I well remember, during a miss-spent youth as an agricultural engineer in Mid Devon during the Mid 60’s repairing the vacuum/pressure pump of a GUA tanker belonging to a slaughterhouse in Winkleigh. The discharge was via a 2-meter long 6” diameter pipe that tapered down to 2” none as the elephants truck as it could manually be swivelled through 180 deg across the back of the tank allowing an outreach discharge of some 25 to 30 metres. The continence was discharge onto a disused wartime airfield. Being one who always tested my work onto the airfield with a full tank, we went. With the Elephant trunk, set at 45 deg pressure was built-up and discharge began, then nothing due to a blockage caused by a stub length of cows’ tail stuck neatly in the 2” section. Not wishing to pick around I took the decided to build the pressure until the safety valve blow then open the valve. By this time several crows had landed, when the valve was open there was quite a large explosive sound, which made most of the birds to take flight. Out went the offending stub followed by a hug fountain of the tanks contents. Two of the bird were a little slow on getting clearance to take off and were about 3 meter off the grown and in line with the fountain. Crows cannot fly with sudden wings, they trying to fly but had to settle for running away. Didn't see them much after that.........that was back in the days when working was fun whilst offending someone or being political correct had not been invented.

I am a, "COW TOURIST," in America, who spent a few years as a child visiting my Uncle's dairy farm in Wisconsin in the 1950s, which was probably the size of your dairy farm. So I will show up at a diary farm and PET THE COWS (and let the calves suckle on my thumb....LOL), and then I'm off (with several gallons of purchased milk or cheese), never knowing how hard all of you farmers must work to serve us dairy lovers in the general public. I never could have imagined how much work (and contractors, or farm machines) were necessary to get several fields prepared to grow what we call CORN in the USA. I just looked on Wikipedia, and apparently Maize is a Spanish name, as the Spanish found the natives growing it in Mexico and then exported it all over the world. I have just watched about 8 videos of all what you need to do to prepare and plant several fields, and I think most of us non-farmers are just amazed at the amount of work that all of you farmers have to do so to produce the food that we love. We all owe you a big THANK YOU, as I think these videos you make are funny, interesting, informative, and perfect for school children to watch, in order that they understand what you farmers must do to get the food and dairy to market.

Thanks for your kind words. Its interesting about the word maize. Here we use the word corn to give a general description for Wheat or Barley

In Minnesota I got out of my truck to get some delicious food from a truck plaza. a neighbor of the truck plaza obviously had some issues with the truck plaza and he had just Spread tons of hog manure on the fields surrounding the truck stop and I thought I might have a seizure or an asthmatic attack.

Well you are still able to use a splash plate on a slurry tank

Splash plates haven't been banned the injectors and dribble bars reduce the amount if nitrogen lost compared to the splash plate.

Yes its some slurry. Most of the muck we scrape out into a muck spreader

hi, I noticed u say how spreading the slurry is illegal well we are arable farmers so slurry and cattle aint our thing... but often when we are carting grain in the summer we see cattle men spreading instead of injecting it on large fields near houses (and the men use big kit too!) so I don't think it Is band.

one time the slurry pipe busted on me and all the slurry went all over me. I drove the tractor for a couple of hours in just my boots and underwear waiting for clothes to arrive

Thomas Adriaensen depends on your area I suppose! It's too expensive to own our kit.. as we would be looking at best part of 500k in order to keep up to the contractors speed of work..

+Thomas Adriaensen if you only have 25 cows to deal with you will have a lot more time on your hands. Ive got 140ish cattle to look after, theres no way i could run the business if i did everything myself
