Inlay Die HACK! Must SEE!

*NOTE* After publishing this, I've received notes back that Jennifer McGuire showed this technique long ago.I guess this wasn't as "new" as I thought! LOL! I've seen others use Press n Seal once they have done arrangement on card fronts, they they just pick it up like you do and place it on the card front, the videos I've seen are usually done with a flower/leaf arrangement. It looks so easy! I've got Press n Seal is my cupboard unopened, time to get it out and use it!

That’s a great hack. I love the card you were able to create using the beautiful gold foil cardstock. My question to you is how were you able to pass that through your die cutting machine with all the scratches, which I know are normal on your plates and not transfer them to the gold foil piece. I haven’t been able to do that unless I use a new cover plate.

Not a new hack, Jennifer McGuire has been touting this use for Press n Seal ( which her husband invented as per JMcG) for eons! Sorry!! But glad you found it for yourself. Loved your inlaid card! Where did you find the marbled paper or card stock?? 😘👍🏾✨

I’ve edited my original apply to acknowledge that this was shown by JM long ago. Not new after all! I knew her game for Press’n Seal and how her hubby designed the product but didn’t run across a full inlay design used the same exact way. It’s out there though. The paper stack is Recollections and is called Wood, Marble & Brass. Pretty sure I got it at Michaels.

Why not just use a solid piece of background paper ?

Always an option but there will be a raised area because you’re not filling in the empty shape. In some cases that might be preferred if you’re looking for more dimension. When filled in, it has the look of wood inlay or a puzzle that is complete. You can see the seams and it’s a nice finish. As with all design techniques, using it or not is up to you depending on your design goals and time you may have to work on a piece. Thanks for the question.
