"Diy" our mechanic pulled the motor and rebuilt it for us

@Duramax_Nate While the series is titled DIY Till I Die we fully admit that there are times when outside help is needed. We didn't want to pretend that we knew how to do everything ourselves. What we really want to portray a realistic version of what the average diesel enthusiast might run into when attempting to reach a HP goal like this. While it's not exactly a DIY guide to 600hp we still feel that getting outside help to accomplish your goal is in the spirit of doing it yourself.

Haha, as much of a rust bucket as thing thing is... some things just aren't worth doing 😂

Calibrated Power has been far more than helpful when I called them with some issues. I believe they went above and beyond to help me and they will surely get paid for it. I love that the men dug deep to figure out the science behind the Duramax and well as the other vehicles they are now working with. If you don’t want major headaches then just do it right the first time. Have a plan in place and stick with it

how do you adjust the valves the opposite way
@Duramaxtuner11 ай бұрын
@danielrlee97 When setting the valves we managed to mix up the exhaust and intake valves on the parts diagram.

Budget 600hp build is no place for a WC Fab powder coated high flow bundle $$$. You can make 600hp all day long without those parts. I’m liking the rest - can’t wait for the next one. 👍

@nono-fn3ze You're right we could have gone without the fancy powder coating but when in Rome right... Also, the stock intake was not supplying enough airflow to support 600hp so we had to upgrade it.

@@Duramaxtuner interesting. Lots for me to learn on the new-to-me lb7. My LMM went 685/1250 without any high flow kit (fuel and turbo but didn’t need more). I didn’t know the lb7 was so restrictive. Thanks

Sounded a bit like the valves were getting cozy with some pistons…..😬. Hopefully you didn’t….. but if valves were adjusted outta time by mistake there’s always that chance . Gotta pay attention to details .

@stephanmiller Not completely sure what the sound is yet but hopefully whatever it is you guys will be able to learn from our mistakes and not have make your own.🤞

Look out for the odd side rocker arm pads. My #7 decided to leave the chat. That’s what it sounded like but mine had to go through the S475.

Put a stethoscope on the valve covers. There maybe a completely different sound per valve cover.

@JeremyCricket Yikes... we will definitely check that out. Thanks for the tip!
