My favorite book of all time is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It's a creative non-fiction story about Henrietta Lacks, a black woman from the south who had cervical cancer in the 1950s. When she visited the doctor, they took her cells without her permission and ended up discovering that her cancer cells are literally immortal. The cell line is now called "HeLa" for Henrietta Lacks and they have been used to make huge discoveries and treatments for cancer. However, Henrietta and the Lacks family were never compensated at all from the financial gains made from her cells, so this is also a story about equality and consent in medicine. It's super fascinating and I think you would love it :)

I recently bought the book "the life-changing magic of not giving a f*ck: How to stop spending time you don't have with people you don't like doing things you don't want to do" and I love it. The title sounds a bit bad, but it's actually really inspiring and great for someone who just need to re-prioritize in life. For a person like myself who always put other before myself, being a good girl and who worked myself so close to falling apart just pleasing other people, this was actually life changing. She writes about doing what you want, need and love but without being an a-hole about it. It's also really funny, which just adds to why I think you would love it! PS. I really like the person you've become and I find it so inspriring. You seem so true to yourself, strong yet beautifully fragile. And I love that. That you allow yourself to be both strong and soft at the same time. You are a beautiful human.

I don't know that this book will be for you, but deep down I'm hoping it's a book for everyone. The title is "More Happy than Not", and I found it quite randomly on Goodreads going through pages and pages. I'd give you a brief description of the book but I'm not good at it at all so it's better for you to check online. All I can say is that this story really touched me. It grabbed me tighter and tighter as I was flipping the pages, it was an emotional roller coaster. The writing is on point and the author, Adam Silvera, is incredibly good at making you slowly care about the characters, even the ones in the background I'd say. I cried, I smiled, I FELT. There's quite a twist toward the middle of the book that just broke me. And I won't even start about the ending, but just know (for what it's worth), that I've never been more satisfied with one. That was my submission to this contest! Hope you'll give this book a chance, now or sometime in the future. I sincerely hope my English wasn't awful and I was understandable! Lots of good thoughts and encouragement from France! PS : here's the link to the Goodreads page of the book : www.goodreads.com/book/show/19542841-more-happy-than-not

Wait no! That's not my recommendation. My recommendation is Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. It's a graphic novel about a girl who discovers she's a lesbian right around the time her father commits suicide after living a life as a closeted homosexual. I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but it's also a Broadway musical right now. Very poignant and important. But not completely serious. It's definitely got some humor in it.

I personally loved • "Why not Me?" , "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?(and Other Concerns)" by Mindy Kaling, they are funny and sincere essays/autobiographies of an awesome celebrity; •Aziz Ansari's "Modern Romance" which is both educational and funny; •"A Tap On the Window" by Lindwood Barclay, which is a great thriller book; •"Binge" by Tyler Oakley, a series of essay/autobiography book; • "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, a shocking but beautiful fictional story; •Marie Lu's "Legend" trilogy (sci-fi); • "The Perfume" by Patrick Süskind, a classic which is disturbing but appealing. I honestly have a lot more, but I don't want to put all of them at once, these are the most recent ones I read. I must confess that I wouldn't personally have read The Perfume, The Kite Runner, or A Tap On the Window had I not read this in school, but I truly enjoyed them. I've had a passion, a love for reading ever since I was a child so discovering new genres and books is always intriguing.

Hi Ingrid! My book recommendation is Tuesday's With Morrie by Mitch Albom. This is by far one of my favourite novels! This is a story of Mitch's college professor that he was very connected with as a student and how that friendship slowly faded away through the years. He doesn't reconnected with Morrie (the prof) until he finds out that Morrie is going to pass away. So every Tuesday, Mitch comes over and visits Morrie and he learns so much. I love this story because even though the premise is quite sad, the message is something you'll keep with you forever.

I have two recommendations and both are books that I am currently reading. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden: beautifully written story about the journey of one of Japan's most celebrated geisha. Seriously can't put this book down. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson: Exploration of American history and how the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago played perfectly into the plan of murderer Dr. H.H. Holmes. It starts off a little slow because it has A LOT of architectural history behind the fair but gets really interested as the story develops and you get to peek inside the mind of a murderer.

I am not a huge fan of Tennis, but it was interesting to see how far family loyalty can affect one. Also, its quite unreal to know even do its not his choice he became one of the best in the world and an inspiration to others. If you read hope you enjoy it as much as I did, if not give it a chance. Thanks, for always putting your all in the channel.

The book I recommend to EVERYONE is "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. Its fiction, and a very quick read. But it follows this old man, who has just died, as his life is explained to him in "heaven". He meets five people who have affected his life in huge ways. Some of these people are people who were very important to him in life, and some are people he has never met, who did something that ended up changing his life. I LOVE the idea that everything you do, no matter how small, can have a huge impact on someone else's life, even if you or they don't know it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I have literally purchased over 12 copies of this book, because I will just give it to people and tell them to give it to someone else once they are done.

