Thank you... It was fun... even with all the stuffing up with the dropper tool. It ended up looking mesmerizing in the video.

@@2dgameartguru The bit fazing me was the "grouting" on the individual "tiles". I originally did this simply by putting a grey border around each piece of tiling. I tried using Filters > Bevel > Raised Ridge to give a 3-D effect at the edge of each tile. But with this, it only _raises_ the level of the areas between the tiles. I thought that I could find some way of making the grey border be transparent but could not find any easy way to do this.
@2dgameartguru5 ай бұрын
I would use the sketch shapes [coloured black in my video] and give those a lighter colour and add a drop shadow to the tiles [as well as the 3D/ bevel for depth].

Playing around now with your technique. If you want more randomness of your tiles you can apply extensions>modify path>jitter nodes after you break the tiles up. settings: shift nodes=off, shift node handles = on. Play around with distribution and displacentment. Just don't select too many tiles at one time - crash city.
@2dgameartguru5 ай бұрын
I tried it when doing the butterfly and it did not look quite right and crashed [a few times].

@@2dgameartguru Let me play around with the roughen path effect. Of course you also have filter>distort>roughen effect as well but that is a pixel effect and not a true vector manipulation.
@CelticOneDesign5 ай бұрын
@@2dgameartguru Yup - the roughen path effect seems more stable. Was able to do 400 tiles at a time. Combine the tiles then apply the path effect then break them apart.

I have seen several techniques for doing this but I think your method would be suitible for my Celtic designs. I would simply do a single knotwork cord. Convert it to a symbol. Reuse the symbol throught the design where that particular knot cord is used. Move to the next cord pattern. When I get a chance - will try it. Thanks!

Sounds very doable! Good luck!

does Inkscape have a mirror tool like Krita or any other software?
@2dgameartguru4 ай бұрын
Vector tools rarely have a mirror function [like the bitmap based tools e.g. Krita] but it's easy to create a mirror effect by using clones. Create a rectangle, group it, make a clone, flip the clone, and reposition it to match. As long as you work within the source group [or paste content inside] it will be mirrored in the clone.

I have been a bit slack on the game art tutorials lately - as I stopped working on games 2 years ago - but need to get back into it. Any videos in particular you would like me to update?
