Goalie Glove Breaks - 580, 590, 600 - What's the Difference?

Күн бұрын

Goalie gloves from CCM and True come in three different models, the 580, 590 and 600. Each has a slightly different "break" or closure, and a slightly different pocket orientation as well. Most major manufacturers have roughly equivalent models (with their own differences) - with the exception of the 580.
If you've ever wondered what the differences are - this is the video for you. Not only will Woody and Cam, ahemm, break it down for you, they'll tell you what model from which company might be the one you are looking for if you are in the market for a new glove.
For more ideas or if you have any more questions, you can reach out to Cam at The Hockey Shop Goal Department at 1-800-567-7790

The perfect breakdown of all the gloves on the market, I love it! Well done guys! I'm a huge 590 user, but am slowly being converted to a 580 via a guy that is wearing a very incognito 580 in pro hockey. My next set may just feature a 580 if at all possible.

As someone who works on hundreds of baseball gloves per year, I can add that guys who don't know how a baseball glove should fit will find the 600 easier, but if you are a better gloveman, you will always gravitate to the 580 which simulates a two in the pinkie grip. A good baseball glove closure will NEVER be index to thumb tip....it will be RING/Pinkie to the base of the thumb...which is a 580. I switched to 580 the minute I saw one....I could feel the correct closure. The ability to catch and place a puck/ball down to play it is so much easier without that long "nose" of a 600. The attitude of the glove at rest is, as you so well mentioned, is great for simply cutting off pucks in front of your body, which is quicker than the windmill idea which old 5500 always felt like. I use Montoya pro returns......both 580....

Great vid! My issue is I have small hands and wear an intermediate glove and customization in intermediate lines is rare. I’m 2 weeks into an intermediate Eflex 5.9 and nothing but pop outs. Coming from an intermediate Eflex 500 with a skate lace pocket. I assume both are 600 breaks? Prior to the Eflex I came from an intermediate RBK 8K glove that was probably my favorite glove I’ve ever used.

This is really good but any mention about the equilivent replacement palms for the Warrior series? Obviously the 90° palm is equilivent to the 580, am I right in thinking the 75° is the 'stock' 590 equilivent and then 60° would be the 600?

For years I've seen these 580/590/600 explainer videos and posts on TGN, etc. describe the 600 break as perfect "if you miss a lot of pucks toward the outer edge of the gloves" or "if you're accustomed to a first baseman's mitt." Is there a specific break that's commonly associated with the baseball catcher's mitt and/or perfect for goalies who suffer a lot of pop-outs from pucks hitting near the bottom of the trapper's break (i.e. on my palm about an inch inside the base of my pinkie/ring finger)? I realize my problem is user error to a large extent, but after 20+ years of B-level rec league hockey I don't think my timing is gonna improve that much more. I'm looking for a glove that gives me a bit of an edge the same way you described the 600 as helpful for people who miss pucks high and away. For reference, my gloves/breaks over the past 20 years have included a Brian's Outlaw, Vaughn Epic 8800, Vaughn V7XF, Vaughn 9500, CCM PII 590, CCM EF4 600, and most recently a pro return Vaughn VE8. Based on this video, I suspect NONE of these is like a 580, so maybe that's the one I need to try? Thanks in advance and congrats if you read this far.

Do the break angles have any relation to how easy a glove is to break in? I have a pair of Reebok Premier XLT 24s (glove and blocker) that was very difficult to break in. It probably is a 600 break, because I have to turn my index finger up and thumb out to get my glove to project forward.

I would say that the 580 is the easiest for me to close as it’s a mechanically stronger angle for your hand closure. You’re pulling all your fingers straight to your palm which is how the human hand is designed to close.

This past season it was impossible to find a glove with a 580 break for my son. Even went to far as to contact a shop in Japan with no luck. I would have to disagree. I think you have Brian's gloves flipped. I feel like the optik 2 is more of a 600 break and the gnetik5 closer to a 590 break. I've use a 590 glove since 2003/04 and I'd say the gnetik5 was a easier transition
@InGoalMedia

Well that was our experience but there' no doubt personal preference and how you wear the glove can make a difference in how you feel things.
