I think there might have been a slightly-wrong rule in there. The first win condition you described as "There are six other clans in one region you control", whereas I think it is "There are six other clans present in all of the regions you control". The difference is that if I have control over 4 clans in one region and 2 in another, that fulfills this condition.

Of course you're right. Should have double checked the rules. That's how I was taught. Not really much of a game changer review wise. I'll correct it via annotation.

@@DriveThruReview It is actually a huge game changer and is often confused by many. It can lead to drawn out games and stalemate conditions. It's been three years and you have not annotated your video yet. Please do.

The more I play this game, the more I love it. Its becoming one of my favorites. So much tactics and strategy in a short time. Its like multi-player chess with layers only more fun.

This seems like a great system for an Amber themed game- the board tiles could show the pattern, the courts of chaos, etc, and the cards could be the trump cards for Corwin and company.

We have delayed distribution of the game here in the UK, which has allowed me to read some reviews of the game from across the pond that were experiencing some of that initial "don't know if i like this" feeling, which was talked about. But after this review, I'm confident in my purchase again. Good stuff.

It's very easy to fall in love with this game, ain't it. The unique art, simple play, yet deep strategic elements and very tight run time on any match is just spot on.

Joel, this is a great review!! Im late to the party, I finally may pick this up. Being this is a couple years older, do you think theres any other newer game that is similar (dudes on a map) but better than this since this?

Not sure it’s “better” but I’ve really enjoyed Lords of Hellas. It’s become my go to DoaM game.

Looks like the art style is based on Art Nouveau, which was popular around the turn of the last century.

And there's me thinking that Damien Hirst and Banksy style art were fashionable at the turn of the last century :P But yes more seriously they seem to have taken a page out of Alphonse Mucha's work. I bought my copy today in Spain (English version) and I'll take a good look at the art close up as theme not just mechanics is very important for my gaming group and pals.

The main critiques I heard were the randomness of the Epic Tale cards and the abruptness of the end game.

That's a good question. I'm not sure honestly. I would say you need to "try" this at the least.

this game is a glorified version of munchkin ... its so annoying every game to attack the leader over and over again ....
