Hmm, this is a nit pick but. Dawn should have used her Japanese name in the past. Unless there already is a NPC named Hikari then it's fine. It's just the protagonist is in the past, so whatever their given name is they should make one in the past. Because it'll effect history. Unless it dosn't matter what so ever then, do whatever makes you happy. Time travel can be tricky.

If it’s the player character then it’s Dawn/Lucas, if it’s the player’s counterpart who is native to that era then it’s Akari/Ren.

It’s also kinda strange that the English version of the game localized Akari and Rei from different Japanese names. Like, the Japanese version uses two different names for the mcs, but the English version- for some reason- changed the Japanese names into… different Japanese names. It’s weird. Edit: like I understand localizing Kudari to Emmet or Kamitsure to Elesa, but why did they localize Shou and Teru to Akari and Rei? It’s strange to me.

Well to be fair there are NPCs that have non Japanese names. And some of the buildings and clothes are not Japanese either. You could just play it off as foreigners (Gaijin) who traveled to Hisui and decided to settle. You could say they traveled by ship or Pokémon.
