What size leader were you drifting those woolies with 6x tippet? I assume something tapered down to 5?
@TravelsAndMore
@TravelsAndMore Жыл бұрын
6X is roughly 3.5lb. I run a tapered leader down to about 6lb then have a tippet ring which I attach my 6X tippet. I hope this helps.

I’m so scared to go down that low on tippet but damn I guess with a little patience you can drag in some really nice fish. Just hate when they break off. Great vid!!

I was just there on Wednesday and was also dead drifting wooly buggers. I was getting most of them on a brown size 10 with orange rubber legs and a copper tungsten bead. I landed several in the 15-18" range and a few smaller ones. I had a really big one take me into a weed bed and come off. I'll be going back looking for that one soon.

Thanks for all the great videos about Pueblo Res fishing and Arkansas tail waters. My husband and I are going tomorrow. Where were you in this video? (if you don't mind me asking) Or what exit to take to get near... Any info appreciated. Or if you want to meet up with us, that would be fun.

Unfortunately that evil work doesn’t allow me to fish all the time, but this was just up from Valco. They keep adjusting the levels and have raised it up since but just lowered back down again so should be good.

Epic Vid. I got Skunked back in Feb. on the Tailwaters, even though I saw probably 200 16-20 inch fish, they just didn't want what I had? This Video definitely has me wanting to try Pueblo again though. Any recommendations for "Five must have Flies for the Tailwaters"?

The tailwaters are known to be a winter fishery, not because it fishes best in the winter, but because it's one of the few places you can fly fish in the dead of winter and have a chance at catching something. In my opinion Feb is the toughest month to hook up on the tailwaters. The water is gin clean and ice cold, so the fish are super docile. The fish have also been fished hard by then so they are super educated, so everything has got to be spot on to have success. In my opinion the best time to fish is about 2 weeks from now until about December. In regard to flies, as you can see, I was throwing buggers as the water color was off and high, but once the water clears up and comes down more then surface action will really pick up. Flies like sz 18 parachute adams, tricos, small griffins gnats and caddis when you see them coming off too. But the vast majority of my fish come off of sz 20-24 emergers greased up to fish on the surface when they are feeding up top or deeper down when they aren't. And my favorite color for anything on the Ark is dark olive. But definitely fish it more, once you get it figured out it is an incredible fishery.

Would you be willing to meet up on the water someday? Just moved to Colorado Springs and need some fly fishing guidance!
@TravelsAndMore

If you’re newer to fly fishing I would strongly suggest a good guide. They can help you with proper technique and how to read the water. Im hoping to do some meet ups out on the water sometime but a lot of my fishing here locally is just spur of the moment, when the wife gets frustrated with me and tells me “just go fishing”, lol.

If you wanna learn fly fishing Pueblo tailwaters is hard to beat. Any cheap rod will do, reels can be even cheaper as they just hold line really.
