig, and we have found out the hard way, if your drag is not loose (as he suggests) and you hook up a large mac, just hope you have a spare..

Nick, this is one of the best video I have seen! Great job! Question, what about winter kokanee at lake berry? thinking to give it a shot on my hobie

I was surprised to see your leader was a foot long. I have always used a 3 foot leader from my flasher to my hoochie when fishing for Kok. Looks like you put a bend in your flashers. The slowest my 4 stroke 150 will troll is 8 MPH is that to fast for Kok? What weight rod do you recommend for Kok? Thanks I learned alot.
@micahgee11 жыл бұрын
8mph is way too fast! From everything I've read and heard, and this video states, go between 0.8 - 1.8 mph
@ryanschembri413910 жыл бұрын
Mark Abolofia you can try using divers like the deep six or a jet diver but you are only going to get down about 40 feet max so once you get into midsummer you can forget it if you can't fish where the fish are then you are wasting your time focus on the early season when the fish are up shallow generally between 20 and 40 feet

Awesome videos IF! Always tune in to get tips before I head out onto the water (even if it's a species I'm used to targeting). Quick question: does it matter how old the shoepeg corn is? I bought some yesterday and have it soaking in a jar with garlic, but am not going out until Saturday. Is this too soon? Or should I be OK? Thanks!

Bonedaddy500 if you want to pick up a sick kok setup I recommend the lamiglas gc792ul and a awesome reel to match it is the shimano Cardiff 100 I like to fill the spool with 10 lb pline cxx. But honestly the best way to learn the ropes is with a guide you get a full hands on demonstration

Great video Nick! I don't have a boat nor a downrigger. Any way I can kokanee fish out of my kayak? Thanks, be well and fish on! Mark
@the-mountainlife10 жыл бұрын
Mark, I don't know if your question ever got answered, but the answer is YES! In your youtube search bar, type in "Vertical jigging for Kokanee." This should give you a few ideas. Hope that helps.

Mark Abolofia On my pontoon boat I set up a second rod holder and set up another rod cut off just above the first eye of the rod. I then use the cut off rod as a down rigger. Works great.

Serious question: have you ever gone for kokes on a fly rod with a streamer? I'm trying to figure out a way to pontoon or Uboat a reservoir with sinking line and a wicked streamer.
@robw21736 жыл бұрын
I know I'm a fee years late but, what type of boat and motor do you have. Trying to decide between a strictly bass boat or lake boat. I like to bass fish but also trout and KOK fish with Down riggers. Thanks
@michaelbrajkovich19996 жыл бұрын
Rob W look into something along the lines of a tracker pro guide. You may want something a little nicer and I’m sure they make it but it has a decent front platform and trolling motor, live well, we put downriggers and made a removable rack of rod holders in the back for sturgeon or bay fishing. I’d love a bad ass bass boat, but versatility is key

@ryanschembri413910 жыл бұрын
That's a fair opinion on the corn but I like using scents that appeal to the genetics of the fish generally I run saltwater scents from April to June brackish scents in July then by August I like to run scents that will irritate fish in to striking like garlic because of the fact that the kokanee are in a territorial mode and they will slap at something out of anger. Also I think picking up speed by time of day and then slowing back down around 11 and picking up speed as the year progresses starting at 1.3 in spring and ending the year fishing at 1.6 to 2.2
