My wife and I watched the blossoming of wind power whirlygigs on cruising sailboats a decade ago. When we returned south one season about a decade ago, there was a noteworthy change. Fewer boats had these wind generators. Another change: everyone had solar panels. It was like an overnight transition and included a number of big power boats too. The average life of the 400 watt wind generators was no more than 3 years. Our panels are over a decade old and still work just fine. They can run our watermaker and refrigerator so long as the sun shines, which fully met our needs when the sun was shining.

one thing I find in these videos is, that no one mentions maintenance, as good as solar and wind energy sounds, they also require a bunch of maintenance, a little bit of dust on solar panels makes them far less efficient, I love the idea of the solar over farms, and I was thinking how good would it be if the watering systems for the crops were above the solar panels so they not only water the plants but clean the solar panels in the process
@user-hh6ex9md4w
@user-hh6ex9md4w 5 ай бұрын
I completely agree with your point about maintenance being an important factor when it comes to green energy technologies. Solar panels, in particular, require regular cleaning to ensure optimal efficiency. Your idea of integrating the watering systems for crops with solar panels is brilliant! It would not only help to keep the panels clean but also maximize the use of available space. By the way, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a versatile power station that could come in handy for outdoor enthusiasts like us. It has a massive capacity, fast recharging, and even waterproof technology. Check it out if you're interested!

Sorry, but this video is full of falsehoods. Those small wind generators always look like a good idea in tech videos like this one, but when you watch review videos of people from the "van life" and camping KZbin communities actually try to use them, it turns out they are garbage and don't work at all. And the idea of making your own liquid Hydrogen with some small solar powered device is ridiculous. The energy used to split water into H and O is enormous, but the biggest problem is that it is extremely complicated and hard to store Hydrogen, because it is the smallest of all atoms and will just leak out of any container you could possibly put it in, which is why you need to cool it down and use special containers and that cooling also needs lots of energy.

Most people backpack and hike in the woods and or camp in tree lines. This device is fare less useful than a solar charger. A great idea but I know no one except newbies or marketing reps that would carry this wind turbine. Maybe in the dessert? I like the device but it is a device seeking a need not a need being filled by a device. Oh yea, maybe a climbing expedition to the top of Mt Everest might carry it with their wind and cloud cover there? So there is a market just very small and niche.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity - and only at costs very significantly above 1$/kWh!* There is hardly any wind near the ground, and it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the service life of the systems. *With solar systems, you can reliably generate electricity for about 8-12 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!*

you get a lot of devices producing or converting energy. But all have a problem. Just to run a kettle you need 2kw, to heat a house you need 4kw permanent. To create straight hot water you need 27kw. To use hydrogen you need storage, it's even more dangerous than gas, as it diffuses through metal. You need a huge storage battery, more likely from an electric car. You need a combination of wind and solar power, with all the controllers, you need special water storage tanks for hot water with heat pumps. You need backup heaters to avoid Legionella. And in the end, you need a 10kw standby generator, if everything fails. 20- 30 kw Solarpanels,10-15kw Windpower, heatpums. Do you have the money, or do you know an installer who knows all this?? Good luck to you.

Small wind is a complete waste of money if you are using it at home. The amount of power is most directly impacted by the area swept by the blades and wind speed cubed. So the tiny portable wind turbine can produce 40 watts peak means it likely does so at say 20 mph wind speed. So that’s 20X20X20= 8000, but at a wind speed of 2mph the number would only be 2X2X2=8. So literally 1/1000th the power generated, or .04 watts. Useless.

@@tentimesful I’m a huge fan of big wind turbines. Not so much the small ones, mostly because of their cost compared to what you get out of them. That "aerial kite" is the funniest con and fraudulent thing I have seen. That is a paraglider wing foil and in no way can that small foil pull that large steel vessel along in any meaningful manner. It is being held aloft by forward momentum judging by the video clip. What a larff, such nonsense is a soothing libation to parched and empty loony minds. Drill baby, drill. Regards from South Africa

How about we just skip all the BS “green Energy” gadgets. Go right to thorium reactors [Copenhagen Atomics] , save our wide life and land for food and wildlife.

Interesting enough my father had the same idea of the kites and cargo ships thirty years ago. I got tired of listening to his crazy ideas including Atlantic salmons in cages in Southern Chile (40 years ago which turned out to be a billion dollar industry), the segway, toilets without water like on a plane, pay as you go rent a car with a credit car and left there for the next person, and many more, I told him to take it to his patent lawyer which he already had patents and give it to him as a nice gesture to humanity. He was ahead of his time. The lawyer sold many to the Chinese. I only wish now that he had gone 50/50 with the lawyer. The lawyer never gave him the credit for them.

with all those hypes, sadly, none are marketable. Why? as usual, the inventor feel that they deserve OVERPRICED goods price, sometimes 100-400 times the normal market price. They claimed two things: R&D large cost and "unique" nature of the invention create monopolistic situation that they can set any price they like. Some great ideas finally landed as just a household DIY rather than massive productions. They never learned from Chinese product:cheap and massive produced..albeits a little bit lower quality. But once they got profit, they improve the quality. One of the example is EV cars (tesla vs chinese competitor), communication device like Motorola vs Baofeng, and so forth and so on....

Lol, try putting the turbine on the bottom and reverse the wind guides or whatever you want to call them, upsidedown that is so that the wind is forced DOWN not up. Much easier maintenance and you could make the tower twice as high or whatever you want to do. Besides, this " new tech " is a hundred years old 😂. Some people.

With the air directed down it would make it windy at the bottom of the structure, which would be unpleasant for onlookers, but on a roof of a building this would be a great idea.

Regarding portable suitcase size charger for car: common sense suggests that the two be integrated and include passive charging, from wind as you drive. Time of pretending these things can't be done has passed.

That boat one is laughably stupid. Think of all the energy it takes in the setup. The energy in maintenance. The amount of money spent on technical staff for that unit. All around dumb idea. Like wow.
