Wondering what it takes to learn to ride an electric unicycle? Most people can learn, but it is like picking up a new skill similar to learning how to ride a bike. You can do it by yourself, and you just need a little practice.

@Direct Netstores I broke a wrist on a hoverboard after my friend told me "just step off" (because he failed to mention not to step off in a forward direction). This guy in the video is saying exactly the same bullshit without telling you how hard these things can sweep under your feet in a blink of an eye if you're not warned about how powerful these things accelerate when you don't want them to.

When I was learning electronics I learned something electrical either works or it doesn’t and if you are moving forward with an momentum if the power cuts out you are going for a serious spill and don’t know with all your body weight how much of an impact you will make and how many bones get broken. Ouch! I once broke my pinky finger punching a wooden Kung fu dummy and it took my hand two years to get back to 100%. I can’t imagine taking a spill with my 230 pound body, the damage and length of time to recover.

BEST learning video I've seen so far. I just started today (55 year old guy) and was able to actually ride consistently. After stopping and reviewing some vids, this one applies best to me. John Haig I’m impressed. I’m 62 and thought I would be the oldest rider I ever saw on a V8. For turning, I’d suggest getting used to tilting the wheel left or right to turn, or use your shoulders and turn them in the direction you want to go, or a little or both. I find it extremely helpful to look exactly where I want to go, even if I’m going in a straight line. Good luck!

Good tips. Especially when you talk about posture. I am still in beginner mode. At age 58, I am been trying for an hour a day for about a week. I am really good at making a circle, but still need to work on foot control. I have to be more careful than most, so yea I have all the safety gear. Admittedly I look a little nerdy, but my safety is more important than trying to look glamorous. I can taste victory coming and I can't wait.

So typical so frustrating. You leave out the most important part. What cause the wheel to move forward? Where is the accelerator? You say stand as flat as possible then mention put pressure on your toes. Is there a switch or pedal under your toes on one side or both sides of the device? how does the device speed up or slow down or maintain a constant speed? I would think after you learn how to mount it ,a very important thing to understand is the active motion of the device.

@rcgldr
@rcgldr 2 жыл бұрын
For some riders (including me), it is easier to use support to mount and launch to learn to ride first (yaw and tilt steer) before trying to free mount. Since I learned to ride first, I didn't (and still don't) one foot glide, just step and hop on like a skateboard. However, based on this and other videos, a lot of new riders do just fine with the one foot drills and step and tap method, although it seems like it would be more tiring. Another issue is for an experienced motorcycle rider (I started back in 1966, but it wasn't till 1968 that I was properly counter-steering, I'm 70 years old), where you learn that looking isn't going to turn a motorcycle, only (counter) steering inputs. To prepare for lane changes, I"m looking to the side and back while going straight, and also looking to the side for cross traffic at intersections. One of my early goals when learning to ride my V8F was to be able to move my arms and|or look around without upsetting balance or changing direction.

OK, wow, one thing to note about the short pushing-off movements with only one leg on the wheel: you absolutely need side-padding where your shin rests against the chassis, because that thing will not support you while you lift your other leg off the ground unless you're tilting it and leaning significant weight into it through your shin. Without padding this exercise will get painful real fast and you will not get to the phase where you can make longer and longer distances with one leg in the air.

It's not too difficult but you need to invest time. To prevent damaging your EUC. I suggest you tie a thin rope to the handle, so that you don't let it crash repeatedly when you step off when you step off in the learning phase. That's going to definitely break the cover. In fact I still use the rope 3 years later.

I found that just relaxing and NOT looking at the ground right in front of your wheel or staring at the cycle was the biggest help. I learned that from many seasons as a ski instructor. And trying to go slow to avoid an accident is the worst thing, like a motorcycle or 2 wheel bike that is one of the hardest things to do.

There's is some chance of electrical failure, but I don't know what the stats are for failures not related to overleaning or overpowering an EUC causing it to fail (cutout). Protective gear will help in the case of a fall, but it also depends on your reactions and what shape you're in.

The most important skill is to learn mount and dismount, then only ride a few feet and practice sudden dismounts, get good with BOTH right and left foot mounts and dismounts.. you have to resist the temptation to "ride" the thing in a precarious, unbalanced way, you'll just fall off and hurt yourself cause you can't dismount safely. Confidence in these skills will make you able to ride in a straight line easily.

me thinks the reason there are so many comments from seniors is that we're the only ones that can afford to buy these things lol

Just watched a guy on tiktok smoke these security guards in golf carts with one of these things. It was honestly impressive.

I just cannot do that one foot turn thing. It always heads away from me when I press the opposite pedal, which it is supposed to do, so I'm confused how you do that

I saw a guy riding that thing and he almost got hit twice because he kept going when a car was turning and he got in between cars as well. I thought he was very reckless.

The most important question is ..can it go uphill?
@EUCOllective
@EUCOllective 2 жыл бұрын
How steep is the hill? :D Most wheels can go uphill, but if its pretty steep then your looking at wheels with more torque.
@gaurav9396
@gaurav9396 2 жыл бұрын
@@EUCOllective that's the thing.. these things are practical on plane surfaces which most roads are not. With poor urban planning we have roads with gradients as high as 25 degrees. Most vehicles cant climb that. on an average it should be able to climb at least 15 degs to be practical
@EUCOllective
@EUCOllective 2 жыл бұрын
The majority of the wheels offered can climb 15° hills without a problem. Then the wheels with more torque can climb higher then that. I recommend looking up some videos of riders testing these wheels to their limits; not only its a great watch, you get to see how great these personal electric vehicles are.
