Ray Broussard nice to know. I bought the Ninebot E+ and I'm riding it almost daily. Absolutely love it but for two points. I'm always hitting the speed limiter and it needs a handle as it's quite a lump to carry around. Seems the V8 is the perfect answer though Ian I'm sure will encourage me to stay with the E+ for a bit as I've only been riding around two weeks. Probably could use a bit more experience...trouble is, I'm not known for my patience...😉

Speedy Feet UK Question, if I may: I just bought a V8F. When it’s on (while idle), it makes a high-pitched noise that’s just loud enough to be a bit annoying. INMOTION says it’s normal. Is that your experience as well? Is that typical of other brands? Thanks!

Great review! My 13 year old son and I have had two V8's for about 9 months now. We live on hilly mountain roads and it's handles my 264lbs/120kg/18.8 stone just fine. One issue my son had was when he restored his iphone, the wheel wouldn't accept his phone anymore, saying the phone number is already in use. So he uses my phone to check his miles or change his light patterns, (say, you didn't mention that part!). On both of ours, starting to have problems with some of the decrotive lights not working and not turning off when the machine is turned off. But they do turn off later. Still a smooth ride though. My son has about 500 miles on his and I'm approaching 300. I use my at work a lot. I've got some vids on mine but my son's channel is much more polished! He is WhiteTailAdventures on youtube. This wheel will keep me happy for a few years so I can wait and see what develops then.

Speedy Feet UK Yes! The lights are replaced by us (free lights provided by seller), and my son's phone now connects. I overload mine going down hills to fast and it says, 'overload. Get off!' Followed by tilt-back. But no crash.

Here in Moscow some guy (lee4er, check his channel) enhances the battery of V8 to 740Wh ;) Fortunanely, there is an empty space inside of the wheel, you can fit 20 more battery elements there. Increases the power of V8 to 1000W, range to real 45-50 kilometers Costs around 300$. Another solution is to buy a portable powerful charger. Stock battery can be fully charged in 90 minutes. This way you can refill like 50% of charge while eating at a cafe.

Wow, Ian thanks man. I have watched every review I can find on electric unicycles. Yours are always hands down the most informative and useful. But this one is the best. It really convinced me that this is the perfect beginner wheel, even though I am planning on using it as a daily commuter around seven miles a day.. I was on the fence, really not sure if this would have enough power and distance but you really showed me that this affordable EUC can do it all and keep going. Thanks again keep on doing what you do :) P.S. what is your estimated shipping times to west coast USA ?

Not merely a good review: I'd say yours are the definitive reviews of EUCs. Always entertaining, and very informative. The pedals on the V8 look rather small. Are there longer pedals available? Failing that, does there appear to be a way of attaching homemade pedal extensions?
@monowheeling
@monowheeling 7 жыл бұрын
The pedals are are 212mm long, pretty much like the Ninebot One pedals. AFAIK, most wheels have shorter or much shorter pedals, notably the 16" Gotway or Kingsong both have shorter pedals, just little above 200mm. I don't know the pedal size of the KS-16 S though.
@Speedyfeetuk
@Speedyfeetuk 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the support. These are the pedals with no upgrade. I have seen people rivet extensions on, trouble is then they become a bigger profile with more of a chance of hitting something when you are riding. With conditioning though the pain fades ;)

I pulled the rubber cover out to attempt a reset of mine one time (don't try this, the V8 doesn't actually have a reset switch, that's a feature of the V5, I believe). To get it back in, I used a small screwdriver to push the top of the rubber stopper into the hole.. Took a couple of minutes of working it in but managed it eventually.

Thanks Ian. One question. Can't you switch it off and use the handle to roll it like a suitcase? Can't understand why it needs to be on. Surely the point is that if the battery dies you can get it home without carrying it.
@Speedyfeetuk
@Speedyfeetuk 7 жыл бұрын
On flat its not to bad, pushing up hill more of a challenge, its doable, but a lot easier if its switched on (and its unlikely you will ever have the wheel in a state where it wont boot up...turn off, wait 5 mins and try again and there will be enough power to push it with the handle).

