Informative video, I have a Mk6 that is clunking from the front Offside, I can see obvious movement and suspect the Inner Tie Bar..... your video suggest it should be a straight forward job. Did you sell your Tiebar spanner ??

Great vid keep them up I literally did one of my inner and outer tie rods as there was play too. I used an extendable tie rod tool with extensions and a breaker bar, it came off so easy.
@jaymono64986 жыл бұрын
H4rry_ thanks! These tools make the job so much easier. First attempt mine didn’t come off and I thought I was gonna have a hard time, but second attempt they came off. It made trying to get them off so easy!

How will I know if my inner tie rods are worn?
@jaymono64984 жыл бұрын
it will have a lot of movement in the joint, you might heard knocking noises from the front of the car when driving over bumps or rough surfaces

Does the steering wheel wobble if you're not gripping it to hard at that speed also?
@chloelawrence85726 жыл бұрын
@@jaymono6498 yeah sort of mainly just the noise tho kinda depend on the road, think it could be wheel bearing right? , also think my shift arm is worn as gears go stiff after long journeys
@jaymono64986 жыл бұрын
Chloe Lawrence sounds like a wheel bearing potentially, does it make a nasty almost creaking sound when traveling at like 5-10MPH? Sometimes with wheels bearings you only hear them if your traveling really quick or really slow. The stiff shifting is a really easy job, just need to grease up the joints where the linkages join, there’s plenty of videos online of how to do it.
@chloelawrence85726 жыл бұрын
@@jaymono6498 thanks I will check it out, going to jack it up tomorrow and give the wheels a wiggle, yeah have seen some videos since I last commented and will have a go at doing it... the wheel bearing job will be a garage job lol

How did you get the outer Tie rod off, I cant get mine free on the lengh where you did 19 turns... mine is corroded itself together so much, if I cant get if off I may have to do both inner and outer.. info on the tool?
@jaymono64986 жыл бұрын
Iso Confused I had only replaced the outer tie rods the week before so they weren’t corroded on. I’ve had to cut them off before in the past! Are you trying to loosen the inner tie rod bolt or unscrew the outer tie rod itself? Try letting some WD-40 soak over night, and if it’s still not moving use a blow torch if you have one available! The tool is just from eBay, called an Inner Toe rod remover/installer. It’s really hard to get a spanner to remove them so this tool makes its ALOT easier 😀
@isoconfused87446 жыл бұрын
@@jaymono6498 ye I watched the previous. I may have to cut off. To get the inners out. Can you provide some details on that tool..
@jaymono64986 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you have no luck with WD-40 or heat you're definitely gonna have to cut them So the tool just slots the Inner tie rods through the middle, and it has a different inserts for different sized inner tie rod heads, and you simply put a ratchet onto the end and use it as a kinda breaker bar to remove or replace the inner tie rod - really useful as its really hard to get a spanner in the right position to remove them. You can find them on ebay or Amazon for about £25 if you type in Inner Toe rod remover/installer.
@isoconfused87446 жыл бұрын
Had coil overs fitted and asked guy to do tie rod ends, in the end he said he couldnt get them off.. so I have phoned around and what I think are high quotes of £120 -£140 with me supplying the tie rod ends.. So Im just going to buy the inners also, and the tool and angle grind the olds off! - Do you grease any parts up btw?
@jaymono64986 жыл бұрын
You can get the parts for like £25 each so the £120-£140 I guess is the garage making their profit ontop.. I didn't grease any of the parts up for this job, some previous gobs I have, thinking of it the outer tie rod probably could have done with some grease
