I'm tired of paying the upkeep for prisoners. Give those elite convicts the most decrepit, torturous conditions, feed them gruel and chain them up to work fields. They should be paying for themselves while they do their time.

I would like solitary confinement or not being allowed out of the room if I ever was in a prison (as long as they didn't do it in an attempt to screw with me)

@86Kdogg I am sure you broke the law several times. Even going 1mph over the speedlimit is breaking the law. If you ever cussed in public, that can be considered disorderly conduct and that's breaking the law. Don't post naive comments. Every story is different.

No that isn’t. Could they arrest you of course. If you fight it there is zero chance in public for cursing

They should be paid, as federal inmates are. Not with that shoddy excuse of substinance they consider human rations. Unfortunately, not a lot of people pity them, however they are in Georgia and anyone can end up there behind bars just on heresy. Sick system.

When they pay their own bills, feed themselves, and provide goods or service to society one is willing to purchase, and not work outside a community they've taken actions to be separated from then you have a point. But, frankly- you sound nearly as narrow minded and ignorant as these men do. What you're expecting is like having a dorm above a grocery store, and all the shoppers are employee and work and live there to., but although their supplied everything they need in terms of food and sleeping areas and rest rooms some person from outside not purchasing anything- nor allowed in the store gives them their money? .....logic.... I think our prison sentences in US are too hefty, but I also think you're wrong, and obtuse.

@quixz9 So you are a Criminal Justice Major and 1mph over is not breaking the law?I seen a woman try that in the state I live in,North Carolina, she had driven from Atlanta to Greenville NC the day of traffic court.I was there for going 5 miles over 65,she was going to fight it because she was only going 66 mph,1 mile over. When she finally got to speak to the judge she told him and he said"Sorry you made such a long trip but here in NC if you are going faster than 65mph Guilty.Pay as you leave".

@BeeSqueezer You obviously have no idea about what goes on in prison. If you tried some ignorant shit like that you would be killed. You fail to realize that an inmate doesn't have much to lose, and if you're going to antagonize them to that extent they will eventually lash out. You'd be endangering your life, your coworkers and even the lives of your loved ones. Many of these people have outside connections and it's nothing for them to have someone follow you and do harm to you or your family.

Imagine $44-64 per day,(16,060-23,363/yr) per inmate and you get folks to do work without having to pay them for it. meaning you don't have to hire at lest 100 people at about 39K a year. People need to wake up and consider that these corporate jails have a vested interest in stirring up anger making more things felonies, and demands to for more longterm mandatory sentencing so the judge has no discretion. The companies can count your dollars, Lives are ruined, and states are bankrupted.

@bigj687, if you want to pay the bill for people to be given long ass sentences for nonviolent offenses then you should also the pay the bill to give humane punishment, as is constitutionally required. It costs cash for a medical examination here in my state, and you are only paid 19 cents an hour. When you only work 4-16 hours a week, it's no surprise how many die of medical problems that they can't get vital care for.

@scyth168 I beg to differ. I have a brother in prison and one who just got out. They got paid for working to pay for things like stamps, paper, books, pencils, pens, ect. Things to keep them sane. Your ignorant. Not everyone who goes to prison is the "bad guy" you are assuming. Each one deserves to be treated different based on their attitude and willingness to cope.

If they want to stike and not do their work, why should they get rewarded? As the one said, what have we got to lose? Sadly, he's right. They proved that they don't even have to work and yet they still get fed, etc. They want to skip work, why should they be any different then the honest people on the outside. If I skip work, I can't eat. Instead, they skip work and I still have to pay for their meals. To hell with that! Let them go hungry, that's what they have to lose.

@bigj687 You look to the rest of the world that has lower crime rates they do several things. First the government runs the prisons. The guards have 2yr of training. No one under 21 goes to jail for more than 8 yrs.The only crimes that get more than 10 yrs is murder or terrorism. The really work on rehab. Most crimes don't prevent you from getting a job. Every European country that adopted US style of punishment has seen their crime rates explode.Take away jobs and hope and you get re-offenders.

@LB5694 yea, I think i heard that as well.. good man, rapists are the worst humans for real, and I heard that for their own protection the rapists are put into solitary confinement cause the other prisoners will tend to give them a little beating once in a while. the effect they have on their victims lives is worse than murder, because they will be haunted for the rest of their lives and wont live normal. So sad, we should have rapists put to death.

DEUNIONIZE THE POLICE FORCE.....FAIR PAY FOR INMATES...You get 100 bucks when leave and 34 cents an hour to work. Not enough to help yourself when you get out. I support the inmates. Fix the laws that make no sense and spend money on rehab not prison cells.

@quixz9 Well come on and see the Great Police State of NC.When you are finished with your major you can tell any cop anywhere that you know the law and by God he will probably rip the ticket up on the spot.We adults welcome you to the real world.California does seem to be in the news alot about cop brutality so I would not lecture the officer too much.
