Heads up. The IC-T10 has finally started shipping and I have one, along with some accessories, on the way. It should be here by 10/19/22. I will need to fiddle with it for a bit to get an impression. But the initial hands-on review will drop very quickly. I'm looking forward to this one.

I recently bought a Yaesu VX-6 based on your endorsement. I absolutely love the radio and it has become my EDC. I attended Dayton Hamvention last week and I had a discussion with a rep from Yaesu who said he thought the VX-6 might not be in production much longer... His thoughts were maybe another year or possibly two. I hate to see that happen. I thought you might like to know this. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel. It has been very informative and I appreciate the way you present the facts. 73.

People scoffed at me when I bought the VX-6, but it does what I wanted a radio to do and I wish Yaesu would take that radio and just make dual display and possibly digital, but that's not a big deal. I keep wanting to order a second VX-6. I agree with you, the Icom should be cheaper

The VX 6 is a great radio. If Icom wants to sell more, they should lower the price.

@@miriamsmith7135 Yaesu should lower the price on the VX-6 battery's. I have seriously thought about buying a VX-6, but the cost of spare batteries has made me think twice. I like to have at least 3 spare batteries, which would cost more than the price of the radio. The batteries are simply not worth what they charge.
@tacticaladventure2 жыл бұрын
@@johnk23705 Agreed, but at least with the VX-6 you can charge it through the side of the radio. USB adapters are available to you can charge it off of pretty much any power bank. That's become my go-to solution.

Excellent video. I've just ordered one in the UK. I'm new to ham radio and just recently received my license. This is what I've been looking for. Rugged, functional and non-digital. I want to develop my skills in analogue radio as that is what continues to work when everything else has fallen down.Thanks for posting. By the way, it was your video that led me to the "add to cart" button! 73s, M7EBU

I am always open to looking at new products. But I also say use what works best for you. In my case I will admit that I am a YAESU fan boy. I love my VX-6 and my FT5D. They both give me what I want. I will also say and agree ICOM needs to do better with their pricing if they would like to see people give them a fair chance.
@Tism_me_timbers2 жыл бұрын
What would be your pick for "the best tactical" ht currently on the market? I feel I've outgrown baofengs and have been looking for an ht that: has the highest IP rating I can get, takes the largest battery I can get, doesn't mess with digital which I currently have no use for, and is also cost effective. I initially thought spec-wise that the T10 would be the ticket, but after watching this and your other videos it sounds like the FT-65 might be a better choice, especially in terms of cost and being able to buy a fleet of them. Your thoughts?
@philippinebiofuels2 жыл бұрын
WD0FFV here. IF stands for Intermediate frequency. this allows much tighter filtering, but has the problem of lets say your if is 350 mhz, you can "IF" 2 frequencies the intended frequency, and one above the if, the if by design should be in a frequency that is rarely used, and in wideband receivers, if the preselect frequency filter isn't deep enough, the receiver may see the Phantom, unintended frequency.

I assume that you bought the Icom IC-T10 by now. Have you compared the received audio of the Icom IC-T10 to the Yaesu FT-5DR or the received audio of the Icom IC-T10 to the Yaesu FT-65? I own the FT-5DR and the speaker is quite tiny, and the received audio is thin on the FT-5DR. The speaker on the Icom IC-T10 looks like it’s larger, and maybe the received audio quality is better than the Yaesu radios with the smaller speakers. What kind of stubby antenna is on your VX-6 that you had in your hand?
@stevenjones33562 жыл бұрын
So at that price and specs, its a close competitor to the Yeasu VX6. The VX has 220 too with more and is smaller.
@Sirjacobdegreat2 жыл бұрын
So its suppossed to compete with the ft 65 in terms of technology which is 90$, but it is above cost of the king of rugged being the vx6r which ahs the same ratings, and is heterodyne receive? What, either just buy a vx6r or ft65 depending on if you want to get a solid radio or a rugged and very solid radio.
@johnk237052 жыл бұрын
Looks like one tuff radio. For the $$$, it better to be. Myself, for the same outlay, the VX-6 with it's 3rd band and I would say same or better toughness would be the best deal. The FT-60 also outside of the water ingress standard. What can you say, you pay for the Icom name and reputation for being a solid radio. Almost indestructible, two bands and good battery capacity. Peace of mind and excellent reliability don't come cheap. Thanks for the no fluff review. Other channels take notice of the way Scott does his homework and unbiased reviews.

I've been looking hard at the ft-65r, but like you, I wish for a channel/vfo knob. Almost convinced me to step up to an ft-60, but now I'm looking at the Alinco dj-vx50t. Seems like Alinco doesn't get much love. With it being dual band, channel knob, ip67, allegedly easy to program from the key pad, and $99, it seems like a winner. Am I missing something? Thoughts?

I have a full review video on the Alinco DJ-VX50. It's a good radio that I like just as much as the FT-65. In some ways it's even better.
@michaelscafe2818 Жыл бұрын
@@KS6DAY Thanks for the reply. I found your review and watched it. The take away on the sour milk was lack of affordable programming cable, and lack of memory banks. I'm headed to rural Montana in the near future. I doubt I'd ever need more than a dozen or two memory channels, so I think the dj-vx50t is still in the running for me. I love how my old Yaesu ft-411 and ft-470 program with minimal keystrokes from the front panel. More research to follow on how the vx-50 compares in that regard. Thanks for your help!

Icom needs to watch this video. You nail all the points why this radio is not worth $260. Not with the $240 vx6 out on the market or a $90 ft65. I have an ID52 and can understand the premium on that radio, but not this basic little thing.

You lost me when you said the price. wowee. I’ll be looking forward to what you think about it. What are the battery specs? It looks like it has a large battery. 3000+mah. Look at the hump at the rear on that picture you showed. Maybe this “new normal” caused this radio to cost this much where yaesu already had theirs developed and supply chains established.

Great video. I have a Icom IC V86 and it's great but don't care for the price. You're price of $150 is very reasonable to me. I also have a FT 65 and FT 4X plus 2 Alinco DJ VX50 which I bought just for the price and do like them plus the other ones mentioned. I like you do like the channel knob on the top. I may get one sometime in the future but will have to save my money. The VX 6 you made mention of is a great radio. It is overpriced, but as someone who bought the VX-6 but really just wanted a quality waterproof radio I'm actually really interested in the IC-T10. Sure, it doesn't do half of what the VX-6 does, but most of that I really never cared about anyway so if the radio can just shut up and do it's job without me having to dive into the manual every time I want to do basic stuff then I'd call that a win. Having said that, the MSRP really should be closer to $180 with a lower street price. I'm guessing that this radio is going to languish until inflation brings the value of the US dollar down to the point where the price makes sense. Then again, that might not take long. Maybe that's what they were thinking with their pricing? I dunno.

IMHO the IC-T10 HT is borrowing the DNA of the IC-V88 a professional variant and the IC-V10MR a MURS variant and then they put an amateur UHF band in it and then they use a direct conversion receiver with better front end instead of the classic superheterodyne receiver. I wish they will sell it for under 120USD to be more justifiable. But then again the IC-T10 borrowed the DNA from the professional variants cousins that's why they bump the price high. Plus the brand name it makes.
