Have been making these with a slight bit of change. I added crushed walnuts, almonds and pistachio in the date paste and garnished with a bit of pistachio shavings too. Turned out AMAZING. PLUS, tried a different variation with only the dough by adding a teaspoon of salt to the dough with a tbsp of cumin seeds. Turned out better than the store bought ones.

Very nicely done. Well done. 👊 When cutting long strips, an easy way to do it is by just cutting the long strip in half and then cut the half pieces in half again, and so forth. Time saver.

To help you guys : for those asking about dates paste, if you live in a country and you can just find dates you can make it yourself, all you need is to own dates soft dates, hard dates can't be kneaded, then remove the pits and knead them very well, you can conserve them for a longer time in the refrigerator, leave it at room temperature before using out of the fridge. A note about the sugar used in this recipe, for those who don't eat white granulated sugar, you can substitute it with homemade dates sugar (dry dates are best for making dates sugar, cut them to small pieces, dry them out under the sun or in the oven for a few hours at lower temperature, if needed repeat it several times to fully dry them, but always leave them to completely cool down inside the oven until they can crack easily, then grind them to make a powder) 1/2 cup dates sugar is perfect for this recipe as my homemade dates sugar turned out to be less sweeter than granulated white sugar and perfect combined with dates paste inside.

I made these the other day.. I'm glad I didn't listen to most of the sugar comments that made it sound like it's a crazy amount of sugar.. Half cup is okay for two cups of flour and the butter.. All I did was reduce 2 tablespoons of sugar.. That was just enough.. The dates are sweet but you can't pair that with cookie dough that has no sugar, or very less. It won't balance it out. It's a cookie, it's supposed to be on the sweeter side. I'm not a sweet tooth as such, but this worked okay for me and everyone else who had them.

Hello! Thank you for the recipe. I've made them twice now using your recipe. Whole family enjoyed them. However, both times I needed extra flour otherwise dough was too wet. Also dates alone was a bit too sweet for my family, so second time around I used dates, small amount of tamarind paste and dark chocolate. Tamarind and dates are a classic combo in India. The proportion I used was 1/2 cup butter =113gm to around 300gm flour. And next time I tried 100gm of butter and 270gm of flour. Typically I understand 1 cup of flour=120gm Would really appreciate if you share how much flour you are using in grams. Thanks 👍
@naturallight47453 жыл бұрын
The dough is *TOO OILY.* The U.S. measuring system (The Imperial System) is, at best, a *GAMBLE.* *The Metric System:* Grams, kilos, millilitres, litres, millimetres, metres, kilometres are *ALIEN* to America. *METRIC SYSTEM = ABSOLUTE PRECISION* Date\sugar comby = too sweet Date\tamarind seems to fit. Thx for the tip. :-)