They are always much higher, mainly because the stats (Like new cars) are released with BEST expected, meaning if you are much heavier than their test rider, and not riding on flat and in 21c these values will drop :)

I used it for about 2 hours in the city. 80% of it was on the sidewalk. It was down to half the battery. So I was the non-worst cast scenario in a range test. I went full speed at times, but didn't really feel like I needed the full speed.

Hi Speedy feet, very nice review. I'm just suprised that you covered only 14 miles (22km) with the battery fully charged...From what I gathered on others reviews and forums is more like 30-37km range. is it due to your offroad track which drains much more battery than an urban use??
@Speedyfeetuk
@Speedyfeetuk 7 жыл бұрын
Its all dependent on loads of factors. 1. Is the distance being measured accurately (through a 3rd part app as well to verify) 2. Rider Weight 3. Terrain 4. Outside temperature 5. Elevations 6. Rain / Dry 7. Number of charges the battery has had Etc :)

I have a question, I'm learning/destroying with a second hand unicycle of a chinese brand very bad, I think that the poor quality is stoping my progression (only wheel me 01). Great review, as always, Ian. This would have been great if it was around in the Ninebot One E+ early days. This will be great for newbies or people only wanting short distances. Personally, other than the tiny battery, problems I have with it are - it's glossy - any drops will really stand out and LED's! Some people are into LED's and even speakers (available on the Kingong's) but I think they are tacky. Was there an option in the app to turn them off?
@TheLillianYoung
@TheLillianYoung 6 жыл бұрын
The Glide 3 doesn't have speakers that can stream music. I find that unfortunate because I use them to alert people to my presence - esp. given so many screen zombies out there (people hypnotized by their phones). I am certainly a noob. This will be my first wheel and I will only travel 4 miles max, so I agree with you on that. There are now covers to help prevent scratches. You can turn off the lights to my understanding in the app. But since that's a year-old inquiry, you likely know that :)

I surprised by your range test result as I bought a used V8 this year and a 100kg rider and feel I can get over 20 miles on the thing with mixed riding. Probably mostly tarmac though and maybe I just ride slower to be fair. I've had around 55% left at 15km several times at least. But maybe the last 30% is going to go fast, I typically don't ride much further than that.

Probably due to you having the v8F model with bigger battery.

Do you recommend Kingsong 16A 680WH or Inmotion v8 480WH assuming they are at the same price? Please help me pick. This is a trade of between noise and distance.

so Ian, how do you feel about the higher profile of the inmotion v8? It sits higher than the 9bot e+. does it feel less nimble and maneuverable because of the elongated body hitting the inside of your legs?
@Speedyfeetuk
@Speedyfeetuk 7 жыл бұрын
No it feels nice and not much difference, in part due to the fact your legs sit more naturally directly up (no leg support covers to push your legs out). If going off road then new conditioning needs to be done on that part of the leg where the upper part of the body touches your leg, as you have to grip that tight just like gripping the ninebot.

Guys, do not buy these wheels or any other EUC for that matter. I have this same exact wheel (Solowheel Glide 3) and when I was cruising along at 12-15mph it just shut off abruptly and I fell forward and off and hit the ground pretty hard. I wasn't accelerating hard or anything, just riding it normally as I had done for the 3 months since I had it (this was an upgrade from a previous wheel I had for a year). It didn't tilt back, give any alarms, it was like the balancing feature just cut off and the wheel went limp and fell forward. I hit the ground hard and broke my arm, cracked a rib, had to go to the ER. It was ugly. I'm telling you, these wheels rely on one feature (balancing) and if that feature fails due to a plug coming loose, the battery malfunctioning, or for whatever reason, you are pretty much screwed if you're going faster than you can run. It's super risky to ride on one wheel like this. If I was riding an electric skateboard this wouldn't be a problem because if it fails you still have four wheels to hold you up but if this thing fails you have nothing. Don't take the risk, it's not worth it. I can tell you that hitting the pavement the way I did was a serious wake up call. It's just not worth it. Don't do it. I could've been killed. Never riding an EUC ever again. I loved it until it malfunctioned and completely ruined my trust in it.

Two year update: Conectivity issues from my son’s V8 resolved. Lighting issues fixed. Just did a range test (with video), after 700+ miles under ideal conditions on mostly flat terrain under the maximum weight loading 264lbs/120kg. I got 18 miles!!! That’s a two year old battery! No rush for a new wheel.
