The DeepSeek release has triggered a major sell-off on Wall Street, exposing what many now believe to be systemic overvaluation and hype within the Project Stargate $500 billion AI infrastructure plan. The release demonstrated that the investment claims driving Stargate were based on inflated projections, with OpenAI and its partners accused of knowingly embellishing-if not outright lying-about secured funding, costs, and anticipated returns. This revelation has shattered investor confidence, as the distinction between "embellishment" and "lying" becomes irrelevant when the intent is to mislead stakeholders into committing enormous resources. Critics argue that the creators of Stargate manipulated perceptions to secure buy-in, but the transparency provided by DeepSeek’s analysis exposed these claims as speculative at best, fraudulent at worst. The result is widespread panic, not only undermining trust in Stargate but casting doubt on other tech projects built on similarly shaky foundations【54】【55】【56】.

These journalists have missed a LOT of the points on this story. The new AI is an open-source model model that can be used off-line. While it is correctly mentioned that the model can be run on a user's low-power laptop, they miss that the point of this is that it doesn't need to connect to external datacentets, meaning that your data stays on your computer. They also failed to mention that Deepseek had a much more limited scope than GPT or Gemini, and that this is achieved by training it on AI models, not massive datasets. I know this story just broke today and you were scrambling to find any experts to get on air, but their lack of knowledge is just embarrassing.

@ The point is that businesses wouldn't need to purchase any of those over-priced hardware. Instead, they can just use their existing hardware which might seem outdated. This is the consequence of Linux but amplified exponentially. This incident occurred over 85 years ago. In 1942, nearly 90,000 Norton bombsights were manufactured at a cost of $8,800 each, which is equivalent to approximately £2,183 in 1940 currency. The RAF Mark XIV bombsight, which was tested and found to be more accurate, cost £60. Ultimately, the Mighty Eight shifted to area bombing. Norton was a master of marketing. Similarly, consider the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, a technological shock to America due to the Japanese trade bans in place, akin to DeepSeek. Arguably, the restriction on access to high-performance chips compelled DeepSeek to develop innovative software solutions using cheaper chips. This situation is comparable to BYD’s success over Tesla, but with a more tangible product.

They got so much kinda half right in this starting with, correct me if I'm wrong, but is Stephanie Ruhle saying NeVidia, not "N"-vidia? Insana compared DeepSeek to ChatGPT, it's actually a competitor to OpenAI's o1 model. It’s a thinking model. The other guy said she could run it on her laptop, which is kinda true, the 1.5b, 7b or 8b parameter models, or a quantized model could run on her MacBook. They didn’t mention open source at all, which negates the talking point about it being Chinese made. It can be totally reconstructed by anyone with the money and hardware, or fine tuned. So you don’t have to worry about using it on your own hardware, even if China made it. It was all a bit dumbed down.
