Honestly, the Battle Gear series is quite underrated, it is a wonderful mix of arcade fun and sim-like challenge that incentives you to perform at your best to master it while still being interesting/fun to play. Personally I find it better gameplay wise than the likes of Initial D, and I agree it should be among the list of the best games of the arcade's golden age. Also the raw sound of the engines.

EDIT: Road Rage 3 is actually a localisation of Touge 3, not Youge MAX. i played tokyo road race and road rage 3 (battle gear and touge max localisation names) and i really didn't like road rage 3 road race howerver is great

Back then, this was where I first time played this in 2012, I remember was the 2nd installment of battle Gear, that was intense. As far as I know, this was the last installment of battle Gear and no home console ports. The ports for console were: 1) Side by side series (ps1) 2) Battle Gear 2 and battle Gear 3 (ps2) This series ended up becuz of initial d and wangan midnight

Well it wasn't in my TXR0 for some reason. I played that game religiously until a few weeks ago when my PS2 disk reader finally took a crap on me. All the years playing and just listening to the BMG's in game music menu I never heard a lyric version on TXR0.

Best arcade driving game ever!!! Love that it has a clutch pedal and that you actually have to brake for corners. Also, the speed per gear as well most of the mods are quite realistic - especially engine swaps. edit: the version with clutch pedal is the "Battle Gear 4 Tuned Pro" not this one, and it has Nagao (my fav touge) as well.

this version also has an option for clutch and nagao, but the manual transmission is bit buggy so i used automatic, you can still see nagao in course selection

@@gypyoutb yes, it's called the Battle Gear mode, if I'm not mistaken it's the 2nd menu on the main menu screen. There, you'll be asked to put your Nesica key if you managed to get a perfect copy of it. I didn't tho, so I used the key I found on some forum and fortunately, it worked.

I remember the time when I noticed that the tuned AE86 actually revs up to 11.000 rpm, but the dashboard in the cockpit view is stock which max out at 8.000 rpm, just like in the anime That little detail drove me crazy as a young kid at a random arcade. This game is so underrated but I love it so much

The manual trasmission is a bit buggy and often had issues where the shift just wouldn't register so I just go with automatic for now.

The cars stick to the asphalt a lot more than your average arcade racer, so it takes a little bit of practice to get the most out of your driving sessions.
