Watched this video weeks ago and Benedetta finally got shown tonight at Glasgow Film Festival and my god what utterly camp insanity I LOVED IT. Seeing it in a near-packed cinema made it all the better too.

I had not heard of Benedetta before this. Good to hear that Verhoeven is back on his game!

I had only heard of it due to Charlotte Rampling's role it then figured out that Verhoeven was involved second, but yeah Verhoeven is a great director.

Thank you for giving time and praise to TITANE, a film I thought I was the only human who had seen and loved, unapologetically and fully upon first viewing. Blew me away.

I'm really surprised that Pig was only your number 3, from the way you've been gushing about it I thought for sure it would be number 1. Benedette looks really, really interesting I wasn't even aware it existed!

If you didn't have Benedetta and Pig on here, I'd probably second guess the other recommendations you made just because of Titane.

I have to admit, I'm kind of surprised "Dune" wasn't on the list. I REALLY hope its not on the worst films list. It was without question the most breath taking, emotional and beautiful film I had seen in a very very long time.

Thus far I have only watched "Pig" of these, but "Titane" & "Benedetta" sound equally interesting. "Pig" might make a good double feature together with "Umami", as both films are culinary, identity and loss themed, both send a cook on a quest, but their two protagonists have very different personalities.

Madeline Sims-Fewer absolutely wins the MVP award for the year. Wrote, directed, and starred in one of the best movies of the year and one of the best horrors of the last several years.

Within the span of a week, I saw "Old" and "Pig", which both happened to costar Alex Wolff. "Old" really disappointed me, and failed to live up to its potential. Fortunately, "Pig" cleansed me completely, and reminded me of how incredibly talented Nicholas Cage is. I really hope that "Pig" gets nominated for a slew of awards this year! 😍

Honestly - if "Pig" isn't nominated for direction, actor, supporting actor and screenplay then somebody messed up

Oh wow! Seeing some kind of heaven on here sure was a surprise. Here in switzerland our state funded broadcaster made a documentary about this place and I walked away with the exact opposite sentiment for the people in the villages. The villages have boxes attached to their street lamps that (no joke) run Fox News all day. They buy out locals that have lived there for decades and the ones that don‘t sell get built around and literally fenced off. Mostly poor black people. Seeing black people leaving their fenced off church in the middle of the villages shocked me. Oh also they use copious amounts of groundwater and are destroying their own and surrounding land by doing so. And some residents even admitted on camera that they know that they‘re just escaping a shitty world instead of fixing it, but they don‘t care because they think they deserve to have fun. In the end, when the documentary was done, I looked up the villages covid statistics and was delighted to see that 37 thousand of their 150 thousand residents had died. Because the documentary genuinely made me hate them that much. I mean its rich old white boomers escaping from the world they helped ruin. I think its hard not to walk away and hate them. But hearing you say you felt empathy for these people peaked my interest. I‘m self aware enough to know that the hate I felt for them isn‘t a healthy human reaction, even if faced with immoral people. So yeah, I‘ll try to check it out. Maybe discover a more sympathetic side to the villages.

Not saying it's a bad film, but my problem with Violation was that the "event" was filmed very ambiguously, which leaves doubt when the guy claims he didn't commit SA. The fact the woman seemed to be emotionally unstable to begin with then plans out an incredibly complicated murder plot instead of informing the police or her husband/sister rubbed me the wrong way. I assumed he must have done it since they would never make a movie where he didn't do but was still brutally killed, but SA (especially ambiguous SA) is not my cup of tea though it seems to be trendy these days. The Duel does it too though it's way more obvious that it happened in that movie.
@dab882 жыл бұрын
if it happened the way Miriam remembered then everything Dylan did was an expertly crafted exercise in gaslighting. Which is odd considering the way it's portrayed - from her making the first move, to the seemingly sincere confrontation after the "event", to the recollection he gave of that night when they met up at his place for sex (despite us seeing the "event" occuring in the morning). Not that Dylan was a pleasant character with enough clues to make him look very creepy and manipulative- the supposed animal cruelty, lying and flirting. Miriam didn't seem like a good person either though - she tried to force herself on her partner, stole her sisters float on open water and calculated every step of an elaborate murder and body disposal. It was impossible to have sympathy for either of them. To hear In/Frame/Out extolling the movie and her felt absurd. Caleb was ultimately the only character I felt sorry for and he hardly had any screentime. I guess we're supposed to see the movie through Miriams eyes and any ambiguity is her having doubts about what happened or something? Which somewhat contrasts with her actions.
