My philosophy is quite similar: I don't see the point of clipless pedals and bike specific shoes for a gravel bike, unless you are racing. There's so much freedom with flat pedals and normal shoes. I have a Marin too, a Gestalt 2 with GRX...good company, great bikes.

I was tempted to get this as I want a road bike but for gravel as well.... But there are not many gravel roads here in England

I hear you. I picked it up cause it can fill a multitude of roles for me personally.

I have the Gestalt X10, really wanted the XR, but it wasn't in stock at the time I ordered mine and it's a lot more money! The only thing I really don't like about the X10 so far is the brakes, they are kinda terrible. The slack geometry and wide bars are great though and coming from riding mountain bikes it feels natural.

Last year's XRs are on clearance. I am tempted although my original goal was to look for carbon bike with AXS.

It’s funny you say that, because I was almost sold on the X10, but I had a bad experience with a cable actuated brake. The stronger hyd brakes (and dropper) are what convinced me to just spend the extra money. I’m glad I did, because I don’t feel it needs any upgrades at this point.

I hear you. I looked and debated for a while before I caved and got a gravel bike.

Please can you measure the axle to crown for me? Thank you very much

How did you find the reach? I'm 180cm (5' 11") but don't like having to crank my neck due to neck pain. I prefer an upright position so wondered if this would be ok. Unfortunately only available online in Australia so I can't test ride

I found it ok for myself, but I can’t speak for anyone with back or neck issues. I always try to tell people to try it for yourself, but i understand if you can’t. You definitely have to lean further forward than a typical flat bar imo.
