Initial logging, new co-housing, Village Hill, Northampton, MA,9-'18

A new co-housing community is being built at Village Hill in Northampton, MA. Most of the logging on this 6-acre site took place during the weeks of September 10-21, 2018. The community will include 28 units. A 4,000-square-foot common house will be built at the center of the complex. It will include community gathering spaces, dining and cooking facilities, and an outdoor patio. Many neighbors have been sad to see all the trees, wildlife habitat and woodland walking trails be destroyed. But the Village Hill community recognizes the value of the co-housing vision and is ready to welcome the new neighbors. The city of Northampton Planning Board has been sensitive to the needs of abutters, and the developer, Sunwood Builders, has also been responsive. It's a complicated project, with many moving parts.
