Yeah, I've found that going into Inktober with no prep usually leads to me not finishing the challenge. So I'm prepared this year. We'll see if it makes the difference.

Heads up: soup is on your prompt list twice (17&29)! I already have a prompt list I'm and an idea of what to draw for about 2/3rd of that list, but who knows if I'll get my butt in gear to actually get any of them done. I feel though that this year I'm more prepared? ready? for the challenge going into the month. I'll definitely be coming back to this video throughout the month, especially when I'm feeling unmotivated or uninspired!

Tip: You can clean your dip pen's nib with a magic eraser. Get's all the dried ink off.

this is my 3rd year in a row doing inktober and i've prepared a lot this year because I really wanna be proud of every piece I create. and yeah I think people take the "rules" of inktober far too seriously and ultimately I think it's about what you, as an artist, want to get out of it. whether that's drawing every day, or specifically lineart, or whatever. good luck!!

thank you for this. you articulated a lot of the issues i was going through with Inktober. i've always considered myself an artist, from as far back as i could remember. i'm in my 40s now... and i might draw once a year. maybe. I heard about Inktober and got super excited by the idea. I did six drawings before i burned out. Like you said, creatively exhausted. and then my sister asked me what it was about. and she asked me to do a drawing. based on the word "sister." and i did. and it... wasn't good, but y'know what? i had fun doing it. and my sister loved it. i stopped doing the prompt words, and i've stopped trying to do one a day. but i've produced more art (whether or not i thought it was any good) in this month than i've done in YEARS. I can't keep up with the one a day drawing. but Inktober reminded me. hey, i actually like doing this.

I've done, but not fully completed Inktober for two years. This year I'm going to post my stuff on instagram for the first time. Yikes! Thanks for your video. Love how simple and positive you keep it. It's easy for us common folk to get spooked by all the fantastic art and talent out there, but really it is all about improving our own work at our own pace. Thanks for the tips! I felt a bit iffy about sketching beforehand, but you are right... Sketching beforehand may indeed what makes it possible for you to even ink during Inktober, especially if you have a limited amount of time to ink

Thank you for saying that it's ok not to finish because it's supposed to be a challenge. It is a challenging thing to do and it's ok if it ends up being too hard, it's the trying that's important. I'm just a beginner artist but I'm trying the Inktober challenge. I'm prepared to be unhappy with some of the things I create over the month and that's just the way it's going to be. I'm doing it to practice using ink and to draw things that I normally wouldn't. I'm using the official prompt list (or going to try) to get me drawing things I wouldn't normally think to. If I really hate it after a while I might switch to yours because it looks fun... or maybe I'll use yours instead. I don't know, I have a few days to decide.

Thanks for this video! At the beginning of this month I created my one prompt list, but then later thought, “What am I thinking, I don’t have time for this!” I kept thinking of Inktober as this thing that you had to do daily, you had to finish a big piece, and you had to make it to the end of the month. It just seemed like too much for me, and I backed out. But this video made me realize I can just do some little ink “doodles” whenever I can. (Also thanks for the sketching-in-advance tip, that’ll be sure to save me!)

I second all these tips, especially the sketchbook one and the Instagram one. The past year I really enjoyed the fact that my friends were also exited to see my new inktober drawing every day. I would like to add you shouldn't think you are only allowed to use black. I use ballpoint pens, waterproof markers, and ecoline ink in all the colour variants, besides the normal black Indian ink or fine-liners. In the end the challenge is about you creating art and having fun, so follow the rules that you want to follow.

for those who feel guilty sketching in advance, remember why you're doing inktober and what you hope to achieve from it. the general purpose of inktober in addition to drawing every day is to focus on one type of media (ink) and refine your skills, so sketching is something optional either way and choosing to do it in advance is fine. having sketches prepared doesn't take away from anything, it just allows you more time to focus on inking if you aren't used to it or if you know your days will be busy. either way you'll be drawing, so don't feel bad for making it easier for yourself!

I’m not gonna sketch ahead, but I’m definitely going to think of ideas for at least the first 5 prompts on Jake Parker’s list, so I’m not struggling on what to draw. Also, I’m gonna try to do really simple sketches so I don’t overwhelm myself and can get as many prompts as possible

I have some prompts for inktober (I’ve never done it so I don’t know the rules) *_HALLOWEEN_* • A cat wearing a pumpkin • Ghost horse with a ghost riding on it • A cat in a pumpkin • Demon animal • Demon angel • Half demon half angel • Vampire / Witch / Zombie carving a pumpkin (Maybe zombie has a bad one due to the fact welllll... zombies have no brains) • Hooded figure holding a creature (silhouette?) • Person with scrunched up eyes and hands on head and inside head maybe like monsters clawing and banging on the inside? *_OTHER STUFFS_* Step one: get a dice or 0-10 number generator Step two: Use the first word of that number (e.g 1 = futuristic) Step three: Roll Shauna nd use the second word (e.g 1, 10 = Futuristic & Ominous) Step four: Have fun! 1 - Futuristic / Guns 2 - Old / Sad 3 - Cat 4 - Intimidating silhouette / Fire 5 - Muffin - Sad 6 - Banelephant ( banana elephant ) 7 - Cake - Happy 8 - Umbrella - Rain 9 - Underwater - Dancing 10 - Ominous - Dark Edit: Anyone can use this

Yeah, any ink will work. Most people use microns and stuff, but anything that uses ink will count! The rules aren’t super strict so don’t worry about it :)

Any ink works! ballpoint pen, gel pen, bottled ink, markers, felt tips, sharpies, dry erase marker, copics/alcohol markers, fineliners, brush pens, anything! You can use colors if you want if you're using something that has various options, you aren't really limited to anything if you don't want to be. Equally, you could also limit yourself to just a pencil for the sketch, ballpoint pen to outline and a grey marker for value. Everyone chooses their supplies differently, but anything works!

This year I attempted to do mermay and expected to do one everyday. It was a bad idea making myself believe I could though since I got so behind I ended up only managing to do 11 days. So for inktober I'm just going to do as much as I can and not set my expectations so high especially since I've just began getting a whole ton of homework lately.

I swatch'd out the variety of ink pens (rollerballs and felt) and brushed lines with water. Most cheap black markers have a variety of mottled colours when water brushed and the old fashioned Bic doesn't bleed at all. It's just a thought for you. I hadn't money for India Ink, either.
