If you want the stitches to all run horizontally you would use fill stitch and not satin stitch. Just use the inkscape lettering tool to make your letters, select the whole letter path, object > object to path. Inkstitch > tools: fill > break apart fill objects

I'm guessing you mean the rungs that cross the rails for doing satin stitches. The rungs are necessary for inkstitch to know how to create the satin stitch. This! This! This is exactly what I need. I have been trying to convert calligraphy font to satin stitch. Trying to do so there was multiple jump stitches crisscrossing a letter and the satin would not follow the curve. More steps, though the results will be what I want. I will just have to build a library of single words that can be combined with other of a like font, such as Happy, Welcome, Love, Anniversary, Merry, Greetings, Wine, Cheer. You get it. I can build a library of just single letters too for initials of people or things. Inc. SNAFU, LOL, U.S.S., Etc. Question. Can I trace bit map on the font to put a border around a letter or word after using this method, Trace bit map, object to path, stroke to path, no fill, stroke 3mm. ?

Nice tutorial! How can I make the ends of each satin stitch stroke match the original's convex or curved cap, or even taper/point? Looks like you opted for a simpler flat edge in each case.

Taper is pretty easy. Add nodes to the end of the satin stitch and then put the last one or two on each side closer to each other

I am following along and have made my 2 lines going up and combined them but it won't do a satin stitch . I get each line separately. I get an error that says object has a fill but should not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Select the object you have made, go into fill and stroke (objects > fill and stroke). select the fill tab and hit the x (make sure there is no fill). Select the stroke paint tab, select flat color (right next to the x), and make sure (at the bottom) opacity is 100%. Check stroke style tab and make sure dashes is set to a solid line, not dashes. Let me know if this helped, if not we will troubleshoot more.

Love your videos, however inkscape wont allow me to type any text it just shows a box. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you 😁 Lots of questions... 1. Is it the inkscape text (on the left side menu) or inkstitch lettering (extensions > inkstitch > lettering) 2. Can you left click on the text box and get a cursor? 3 is there a cursor but when you hit a key nothing shows up? 4. Do letters appear in the text box but not onscreen?

I need help! Thank you for the tutorial! I am trying to do the satin stitch to running stitch into a satin stitch, but whenever i hit the params button to preview it, the running stitch does not appear! I even put the object layers in the correct order (bottom - up) and it still does not show up.

If you're selecting more than one object, one or more satin and a running stitch. The running stitch won't preview in params. To see it working together you actually have to do a simulator preview and the running stitch will show again

Hmmm MRS, MS, and Miss are giving me fits. "M" and "R". The way that the vertical and the angles come together for "M" and the open center in the "R". Break up "M" into two verticals and "V" ?

If your M is stick figure not rounded you might be better of doing each stick as in | \ / |. For the R do the first up | then do the rounded part from there down to the leg. Do a running stitch to the bottom of the leg and satin back up. Then finish off the rounded part.

Hey buddy. I've just started learning how to digitize (your videos have helped so thanks for that) and I've got a good start, but I'm having troubles with the runner stitches. Every time I add one like you do where necessary to help avoid jump stitches, nothing changes. I don't combine them with the area I'm adding the satin stitch. I have it below the stitch, I have the dotted line... I cannot figure out why the runners wont do their job. Any suggestions?? Thanks man. Much appreciated.

When you have the need for a running stitch to get you from one place to the next without jumps, those need to be in order of stitching. In other words in this video, the horizontal for the D is followed by the running stitch to finish out the shape. So it goes satin stitch > running stitch > satin stitch. In the example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnfHgqh-hZqXiLs remember that the order of stitching goes from bottom up in the object tree.

Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. However, my inkstitch says "has an empty 'd' attribute" error when i run the params. Would you happen to know how to fix it?

This will often occur if you're trying to run params on a non vector object (like a jpg or png image). Make sure you're not including an image file in your params selection. It can also happen if a node has a zero attribute. try Extensions > Inkstitch > troubleshoot > clean up document Also you may run a troubleshoot and it might explain how to fix it If neither of those is the case I would need to see the svg file in order to figure it out. You can attach it to an email to [e-mail] if you'd like me to have a look.

Inkstitch uses either nodes or rungs to make satin stitches. Without rungs the number of nodes on each of the rails needs to match. Otherwise you must use rails. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2SbeH5tnreoZs0
