I had my folks do the "impossible gift" wrap on my sweet 16 birthday. They handed to me for my 1 birthday gift I got that year. My birthday is a week after Xmas so y'all know that much of the time all my stuff gets lumped together by family. I refused to even try opening it. I just looked at it, sighed, told them thank you and set it aside to open my two cards from grandparents then ate some cake. My mom was shocked I wouldn't even try opening the gift. I asked her why bother? She'll just laugh at me throughout not being able to open it since they wouldn't let me have tools to try to open it with. (5 boxes inside each other, duct tape each layer with gift wrap over each box layer, zip ties over a few different layers and chained/plywood around the outside most layer, this was the 90s so not many photos). Apparently I "ruined" the fun. I never opened it myself. Dad finally got pissed off and tried opening it without tools until he found that it was impossible without them. I just gave them all the shittiest eye and left them to it. The gift? A watch with a note telling me I have two more years of free-loading before it's time for me to leave home. Yup. So funny. -_- They wonder why I don't feel much for my family as a whole. Made me just firm up by beliefs in being alone and no kids ever. I'm in my 40s, single and child-free.

So of course an AI generated response is going to look somewhat like the text it took from. And when you ask people to do an essay, you're almost guaranteed to ask them to do it extremely formally and carefully formatted... which is exactly what AI will do. Schools basically ask you to do exactly what an AI does, but manually, and then wonder why it seems similar to an AI.

I have the opposite problem where my phone has set an alarm specifically for 7:40am for whatever reason and it WON'T get rid. Every morning I wake up to turn it off and disable it yet I'll get a notification in the night telling me my alarm will go off at 7:40am the next day so I disable it a 2nd time - each time without fail it still goes off every morning though. I've tried deleting it over and over yet each night I get the same notification that the alarm has suddenly returned from the abyss to go off at 7:40am. The thing that's most frustrating about AI is you ask any skilled artist, coder, etc about where they got their influence and ideas from, and they'll give you a damn list. Like, there was a trend back near 2020 of long time Ytubers talking about how to get into making videos and who influenced them, and their lists were like... dozens. AI literally does not do that, but COULD NOT function at all without real people making the stuff it uses. There is no situation where using it for anything outside of exclusively private use is okay, seriously. (just to be clear, by 'private' I mean by the individual for their own use, not 'unseen'.)

This was back when “all assignments must be in cursive or they will not be graded” was a thing. That is a direct quote from one of my teachers on the first day of my sophomore year. That very same teacher lasted all of two weeks before pulling me aside before class and telling me to print all of my assignments because she couldn’t read my cursive. Thank you for pointing out to peel first. If you freeze black bananas and thaw them, everything inside is mush and you end up having to scoop out the inside. I had that happen to me with my Nokia Lumia 520 when I was in middle school. You weren't allowed to use your phone at all in school and you actually had to turn it off upon entering. Ok, so about gear shifts. I work as an Amazon delivery driver, and they have 3 or 4 different kinds of cans that they use, and they all have slightly different gear shift setups. My least favorite by far has the shifter on the right side of the steering wheel opposite the turn signal switch. You might think this is fairly standard for a lot of larger vehicles, but here's where it gets weird: it's not the kind where you have to like pull on it and actually shift it to the gear that you want; it's all digital, almost like the turn signal, except it doesn't stay in the up or down position like the turn signal. So tap up to reserve, light tap down for neutral, hard tap down for drive. How do you put in in park? A little button on the end of the switch. Oh, and as an added bonus, the parking break is a little push/pull button thingy (think like a window button in most cars) which would normally be fine, but it throws off my rhythm when delivering. We're supposed to put on the parking break at every stop, but my muscle memory is more used to the other vans where the gear shift is the knob kind in the center console next to the radio controls and the parking break is the standard pull lever on the other side of the driver seat, so one hand for gear shift one hand for parking break, quick, easy, out the door. But the button just throws that off entirely and shows me down and it's just annoying, especially when combined with the weird gear shift. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant about Amazon vans lol

Birmingport is located on the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River, and is a major shipping and receiving port for barge traffic. So, when the city voted to annex Birmingport, according to Alabama law, they had to create the odd tentacle of city limits to touch back to the existing city limits. Believe it or not, California has a similar law in place, and has produced equally weird city limits. Los Angeles has a number of similar situations that take place, again, along port and shipping areas.
