The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the office. The part of the toenail removed is not excessive or the entire nail, but only the part in the corner and underneath the skin. The healing time is about 2 weeks and there are no activity or shoe restrictions after the procedure.

I had this done a few months ago and it's healed up very nicely. It only happened because I had accidentally cut too much of the nail. I couldn't even stand on my tiptoes, it was so bad and if anything rubbed up against it, it made it that much more worse. Since the removal of that specific part of my toenail, the swelling went down almost immediately and soaking it in epsom salt did wonders.

I had this done and still to this day pull out regrowth portions of nail that grow in the corners. They don't hurt but once removed , even with proper cleaning the ache is killer

Having had those surgeries as a kid, I’m not getting them anymore! I am going to look for someone who uses the scalpel method! Way too painful and traumatizing!

awww im sorry to read this.,, i just go with my son that has autism and i tell the doctor i know this can be traumatizing him i need this to done by him sleeping so we need anesthesia so he can be sleeping when you do this. Thankfully they said Yes .. I hope you find better way to do it 🙏

It’s not cost and time efficient for the doctors to do that. They need to keep appointment time as low as possible to see as many patients in one day. It’s sad.

Many people do this as well as going to the pedicurist to do this for them. We joke with our patients about being 'bathroom surgeons'. Just got the procedure done yesterday 9/12/22 and Removed my bandaged to clean my toe so I actually didn't see how much nail was removed until today and honestly in kinda upset I feel like the doctor removed too much... almost half of my nail. I've had it done before but many years ago a I remember only getting a little bit of nail removed and not half of it like yesterday:(

Had this a few weeks ago, the nail kept regrowing after 2 surgeries the third is a mess. The doctor used a scalpel cut down into the flesh near the nuckle of the toe. To make sure the whole root is gone. This is the worst one iv had because it got infected then the tissue and skin ate away, nurses said its healing i decided to go to hospital and it turned out the tissue was dying. Also i wasnt on antibiotics which is weird. The hospital started treatment its been 3 weeks and the process is slow and being on antibiotics for so long definitely affected my body. I got like this big crater. The pain is worse than the ingrown itself!

If the matrix in the ingrown corner is arrested with phenol and the procedure is performed correctly, it should not come back. As for the shots, yes they are not fun nor painless.

Sorry mine grew back, number 15th surgical procedure yesterday my Podiatrist finally, used a chemical to kill the nerve at bed if the nail so, meaning it will not grow the hell back. I had bunion surgery hammer toe and the doctor removed the ingrown toenail while he was there. I tell y’all the darn needles 💉 in my toes are the pits. But, what Jesus went through was heartbreaking. So, I’m grateful that I’ve made it out and through all of the pain. Nothing can compare to our Saviors 😇where would I be without him. Thank you! Lord ! Depending on how bad it is. You can just get the corner cut. In the US they remove the whole nail, usually. I’ve had it done many times. It is extremely painful!

The issue is the skin not the nail unless the nail is growing abnormally I would actually go to a doctor if they wouldn't remove the skin not the nail. I can do the nail myself

Some Brazilian lady has a channel. She is a artist with ingrowns. I won’t get mine done. I’ll wait until I can save up money to go to Brazil or never get it done. It will be worth every penny. I don’t understand why American doctors butcher the toenail.

Acutally, you are wrong. But I did learn that when having background art, it may be misinterpreted. Meaning, the pictures are what NOT to do and you most likely did not watch the entire video which was really something shot at my desk quickly in regard to a request for an explanation without the graphics of the actual procedure. The toe is usually numb. You feel pressure. The whole thing just sucks. Check out The Toe Bro, on here. That’s what they do. Numb the toe on 2 sides. Put a tunicate on the toe and cut away.
