When it's in reverse, there is only one power level on the IR. The power dial only controls the forward power. When it's in reverse the air doesn't even go through the dial, but a different channel. I bet the shorter anvil version of the IR would have more torque than the long anvil version.

+South Main Auto Repair I believe that you're the only man on earth that thinks LOUDER is better. I sent you the TOPTUL gun because I couldn't stand how loud it is and you love it. The only reason you prefer the I-R is that they are earsplittingly loud. The Nitrocat/MAC is a little bigger, true, but it's quiet. That to me is an overwhelming advantage.

I prefer the separate power and direction controls on the IR because I want to set my power ratings only once. I want all the power in reverse for nut busting but the lowest power in forward for snugging bolts down. From there, out comes the Snappy. I don't care to torque nuts or bolts down with an impact. Even with torque sticks. I snug them with an impact only when convenient and there is no risk of cracking something. The direction buttons on the IR are most convenient for me and win hands down plus they make the tool foolproof for how I like to do stuff.

I have a Nitrocat 1200, its a freaking beast, I can break class 8 tractor lugnuts all day with it. The two of these are very close in comparison, but the price difference is dramatically different. Lot of Upset IR fans here.... but the truth of the matter is this. It really doesn’t matter which impact has the most torque, at the end of the day whatever busts loose the rusty bolt,nut, etc. is what counts. The difference in performance is so close the real winners here are us consumers.

I have a Matco gun now as I dropped the NitroCat off of a four post lift from about 8 feet in the air and cracked the casing. I really wish I'd waited to buy another 1250k instead of my Matco gun, not only because of price but performance as well. I could definitely see myself getting another NitroCat a few years from now as I just don't want to spend the money right now.

Just subscribed to your vids, love the reviews! I was a mechanic for 13 years until recently just giving it up to become an independent tool truck. One concern I think that come with the review of each tool is longevity and ease of repair (availability of parts) because we all know nothing last forever. Surprised the air cat comes out on top! I was always an IR guy, if I had seen this earlier may have swayed me the other way! Keep up the good work.

+Josh Swanson Thanks Josh! I agree....longevity and ease of repair is a huge plus (or minus) when it comes to tools, but I havent heard any consistent complaints with either of these so far. The other thing to keep in mind would be the ease of warranty.....both of these have 2yr warranties, but as you know --- some companies make that a LOT easier than others. It is definitely best to research as much as you can prior to investing in any tool......good luck with the new career! :)

I've had my Aircat 1150k for 6 years so far. Use it off and on and it's still solid. Sometimes sits in my garage over winter as well. I've broke loose Acura TL crank bolts with it. That's a guarantee win there. Just picked up a Aircat 1156-XL and it's a beauty... small and can get into so many areas where the 1150k can't... and still pack a 550ft lbs. They are designed very well and are very durable. I do have one question. Are you running high flow couplers and fittings? I do run swivel fittings for ease of use and to prolong the life on my lines. Do you think this will have a big impact on air flow and power loss?

RTR, Thank you for a very precise and analytical video. I love AvE as much as the next guy but sometimes my inner engineer wants test data, procedure, etc... So good work. My question is, have you tested the lower powers on the guns, meaning level 1 and 2, or levels 1,2, and 3 on the IR to see if the values you are getting match up to that of the manufactures published numbers? Also, have you tested the torque rated extension bars that are on the market to see how accurately they tighten a connection. Thanks again.

an average of 1193 to 1207. Well that is a very small of a gap (14ftlb or about .5% ), could well change considering the small variability of each individual unit. I assume both were oiled prior. My understanding is that the extended anvil is not supposed to reduce applied torque to the fastener like an extension would. Could it of had any impact on applied torque? Perhaps a 1/2 of 1% reduction in applied torque? I certainly do not know. Great reviews however!

@jasonhull21636 жыл бұрын
dat boi Uhhh yes... Extensions effect torque greatly. Especially if you are trying to pull a transmission out of a dump truck and tie two seperate extensions together. You can easly lose 35% torque that way. I have a 3 ft solid extension I use for dropping transmissions on big trucks. You still lose about 20% power on a single non tie extensions. You will not lose much power from a 3 inch extension, but you will lose some. I have had alot of air impacts. I still favor Ingersoll Rand over any brand. If I am not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong) I have a Matco 3/8 air impact. I believe Ingersoll Rand makes it. It looks identical to Ingersoll Rand and works the same, but cost more.

I liked your review, and I watched your video several different times trying do decide on which impact to buy between the Husky 800, Earthquake 1000 and the Ingersoll Rand 2235 TiMax. Another review showed the Harbor Freight Earthquake is stronger than the Home Depot Husky. Although you did not compare them directly, according to your videos, the Ingersoll is stronger than the Earthquake. According to your 2 different review on the 2235, you said it has 4 different torque setting in both forward and reverse. However, I just bought the 2235, and regardless of the reverse torque setting dial, it runs full blast in reverse. I did not know if I had a defective gun or what, so I went back to the questions and answers on Amazon. They said there are 4 torque settings in forward, but you cannot change the reverse torque. Is your 2" anvil different than the standard gun? If not, how could you review the 2235 twice and not know that you cannot change the reverse setting? I would be very interested to know the answer. I have been a subscriber to your channel for a few months now. However, if you can not trust your reviews, I do not know if I would watch another one. I am not trying to be mean. I am just trying to understand how you could of reviewed this item (more than once) and not try the torque settings on the impact wrench, which feature did comment on.

