Is there any standard when taking reading to maintain the how much gap between each needle and if cracks appear while pressing needle ,so what will be next needle place either at specific distance say25 mm or after the crack we take the distance

Why are we use six penetration needles of different dia at different time interval ? Why not using one single size penetration needles at different time interval just like setting time of cement ?
