Quick theory on the inkataion's power Inklings are emotionally stimulated by music, thus why its such a large part of their culture, much like humans are. The theory goes, due to how similar octolings and inklings are ocolings are very susceptible to some kinds of music. An example can be octarian music, not complete mind control people would notice that, but subtly influencing them to think a certain way. (similar to the master in Doctor who) The theory goes that the inkantation can invoke such a powerful emotional response in a subjects brain that it leaves them in a vulnerable state, in such a state they are easily influenced by their surroundings. The idea goes that the inkantation opens their mind, its what they see next which defines who they will be.

Wow...First of all, I'm really excited for upcoming episodes. That really sounded like an official audio book! The sound effects, the music and your clear and relaxed voice...really breathtaking! What Marina said near the end with 4... I'm now curious, if an Octoling heard Calamari Inkantation, BUT chose to remain with the Octarion Military would that Octoling be an even greater threat to the Squidbeak Splatoon? I mean, Octavio endured 2 rounds of that song, but remains vigilant in his goals, so if an Octoling followed that same path, would "she" (Because I've yet to see a Male Octarion Octoling...) be shunned as a corrupted soldier or be used as a spy or personally trained by Octavio to help in reverting "awakened" Octolings or developing an "anti-Inkantation?" Anyways, great job on the video, Yume! Sorry if I seem like i jump everywhere, but sometimes little things can get me critically thinking like crazy!

That would be interesting, especially since Octo Expansion didn't actually explore full Octarian lore but only the secrets of the sanitized test subjects. There's so much more we need to know. 👀 Also thanks for watching!

Let me try to shed some light. Someone came up with the theory that the octolings wanted peace with the inklings, and during the showdown with Agent 3, they were enlightened by the Calamari Inkantation, including elite soldiers, such as Generation 83 combat engineer Marina Iida. Two years later, we see the octolings again, but this time, with an upgrade to their looks. My theory is that the new upgrade is so they could resist the heavenly melody, and Octavio forced some of these guys back into the military. It even says in Sunken Scroll 16 of Splatoon 1, "Before the Great Turf War, there were amicable bonds between the inklings and the octarians. They never would've thought that the rising sea levels would force them to fight over the remaining territory." And Scroll 2 in Splat 2 even has a picture of Marina holding a pair of goggles.

@@kanjigodomo9696 your theory might hold water... not only did the Octarians need some gear upgrades, but they probably needed the new Octarians to be distinguishable from the, possibly "corrupted", Octolings and Octarians. Can't risk defectors from returning to the military as double agents, right? The only problem here is the leader himself, DJ Octavio. (I think the Octarmaments don't count, because they are ~99% machine) It's not like he can't hear the music. He even says, "I CAN'T...RESIST THE GROOVE...ANY LONGER!" and you can see him dancing to the Inkantation, but he retains his anger, his ideals, and his drive in the end. He might be the only Octarian that doesn't "awaken" to Inkantation, which is very interesting, to say the least. It also begs the question, is he like the Octarian, derived from an Octoling of incredible strength and power, or is he some sort of elder Octoling?

@@Tiniestvoice Well, the octarians were forced to live underground for over a century when the tide rose again after the war. Not only that, but even though they had the technology to make rocks float (as seen in chat log 6 in OE), they didn't have the electricity to survive. Hence the Zapfish Raid. The main series still claims that we're still in war with the octarians, but adding Marina and the Octo Expansion could prove that inklings could peacefully live with the octolings (I'm still unsure about other octarians because some of then are probably too stupid learn to live peacefully with them and would mess things up even further *looking at the octobomber and octohurler*). I know my theory still has a few holes in it, and I'm not digging quite as deep into the lore of it as I would've liked, but I'm still proud of what I believe.
