Thank you for the initial thoughts, I've been playing this one over the last few weeks on Vassal and we're finally coming to grips with the strategies for both sides. A very interesting design but really hard to get into due to a number of new concepts.

Great review, This game is awesome. We replayed multiple times and each game felt historical, but also had very different hot points. The battle mechanics are weird and take getting used to, but they work. The game aid is daunting, but it’s incredibly thorough and really does answer 90% of the questions. The one warning point is that both sides have historic strengths and weaknesses, so much like Twilight Struggle, the English have to be careful about aggressiveness early on.The card play system reminds me a bit of Gloomhaven, very interesting choices despite having a very small fixed deck that you’re drawing from. This is my new favorite wargame.

We have played Wilderness War from GMT, 1754 from Academy Games and that’s it. We have A Few Acres of Snow but haven’t played and Grant has played French & Indian War from Worthington solo.

How does this stack up, if comparable, to Caesar: Rome vs. Gaul, and how would you rank this in your top ten of 2020? I know it may be a tough to say after limited play, but its a tough decision for me between the two and appreciate your input.

I've had this one since it released but still haven't played it. I've been a bit intimidated to teach it for some reason, I think partly because the official player aid is so bad. I printed some helpful ones off BGG and I think I'll give it a go soon. I remember when reading the rules being unclear exactly when the single year campaign ends. You don't have to bother with winter quarters, do you? But I got the impression you played the short scenario here yet you talked about winter quarters being a thing.

Is there an option for the British to just not bother with the whole war after the vainglorious Washington started it and then promptly surrendered? Would be tempting to leave old Woodenteeth to stew in his own juices rather than having to bail the ingrate out 😁

What would have happened if George III had sailed across the Atlantic in 1775 and established a colonial legislature, inviting the members of the Continental Congress to join, along with prominent Loyalists, and also colonialists who had yet to decide which side they favored? King George could also have offered a truce between the British military forces and the Continental Army, granting Washington that Royal commision that he coveted. Such magnanimous actions of the monarch and his government could also have had the positive affects of producing peaceful relations between British subjects and the native tribes, and possibly helped to create the conditions for an early end to slavery on the North American continent.
