As a resident of Salem Massachusetts I desperately need to recommend you look into the 13 custom shops within our city limits! Every single specialty you can imagine at the highest level possible! I believe around 6 former Ink Master contestants call Salem home currently. I’m halfway through getting tattooed at every shop but some of the waiting lists are like two years out because of the fame lol

I got tattooed by Christian Buckingham during his time on Ink Master. Despite his tough guy image in the show, he was a really nice and humble guy. I was always rooting for him while he was on Ink Master and poor guy went to 3 finals and never got that win

My favourite inkmaster contestant is also Kelly Doty, but i really loved Sarah Miller's art as well. I think she got a kind of bad edit in her season and was sort of villainized for being a strong assertive woman. It's often hard to get by in such a male dominated field without being a bit abrasive, so I think she's badass. I'm hoping to get tattoos from both those ladies at some point in the future!

The early seasons of Ink Master are basically a case study in men rebranding anger as not being an emotion. Tattooing is an occupation that tends to attract people who might struggle in more "traditional" jobs (people with criminal records, substance abuse issues, mental illnesses) aka a bunch of people who largely haven't been given the tools to deal with stress in non-destructive ways. Then you cast them on a shoe to have their art and skill publicly criticized while being extremely sleep deprived - recipe for a breakdown. I binged the series in the early days of COVID and you could tell there was a change in the filming schedule over time that reduced the sleep deprivation (mainly, they all seemed more relaxed and less exhausted going into the 6-hour elimination canvases) - it happens soon after Kyle Dunbar's 2nd season when he tries to fight Chris Nunez. Likely bc the judges probably weren't keen on being physically threatened by contestants. All that to say - I think Sarah Miller's "crazy" depiction had way more to do with gender stereotypes than her really being much worse than the many guys who had ridiculous freak outs. She just did it with more tears and less physical aggression than the male contestants so she was "crazy". Also, Dave Navarro OBVIOUSLY wanting to f*ck her on her first season's reunion was so uncomfortable to watch.

That season of inkmaster edited everyone so horribly. It made a bunch of the artists incredibly grating and it was so obviously fake drama. The editors were trying to make all the artists out to be tough biker gang people when some of the goofiest dorks I’ve ever met were tattoo artists

My friend was working at Hellheim when Steve Buscemi came by. They knew he would be in town filming the Adam Sandler Halloween movie and they put up flyers all around Salem with his picture begging him to come by the shop and he did! It was so hilarious! They called him in!!!! Lol

I only watched the first 2, maybe 3 seasons of Ink Master so I mainly recall Sarah Miller & Tatu Baby. I was really rooting for Sarah back then & I recently came across her IG where her work is amazing. I’ve seen clips of Kelly & I’m not surprised she’s someone fans enjoyed watching plus her work I’ve seen on her IG is also really great.

I got to university in Salem, and my artist (Nicholas) works at Jimmy's shop: Northstreet Tattoo. Haven't been able to meet Jimmy but I'm sure I'll run into him at some point while I'm at the shop. Great video!