It's not very often that I fall in love with a book, and there are only five books out there right now that I actually crave rereading. This is one of them! It deals with female sexuality, and bisexuality & lesbianism in particular. Not only is it important to support female writers, I think that this might be of particular interest to you, as the main character is a young lady learning to own her own sexuality. (It also won the Lambda Literary Award in 2002. That's pretty awesome.) www.amazon.com/Pages-You-Novel-Sylvia-Brownrigg/dp/0312420048

A personal favorite is And Then There Were None, which is a classic mystery novel by Agatha Christie - it will keep you guessing! Another classic favorite is Anne of Green Gables, which is a quick, light-hearted summer read! If you're looking for a somber, but extremely moving and revolutionary piece, Tess of the d'Urbervilles is amazing!

Fresh balsam is my fave candle from Bath and Body Works! My favorite book that I've read recently is Room. The movie came out in September. I was afraid that it would be too harsh and gruesome but it is told from an interesting perspective which does not make it graphic or too intense!

one book i am loving at the moment is: the perks of being a wallflower. it is about a teen named charlie who is shy, introspective, intelligent, beyond his years, yet socially awkward. he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life, and trying to run from it. He writes about his day in letter form as if he is talking directly to you, and it is all set in the 90's. OR, if you are looking for more of a non-fiction, i would recommend: the power of habit ( it is all about phycology- how our minds work)

One of my favorite books is Full Tilt by Neal Schusterman. It's about an amusement park that comes to life. You have to make it through 6 rides by dawn or you're trapped as a worker there forever. And each ride comes to life in a different way and if you don't survive it you become part of the scenery of that ride.

Eat To Live! It's amazing it gives you so much reasoning on why to eat raw and from the earth. The author does an amazing job explaining his step by step process on starting a healthy lifestyle and how it works. I think there is a documentary as well that you can watch as a follow up!

Honestly The Help is my all-time favorite book. You have probably already read it, but even if you have I just wanted to share how much it means to me. I love how it shares such a real account of segregation in the south. The characters are so dynamic and I get in to it every time I read it.

I have just read a great book called For Freedom about a teenage opera singer in the midst of World war 2. When things get a little messy she has to take on a strange job that may take her life. She is finding herself and where her trust lies while trying to get her family into a better place with her singing and to avenge her best friend. I Definitely recommend!

My favourite book is called Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper. It's about this girl who can't control her body and is stuck in a wheelchair like 24/7. She can't speak or feed herself and she would have a few spasms sometimes. Everyone thinks that she isn't intellectually capable and treat her like she's not an actual human. However, through this book, she expresses how she understands everything that everyone says to her and she knows that she is looked down upon in her community. I love the book also because its language is very simple and it gets pretty emotional in the end. I have not found a better book since I've read this (5 years ago) and I think anyone would love this book XD love u Ingrid ❤️

"Girl, Interrupted" is one of my favorite books of all time. It was adapted into a film in 1999, which you might be familiar with. If you're not, the book was written as a memoir by Susanna Kaysen as she lived in mental hospital for two years (1967-1969). She describes her life before going there, when she was admitted at age 18, other patients, and any simple memories she chooses to include. As she describes these events, she reflects on her own insights of life, sanity, and society. Just reading it had provided me so much perspective, both into the past and into the parallel universe of the mentally ill. If you just find it in a bookstore or in a library, even simply reading the first chapter will change you.

My fave book of 2015 was All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. When you read the summary, it sounds like your typical high school rom-com but when you read it, you realise that that's not the case. It's an amazing book, really eye-opening and kinda life-changing..

My favorite book is definitely Flowers For Algernon because it is just awesome, the way it is written transports you into the world of the book and really empathize with the main character and I am going to be honest, I took this book to finish the last few pages at a play and was crying in the audience when I finished it. I got made fun of mercilessly but it was worth it- it is incredible! Also this is not what you usually read, from what you recommend to your audience so it might be a nice change of pace for you. It is kind of a psychology book but definitely has some sci-fi notes to it. Another book that I love is Go Set a Watchman (which you have probably heard of because it's freaking amazing) which is the sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird (also a fan freaking tastic read) and tells more on that story which is amazing. Happy belated birthday and happy reading! And you are welcome in Portland anytime, we're pretty chill here. Definitely come to the Rocky Horror Picture Show next time you're up here, it has been running at the Clinton Street Theatre since it premiered in 1975 and is freaking amazing. But come in costume because that is half the fun! Well I think I've written quite enough. Enjoy the rest of your day/night!

Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes is a fantastic read! I feel like saying a memoir is inspiring sounds a little cheesy, but it really was! It found me at a perfect time. Especially if you like any of her shows (Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder) it's really incredible to hear this impressive woman discuss how she had to deal with her own issues to enjoy her life and say "yes" to the world.

I would recommend two of my favorite books: "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" - a young adult novel by John Green and David Leviathan, which is this beautiful tale about how two guys named Will Grayson cross paths and change its each other's lives. It has this beautiful message about how everyone should be appreciated just for being themselves, and it portrays depression in a really realistic, and not overly dramatic, light. This is my personal fav, as i love all of the characters for their relatibility and depths along with the harmonious writing styles. "Furiously Happy" - a non-fiction book by Jenny Lawson, in which Jenny talks about her battle with anxiety and depression in her own hilarious way. Love you and happy belated birthday
