Deku wasn't hiding his power more so the origin of it. As for why Jinwoo is hiding his power it isn't because the show is trying to fill a trope. It's literally partly what Montana described. He has no benefit exposing his "secret" at his current level because he'd end up just being used and swept in to either the government or the guilds and his avenues of growing stronger would be restricted. However like they say multiple times in the series, S ranks are above the law and so if he manages to make it to that level before coming out and exposing his growth he'll be able to dictate how he lives from that point on without having to worry about someone trying to do anything nefarious to him or his family to try and find out "why" he's like that.

Montana is right, using prisoners like this means there is an incentive to give hunters harsher sentences because they have the means no one else can choose to acquire to lower their sentence. The action itself being financially beneficial because of the essence stones and mana crystals(which the gov wants as an energy source). Using the grounds of "hunters have powers so we have to make punishments greater as a deterrent", hunters who are lower rank will be exploited while high rank ones who get a ton of money will be able to avoid the system.

The next episode goes into this a lot more, but the real unethical aspect is: hunters can commit terrible crimes - murder, rape, etc. - and get away with it. Next to that, any other consideration sinks into perfect insignificance.

The Hunters guild president Choi is not the greatest of all time. He’s only considered the strongest hunter in Korea by the public, but in reality the strongest hunters in Korea at the point that you are on the anime are the Hunters guild vice captain Cha Hae-In(the only female S rank in kore) and the Head of the Hunters Association Go Ginger(the old guy in the government agency). Gunhee dosent get a lot of attention because he’s a government official and doesn’t do PR, and because Cha Hae-In is the vice captain of the Hunters guild and Choi is president, people assume he’s stronger. Cha Hae-In is also a the most recent S rank who hasn’t been a hunter for very long as compared to Choi that’s why she dosent have a huge rep yet.

He's called the Ultimate Weapon. not the Ultimate Weapon of Humanity. in terms of strength he is only 3rd in just Korea alone. but he's called the Ultimate Weapon because his particular fighting style makes him a better attacker than the 2 above him. the other two have better overall strength. Guildmaster Choi would struggle to even make it top 50 globally.

I mean, under our current rule of law, we have prisoners doing dangerous jobs as an "option." Prisoners are used as fire fighters since there is a lack of volunteers. Giving the illusion of a choice by the people holding the keys to your handcuffs is not really a choice.

Sending convicts onto a dungeon in exchange for a shorter sentence. It's basically just a more life-threatening form of community service exclusive to hunters. I wonder how much your sentence would change depending on your performance & behaviour in the dungeon, the dungeons rank & how much rides you take part in.

The inherent bias that would be a bad reason to have the prisoners do raids is there is a clear incentive to jail people just to do free raids it reminds me of the movie death race where they frame the main character of killing his family then has to drive the death race to get out of prison

"Wouldn't someone with your issues just get in the way?" Keep in mind, this is her MOTHER. So out of anyone, she'd probably have a good idea what Joo Hi's like. We've literally seen how easily she freezes up in tense situations, and Hunting is practically ALL super tense situations. Her mom's RIGHT, she's gotten in the way more than once, and she doesn't go on B rank raids so she's choking on EASY MODE. Basically what her mom is saying is she has a crippling fear of blood, and she's trying to become a surgeon. Like there's a point where you just have to say "Stop with this nonsense and just come home." People seem to RAGE against parents not wanting their children to walk into fucking MURDER HOLES as a profession especially when they have some personal problem that makes doing such a thing 10 times more dangerous for that child specifically. I DO NOT understand it at all, you'd think you would PRAISE a parent for wanting to keep their children safe, but apparently it's "none of her business" what Joo Hi does to get herself fucking killed for what to a B rank should be chump change. Dungeons are insanely dangerous, and not just because of the monsters, we LITERALLY just saw Jinwoo had to MURDER 6 people because THEY decided they could maximize their profits if they just brought 2 tag alongs and murdered them inside a dungeon. It's not public knowledge what happened, but it would be public that 8 people went in, and TWO came out. Then everyone knows about the double dungeon incident. We literally JUST saw that guy's wife not wanting him to raid anymore because it's so damn dangerous, and he literally left people to DIE in the double dungeon BECAUSE he had a family. What is the SHADE being thrown at Joo Hi's mother? Seriously, she's worried her daughter is going to get fucking butchered in another dimension trying to do a job she KNOWS (and remember, she is CORRECT) her daughter isn't suited for. Now we don't know what the issues she knows about are, but we do know she has them and we do know they routinely get in the way of her performing at the level she should be at. B rank is really strong, but she struggles doing D rank dungeons. Come home and join the family business is a VERY good piece of advice and Joo Hi's being very IMmature to blow up at her mother for "trying to control her life". Now if she's a helicopter parent and Joo Hi bounced to get some freedom, that's all well and good, but parents like that are usually so controlling because they recognize how hard it is to build a good life up from scratch and if they have a good route to that life already available, they don't see why they should gamble with their child's future. Call it annoying if you want, but it's not bad, and persisting in something SO dangerous where people die, and often, just to avoid taking the obviously smarter path because you're a rebel child is really foolish. It's like a parent with a good business opportunity if their child majors in business, but the child decides to major in theater because no for real, HE'LL be the next big acting sensation. That parent's GOING to try and crush those dreams because that's the responsible thing to do. If they've gotta get rough sometimes, so be it.
