Inland Wild Trout! First Attempt!

Since being ruined from the out of state fly fishing experience by hooking into some awesome fish, I kept telling myself I wanted to try around here in Wisconsin. We went into this practically blind with ZERO experience here in the state.
After a bunch of research, I found some streams around the Waushara County area that showed a Class A designation. While the ones we hit are not capable of "big fish" in the trout world, Chase from Badger Sportsman and I decided to give it a try anyways.
It took some time to find a good stream, not to mention even hook up with a little one... but we finally did towards the end of the day! The scenery was amazing and the experience was just what I had hoped... Minus the breakdown haha! We will be doing this a lot more.
Hope you all have been doing the best as possible the last several months. Lots of vids are at the ready and I'll start uploading them every Thursday and hopefully more frequently when the ice hits!

Glad you guys finally got on some! They do get a lot bigger than that in Waushara County, and when you find the big ones you'll really be having fun.

I've been trout fishing waupaca County for 35 years. Fly rod to get a chunk of crawler under the bank is how my grandpa taught me. I've caught browns over 15" in tiny streams. May opener to mid to late June is my best because the plant growth isn't so bad

Head upstream and cast towards shore...Waushara has a ton of great spots for trout fishing!

Hello, A wisconsin trout fisher here. Most trout streams are brushed in, so use spinning rods with light line on it, like 4 lb. Mepps size 0 0 works very well for trout, but threading a Nightcrawler on a hook is probably the best thing, put a sinker on it about 18 inches up the line. Bobbers aren't the best for fishing trout, as the giveaway the Nightcrawler.

What works best for us in waupaca county is small rooster tails and I seen you had a fly rod is nymphs and dry flys

Check the DNR website for the creel surveys from when they shocked some of those streams. You will be amazed at the average sizes and some of the biggest fish they got. It’s not uncommon for there to be 20+ inch browns in the bigger streams. Waushara county has some of the best trout streams in the Midwest. Thankfully a lot are full of poison ivy and sumac and keep the city slickers out 🤣.
