I've been waiting so long to be able to check out this tent, and the day has finally arrived! So far, I am pretty pleased with the ease of setup and teardown...as soon as the footprint is available I will be putting this tent through its paces.

Love my tent. Was camping last weekend got caught in a pretty good thunderstorm, high winds rain everything. No leaks nothing got wet. Made it through. I would recommend this tent.

Whenever I go camping rain will happen at one point and that is normally setting up.The best one was my trip to Wyoming and told at a coffee shop it has not rained for months. As soon as we got to the campsite it started raining.

I have the Big Agnes Blacktail 2 Hotel. Since it's the non-Bikepacking version it weighs around 6.5 lbs (trail weight). Other than that the tent dimensions are the same. If you cant find the footprint for this tent, you can probably just use the non-Bikepacking version footprint. I love this tent and have used it in a variety of conditions. It has withstood 25mph winds, heavy rain, moderate snow, and tons of sunshine. Definitely worth the money and will last many years with proper maintenance and good care.

I'm researching my next tent and appreciated reading your comment. I've had my sights set on this tent but I couldn't justify the extra cost of the bikepacking version. For an extra $100 you get a different color, shorter poles, a handlebar bag, and about half a pound more in weight. I'm sure I'll be just as happy strapping the regular version somewhere.

The footprint that works for these are the normal blacktail 2 tents. I questioned this till I did some research myself. The only thing that doesn’t get the footprint is the hotel part, to which in my opinion is not needed. Great video!

Ive had my hotel 3 in cold weather. It w Has to much mesh, Nd to much under the hotel for a light cold breeze to pass threw the tent. , i bought an msr that is the same hotel design. Its vestibule goes al the way to the floor around the temt and the hotel section. It has a much lower ceiling. But I'd go with the msr for cooler nights or the eureka mountain pass for 3+/4 season camping.

Great Vid. Just bought the tent and footprint. REI had both in stock, and I got a $34. credit for future purchases. Interestingly Big Agnes had neither in stock. I think this will be a great setup for MC camping. Do you know if the stuff sacks are waterproof? You would think they would be if they are exposed on a bike. I’d also like to see you do a video of the complete breakdown, and how you got the tent back into the stuff sack.

Was it for the bikepack model? I know they made one for the non-bikepack model that was about $40 online from what I saw. When I called Big Agnes and asked about it, they said that the non-bikepack version would not work due to using different buckes. That being said, if you found one in stock that works I will be buying one ASAP. Thanks for the heads up!

Appreciate the review man! Question.. can you do without the 'hotel' extension if for whatever reason you're in a rush to pitch because of the rain or tight for space? Would it compromise the integrity of the tent if you don't pitch that section? Cheers
@twowheelvlog7233
@twowheelvlog7233 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. You could absolutely pitch it and stake it down on the corners and then just use the door on the opposite side of the hotel, but you will still have all of the material of the hotel just kinda hanging out there. It's doable, but not necessarily ideal.

Hello. I'm just curious, when you've only put up the main body (without the "hotel" section), did the fly completely cover it as it is not clear in the video? It would be good to know when the large vestibule is not needed (short/solo trip), if some weight could be saved. Thank you
@twowheelvlog7233
@twowheelvlog7233 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't gotten a chance to use this tent much to this point due to my work, but from what I recall, the hotel portion is integrated into the rest of the rain fly and cannot be removed. That being said, if you didn't want to use the hotel section, it would basically just have a lot of extra fabric hanging off of the side.

So I’ve been trying to decide between this tent, the Nemo Dragonfly Bike Pack 2, and the Nemo Dagger 2. I see the large vestibule on the BA as a huge selling point. So is it as practical as you anticipated? The Nemo Dragonfly is so damn compact though!!! Also, what about just using a tarp as a footprint. This way it could also be more heavy duty. I was thinking you can just fold the access under thee tent or cut it. Is it an issue with weight/performance?
@twowheelvlog7233
@twowheelvlog7233 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the scenario, the vestibule is wonderful. If I get caught in the rain, it is very nice to have that extra room so I don't feel quite as claustrophobic. That being said, I too am very interested in checking out the dragonfly bikepacking tent as all of my other tents are nemo. Hopefully once Pennsylvania weather makes up its mind and I can get a few days off I will take the blacktail hotel 2 out with the camera and do a proper video showing its usefulness.

Just recently purchased this and just received it today. I noticed that your stuff sack and stakes are completely different from what I got. I cant deny that I just bought mine for roughly $188.00 + $15.00 tax. Is mine the cheaper version? Because I was really eager to see if I bought THE BLACKTAIL 2 HOTEL and not just the blacktail which I did get the HOTEL version just minus the stuff sack and stakes. (They are just regular I guess)