@G5Hohn6 жыл бұрын
You honestly think they run a separate test for the longer anvil model? An anvil is not infinitely stiff. Nothing is. That means that more metal between the actual impact mechanism at the fastener MUST cause some of the impact force to be diverted into deflecting (twisting) the anvil. This is because the of the impact mechanism. If you were talking a torque wrench, the anvil would be meaningless. But because of the irregularity of the applied torque, the anvil DOES matter. Now, does it matter? Probably not. It's short enough in most cases to not be a major factor. But if you want max torque, you use the short anvil-- and you use it with a short (not deep) socket for the same reason-- less torsional deflection.

It would be ideal if the nitrocat had a 2" extended anvil or vice versa. I would appreciate it and am sure others would too if you revisted this comparison with both impacts having the standard anvil or both with a 2" anvil. Hope my feedback is constructive, I just think it wasn't a right or fair comparison.

I'm not agree SR. You need to try the regular Ingersoll rand IR2235QTIMAX 1/2 ,, that one you using on this video has an extension,, you will lose torque with it. Even if some IR guns models come with it. You will lose some torque with any gun if u add a extension.

Thanks for the quick reply and kudos for the great review videos! Up in Canada the IR's are crazy expensive. I just picked up the cp7748 as it looks like a great starter.

+Paul Watson I would suggest watching the videos I made about Air Pressure & Torque vs Torque Loss.....you can do a couple minor upgrades to your air setup & get much better performance out of it.

Love your exhaustive reviews! Seriously aching to see an Earthquake XT against these!!

+indigophox thanks! And stay tuned....I've got the XTs coming soon....
@indigophox8 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The XT and the new compact Earthquake are right at the top of my list, as is the IR 35MAX. All things being equal I would take the 35MAX for ergonomics, but depending how it maxes out when it only claims 450ft-lbs it's probably not going to be my eventual pick. That little CP gun you reviewed in the "Stubby -vs- Stubby" review is also a decent candidate.

I just had to also state you used an extended anvil vs a short anvil. The short will always have more power. = un equal test
@RealToolReviews5 жыл бұрын
Check their own specs on them.....100% identical.
@AlexD-fq5zm3 жыл бұрын
The short anvil has less torsion applied by length of shaft. The long shaft has twist.

Is the 2235 the most powerful 1/2 inch impact?
@RealToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
It is "one of the most powerful"......I wouldn't say it will win all the time.....in this vid, the Nitrocat won.

I own the ingersoll rand and A snap on mg725. The snap on destroys it as far as power goes. They are both excellent tools but in my personal experience the snap I hits harder. Although I prefer the build and design of the rand. However if I can’t budge a stubborn nut I will always grab the snappy and it has never failed yet.

I notice you gave the SO number but not the IR that you were comparing it against.
@masonfamily61245 жыл бұрын
@@muddyriverdogz Yeah I always had Snap On guys borrowing my IR gun. My model number is worn off now but it was the first model of the titanium series. It's about 12 to 14 years old and was never rebuilt. Nothing came close until Aircat came out years later.

How did you find one with that grey color..? Thanks, Xai.
@RealToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
+Xai pai van Lee The impact wasnt grey....that was the protective boot (slips on/off to save the finish). Thanks!
@xaipaivanlee8 жыл бұрын
+Real Tool Reviews thanks, what type of add-on is yours? Just the 2inch anvil extension only right, because you said that the one with the quiet sound is less powerful. But they have a quiet with the 2inch anvil extension available. Is there a difference? Thank you again.
@RealToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
+Xai pai van Lee Yes, the quiet version also has a 2" option (model 2235Qtimax-2). The power levels are slightly less, but without a tester like the Skidmore, I dont think you would ever be able to notice a difference. The benefit of saving your hearing is much more appealing that being extremely loud with a few extra ft-lbs of power.

+Real Tool Reviews Yes that's true and thank you for your reply.

Ir is definitely stronger. Put a 2 inch extension on the nitrocat and it won't touch the ir

What the heck happened? I haven’t seen a Real Tool Review in over six months. Come on Mr. Dan! I R has put out their new W 7152 and now those bogus 5133 and 5153 brushless tools. I’m sure you would have a lot to say about these.
@DaBurntToaster Жыл бұрын
rubbers grips tend to fall off so Id say the IR wins here, but if you dont tend to get your tools dirty I guess the 5% more grip could be helpfulbutnotreallythisisanimpactgunitsnotgoingtomakeyourhandflyaroundinacircle no points here being an inch shorter, I dont think the IR takes a win there, its an impact gun, it doesnt go in tight places. no points here variable speed triggers dont really matter to much on air powered tools, especially impact guns, you use them mostly for removal, and when you install with them your working on something its not going to break to begin with. and if you really NEED to lower the power you should probably be using a torque wrench, but if your lazy or dont have one just turn down the compressor output pressure. no points here the torque values you got were from a single product at far less than a 1% variance which would be considered statistically insignificant so it means absolutely nothing, both guns with the setup you provided are EXACTLY the same torque, you will have ABSOLUTELY NO guaranteed increase in torque by choosing the nitrocat, product to product deviation on your test platform with the right binning could make either platform win, theres no conclusive answer here. that being said you are testing an extended anvil vs as short anvil so the test is moot to begin with. assuming the torque value isnt effected in the IR by the anvil length the ONLY differentiating factor for performance of the tool is the rubber grip on the nitrocat, which as stated before is hardly an advantage but could be REALLY annoying if it falls off. nitrocat loses 0.1 points here pick the one that looks cooler

You should use the same length anvil version in compare to air cat type tools.longer anvil version torque will be lower.
