What a shame, but I'm glad you're okay. I wonder what's making it cutout, especially that Inmotion can't find anything wrong. I've had a V12 hs since 2021and the wheel has been faultless 🤞. I calculated that I could ride over 100km on my wheel, though I haven't tested that out yet.

I am happy that I've decided to buy a KS18XL not a V12. That is good that you are OK. 30KM/h is a speed which could be dengerous in case of a cutout.

Similarly, I outright sold my V12HT at a loss after 1 week on it because I really disliked how it felt. Unfortunately for me I'm located in a city that doesn't have groups or vendors to test wheels. I ordered my 18XL with the funds leftover and it's been a way nicer experience for me, love it.

In my opinion, the split accounts regarding this wheel is due to the fact that Inmotion buys the battery cells used in its wheels from different sources (for profit), so the quality of cells differ from wheel to wheel, regardless of the same model and same batch. This way, buying an Inmotion EUC (maybe this goes for the other EUC manufacturers too, when the cells used are not clearly stated on the selling website page - like for Sherman, Samsung 50E cells) becomes an expensive and dangerous lottery. I think, to change this practice and make the Chinese manufacturers accountable, you, all the EUC customers/enthousiastes should verbalize/made clear/shout out your desire that the dealers ask firmly the Chinese manufacturers to regulate the acquisition of battery cells from one place (the best in quality, not in price) and disclose the cells used and their provenience for all EUCs produced. Until this will happen, buying an EUC, will remain unfortunately a lottery. But if the dishonest EUC KZbinrs are interested in safeguarding this confusing situation, which gives them subjects for endless videos (cutout, why cutout, remedy, diy, improvements of new batch, etc.), then they will not adopt and spread this idea of full disclosure of the name and provenience of the battery cells used in each EUC. Though, you can still write and spread this request in your comments and on specialized sites like forum.electricunicycle.org, also as a request in your reviews on dealers’s sites. Let’s hope, the common sense and our common interest, as customers, will prevail. Thank you.
@landocycle
@landocycle Жыл бұрын
I hear your frustration and agree that EUC manufactures often cut corners and don't fully disclose which battery your wheel might end up with. Unfortunately, the issues run deeper than just that: The first cut-out I had was from a bad motor - it was just a freak accident due to bad QC or manufacturing. The second cut-out seemed to be driver board related. A lot of IM cut-outs were also due to the fact that they were sent a bad batch of mosfets from their suppliers. It's a complicated issue because it's basically just the way China does business for the time being. I wish there was much better care throughout the entire process - from design, part sourcing, manufacturing and QC. For what it's worth, I do believe companies like IM ARE trying to improve safety and probably don't like it when their wheels randomly cut-out and hurt customers. Best we can do for now is vote with our wallet, voice our opinions online and post videos like this to publicize when there are serious issues. Thanks for the comment!
@danmano478
@danmano478 Жыл бұрын
@@landocycle Thank you for your pozitive reply. I am sure that there are other issues that can cause a cutout, like you mentioned (motherboard/mosfets issue or motor issue). I think though, many of the cutouts are purposely attributed specifically to these parts of an EUC, to save the cells used of any blame. Why? Because fixing the motherboards, motors, BMS, etc. is easier and in Chinese EUC manufacturers control, unlike the battery cells, that are produced by third parties and are expensive (being a secondary energy source, by needing gas to be produced - so this “electric future” is in fact more expensive, maintaining, if not increasing the level of pollution). If battery cells have a minimal or no part in EUC cutouts or defects, in the first year, when we cannot speak yet of battery aging, why Chinese manufacturers don’t want to disclose the cells used in each EUC and their provenience? Because the clients would be able to associate the failure of their wheels with the respective cells and producer, and don’t buy wheels with those inferior cells or from EUC manufacturers who are sourcing their cells from that bad cells producer. Isn’t it striking that we know about motherboards, mosfets, motors, BMS, but we don’t know the name of the battery cells used? Until companies like Inmotion doesn’t disclose the battery cells used in their wheels and their provenience, I don’t think they care about the safety of their customers, about spreading this means of travel to the masses. All they care is their pockets. We want full transparency regarding what battery cells are being used, which are a significant part of the high price we pay for an EUC. They should be forced by law to disclose to their clients what they are selling (not only “dust in the eyes”: specs and looks).

The motor was stuck with a metal debris inside. That is not a cutout but a trash inside locking the motor. This can happen from a stone, piece of wood, etc as in this case the trash inside. Inmotion covers cases like that even if out of warranty because it is obviously a mistake from the motor provider. However, when a motor is locked, we have to put the EUC immediately on its side to force it turning off, to save its electronics. Pressing buttons etc does not help. If the motor gets locked, we always have to change the control board or at least do a stress test before riding them again. Because all the electronics are set to huge stress and something may become "ready to fail". To change only the motor is a huge risk of exactly what happened in this case. Most likely the control board got damaged when the motor got physically locked. When going down hill, it was producing full voltage. That tension may have finished by braking an electronic component that was ready to fail after the locked motor event. Now you have to change the control board and it will be ok. I am glad you did not get hurt.

ONLY thing that is a red flag these days is that I always need to calibrate it every time I turn it on otherwise it tilts back and turn super weird .

Any issues with your HT?
@KaizenOz
@KaizenOz Жыл бұрын
Yes. Battery voltage was not the same on both packs so it threw a warning and then shut down after my ride and wouldn’t turn back on. Local retailer replaced a board and Inmotion did a remote calibration for the packs. Then when I got it back it would lose track of what’s level, would slowly start dipping either forward or backwards. Super weird. Did it once when switching between commuting and off-road modes, you could literally see the pedals tilt about 10 degrees forward when it was without a rider. Board was replaced again. Seems ok at the moment. But I don’t trust it after seeing videos like yours and others earlier with boards sent back to China and still no answers from Inmotion in what cause the dumping rider problem. Bring on the Patton…

My V12 HT also cut out on me 3 weeks ago. I was going 24 mph and I ended up with a torn meniscus and ACL . I was at 85% battery, not leaning hard or anything. Only had about 200 miles on it. All of my coworkers are saying I should sue in motion 😂 When I rode slowly (less than 15 mph) I was able to get 55 miles on it. When I rode fast (averaging 25 mph) and some light hills I was able to get 30 miles on it

I swear, every time I come to the decision to purchase a V12HT, another video immediately comes out of it STILL having cut out issues. I understand these issues are "rare" and only happen to a tiny percentage of wheels normally, but the fact that it has happened to 4 - 5 youtubers out of the assumedly hundreds to thousands of wheels they've sold leads me to believe this is a far more widespread problem than inmotion is letting on. There's no way that 0.1% of wheels all happened to go to the handful of random EUC youtubers.

I want this to be my first wheel and I’m dying to ride already but I have the same issue. Doing a range test on a second hand wheel with close to 10k miles and on incline at less than 50 % battery also doesn't help. IMO, the V12 HT is strictly a commuter wheel when your commute is no more than say 15 miles (24km) you should be fine. The rim is strong enough for off road but, without suspension, i dont think its the best choice. I try not go below 50% before recharging. But, at my current rate of speed, it usually takes me 2hrs before i reach below 50% which is pretty good. I think when i get faster and want more range it'll be time for a new wheel. For now, anybody who's been riding for less than a year should probably wait at least a year or two before buying a new, higher performance wheel.
