The plans for that lil trailer was in a late 1940s Popular Mechanics mag. I helped a friend in high school build one back in early 80s. He towed it from So Calif to Alaska.

Then you obviously haven't used one.. someone was nice enough to let me use theirs for getting a truck out of some sand and it tore apart in seconds. I felt bad but they knew they had bought a cheap, gimmicky item upon purchase. What ended up working was digging out in front of the rear tires to the depth they had sunk and placing boards/loading ramps/whatever you have available atop the sand. It was deep and hard pack was a distance so we repeated the process a multitude of times. The rubber foot isn't attached all that well nor is it a robust enough material not to tear apart. May work on a MUCH smaller vehicle

I highly doubt many people would buy the hail protector. Sure it does its job very well, but it takes up a ton of trunk space and hail is way too unpredictable for it to be worth lugging that huge thing around every day

WHY is it that people think they have to stand on the gas pedal in situations like this? BEFORE you attempt anything else, SLOWLY rock the vehicle back and forth until you create about a foot of space in front and behind the tires. In more than 90% of the time, you will be able to get your vehicle out.

@Daniel Page more traction simply means the car will accelerate without wheelspin. Drivetrain is designed to propel vehicle without wheelspin so there would be no damage unless you have a defective drivetrain. Some 4wd vehicles have enough torque and capable drivetrain to pull the vehicle up a vertical wall.
