In case it's not obvious and anyone is wondering why it's so, the robots are given the answers to the maze while humans have to navigate them because this gives the robots time to read and memorize their behaviours while pretending to do the maze. Once things start it would totally give it away if you got caught peeking to remind yourself.

I was ready to get rid of this after playing it a few times and then seeing Vasel’s negative review... but there was a part of me that knew this was more RPG than proper board game so I likely wasn’t exploring it as deeply as I could in the ways I should’ve done. After watching this review, I moved it to my RPGs section and it feels much more appropriate there. I’d say don’t bother watching The Dice Tower review as Vasel approaches it as purely a board game and thus, might be missing the point? Brewster has done the game a massive credit with this video by understanding what it truly aims to be.
@aljozoql4459
@aljozoql4459 3 жыл бұрын
Iunno, the game is fun but Vasel does have some valid points. Playing as a human isn't that interesting (especially if you don't get a wacky job), meaning the game is great only half the time it's played. If the human role had more to work with (some hidden goal or secret backstory maybe) to force them to act more suspiciously, then the game would be great all of the time. Sure you could just roleplay that awkwardness in yourself but your only goal is to win/survive, so there's no real incentive to do that and risk the loss

Thank-you for talking about "The Cringe". It's one of the biggest stumbling blocks for many people to really get into gaming, especially RPG's. As people, we are always "playing" something - whether that's trying to be stoic during hard times or pretending to enjoy something when we don't. I wish people could get over their resistance to enjoying the experience of inhabiting a character and letting their imagination go.

This seems like a wholly amazing "minigame" to add to a normal RPG night when playing a game like Cyberpunk. Having this, instead of just rolling a few dice, to determine if someone is a robot in an investigative RPG about catching robots would really just amp the game up to 11. Bought right away.

"like trying to coax Tom Waits out of a dive bar" is a good line but reminds me of a story my friend told me years ago. He and his friends saw Tom Waits at an airport and argued who was going to approach him and what to say. Eventually my friend thought he had the best line so went up to him and said "from one drinker to another, it's great to meet you". Apparently Waits just snarled "I haven't drank in years" and walked off. I think he's been sober about 25 years.

I know someone who was in a restaurant in Santa Rosa, and saw Tom Waits dining at another table. When she left, she saw a beautiful, mint-condition 1957 Cadillac in the parking lot, a car that could only have been his. The sole piece of paper she had on her was a five-dollar bill. So she wrote THANKS! on the bill and left it under the windshield wiper. I like to believe things like that happen to him a lot.

So glad I Kickstarted this. I'm looking forward to playing it at party nights and at conventions since I think it really shines as a two-player party game where the silent audience gets to try and puzzle it out themselves. 5-minute rounds mean you're not out of the action yourself for long, and the ability to switch up who is investigating whom, etc. To me, this is the perfect compliment to a party weekend filled with other board games.

I would probably never actually buy this game because it's pretty outside my tastes but the effort that went into the theatrics of the set is amazing. The only thing to make it better would be hollowing out an old cassette recorder so that when you hit record, it spun the empty tape and started a countdown timer. That way you can start it off by going "do you mind if I record this interview?" and then click the tape on.
