Inktober Advice: Tips on how to make it easier and a look at my process

I completed Inktober in 2020 and using a light box with my sketches was the only way I was able to complete the challenge AND I converted most of the good ones into shirt designs that I sold as part of my Shirtember challenge in 2021! Great video - new subscriber here!

Last year was my very first time I participated in Inktober. I managed, or struggled I should say, to complete all 31 days but boy was I a basket case when it was over. I'm so glad I came across your video. I'm very much going to take your advise and not create pressure on myself. Thank you for the tips and ideas.

I'm not drawing well and I will draw from references but I will participate in this inktober. I have a lot of fun while drawing and it's an activity that truly relaxes me. I will check your list and others and will get inspired to create my own. Thanks

I always mix different prompts (and usually never finish lol), but also using calmtober (I think is what it's called) and peachtober!!

I think youd id great in all years you participated but finding indeed the way that works best for you is crucial and not always easy. I completed 2019 and 2020 but I put so my pressure on myself I often ended up being unable to draw for a while because I was tapped out of creative energy. I am participating again this year but like you made my own prompt list, set limits and a theme and keep in my mind that this is for me and no one else. This is a great video, I hope more people find it and get inspired by it to give it a try even if it seems daunting and scary because I know that everz year I have done it I did grow as an artist and in my style. Great tips Wendy. I think people easily get caught up in the idea they have to do everything on the day and not miss a day. I'm going to attempt it this year but I plan on makings a list of ideas and doing all the sketching in September so then it is just the inking I do in October. I'm thinking of keeping the illustrations small but that depends on what ideas I come up with I guess.

These are good ideas. I know I have planned to do some of the same things because I wasn't able to be super successful in the past either. I am so excited for your little upcoming project. I love it! My favorite game I have ever played was originally a kickstarter as well.

I can totally relate and agree with you. Last year for the first time I participated in inktober and I made my own list and that's not even 31 i made a list of 15 so that I can draw every alternate days. I also go for my own prompts because I know I'm not quick enough to think for every prompt everyday and that will be very overwhelming for me. So it's better i can come up with my own. The final goal is to draw for myself isn't it! And hence I decided to make a 31 list for this year inktober and I already started writing down the prompts. Hope I can draw for whole 31 days

Im thinking about joining the inktober challenge this year for the very First Time and there is something im really curious about: do you know if its ok to use reference or will This count as cheating?

it is absolutely ok to use reference. It's how we learn. even as children learning to write, the teacher would show use reference of what each letter looked like. Never feel bad about using reference.

Not techno savvy here... I don't understand posting it online with a hashtag... I have a blog.. do I post it on there and hashtag it? Um... I'am on Facebook but don't really post anything ... Do I post it on there? And I guess you can hashtag it on there?..

I think the purpose of the hashtag is so that people can search it and see everyone’s work in one place. And I don’t think you HAVE to post it really, the idea behind that is supposed to be for accountability, you know, you say your going to do a thing and then show that you did that thing. But I also don’t feel you HAVE to post either if you’re not comfortable doing so. The point really, is to have fun and grow your skills. 😊
