I mean yeah, but when people understand the "unknown horror" they tend to slaughter it and\or make as much money as they can off of it. But five and six are definitely not about the monster anymore, but about Burt. It's a horror movie, but it's a character driven movie is what it is.

Couldn't agree more, It was a privilege to introduce them to some of my Dnd players by having them come across an isolated pocket of Graboids deep in the Underdark. They ended up using their young dragon ally to trick one into bursting from the ground then used fireball down its throat. Little did my players know however that the 5 remaining outside the 3 they killed backed off due to the threat. When the party had to travel back through that area, later on, we almost had 3 player deaths and they lost all but one of their important NPC's they were supposed to return with.

Honestly, though. As popular as sci-fi horror games have been over the past decade, I'm legitimately shocked that no one has ever thought to make an Alien Isolation style horror game set in the Tremors universe. Where you're trapped in some area with graboids, shriekers, assblasters, etc. and your only option is to run, hide, and occasionally use a show of force to scare them off for a short time as you fight to survive. Hell, they've even done very similar segments in the Resident Evil remakes where you're forced to run away from Mr. X and Nemesis. I think that sort of gameplay would work *perfectly* for a Tremors game. Alas, if they haven't picked it up at this point, I'm doubtful they'll ever do so.

@NeroCM4 жыл бұрын
14:55 I would argue that the initial montage of killing them is made exactly to make you feel like there's no threat. Then as you think you found your footing and start to relax, they flip the scipt on you and suddenly the threat is completely different. You compared the movie to Aliens, and it's a very valid comparison on this point as well. In Aliens, instead of a crew of workers without military training, they go to the planet with a full team of marines. If they had done a single alien like in the first one, it would have died in five minutes. In Aliens they used numbers to make up for it, in Tremors 2 they changed the monster.
@MrStath19864 жыл бұрын
I think that's the point Zane makes but doesn't specifically word it as such; that it's a little disappointing these creatures that were super difficult to kill previously are now reduced to the point of farce, but that it's then highly satisfying to have the Shriekers introduced as they help flip the script and make the finale work as well as it does.
@neonsmoviereviews79693 жыл бұрын

Tremors Reborn: Urban Renewal. The graboids move into the abandoned parts of Detroit. It's up to a land developer and a community center to defeat it and save thier homes. Or an animated series.
@CeeJayThe13th4 жыл бұрын
I'd watch that. The only problem is that really low budget movies in urban settings tend to feel really empty due to not being able to afford the ridiculous amount of extras that you'd really need to make an urban setting feel properly alive. For an example, think of Sharknado (which seems like a very appropriate comparison). It seems like the only people in whatever large city they're in (I can't remember which one it is) is the central cast and occasionally 2-5 extras as shark fodder (chum?). It makes sense the longer the disaster goes on but it makes the movie feel so empty and lifeless. I would just hate to see that happen to yet another cool premise for a campy B-horror movie.

Great Video mate, Love part 1 & 2. Just gotta say though I'd have to disagree on the racism on the first 2 films (not gonna get into the others as I dont care for them lol) The first movie almost all deaths are white people, Edgar, Old Fred, The Dr and his Wife, Nester, and the 2 Workers (maybe one of them was ethnic) and Chang was the only non white to die. As for the 2nd Movie you say there is only 3 Mexicans and they all die, given the core cast is only 4 people they were obviously the ones that are gonna die, the only character that could of been Mexican and survived was the Female lead. So all in all I wouldn't call any of that racism. One more point, I feel maybe you were saying something about sexism in the early movies (if not disregard this ;) ) The first movie Heather you could almost say is the strongest character in the movie as she even saves Burt from been Eaten, and Ronda is clearly the Smartest in the movie and comes up with most the good ideas that saves most the cast. As for the 2nd Movie, The Female Lead is also the Smartest character in the movie again, and as there is no real Macho stuff in the 2nd movie I'd say she is just as strong as the rest of the cast. Again just putting in my 2 cents as I've watched these movies since the early 90s. Also Definitely glad Jamie Kennedy is out of the 7th film, here's hoping they can get it right. Great Video Again mate :)

I was always hoping that they would have brought Grady from the second movie in to the franchise more, he was likeable and a pleasant addition to the characters. As for your comments on racism in the franchise, I completely disagree with that. The Tremors franchise has never been racist. That is a shallow and current year label to stick on any film if a character that isn't white dies. I hear a lot of reviewers use that argument because it is so easy to make and virtue signal. In every Tremors film, be they weak or strong, bad or good, characters die because of the story. You can say that the scripts were weak and formulaic, you can ever say that they were just plain "phoned in". Racism is a very strong allegation to make, even if it is thrown around so lightly now a days, it is totally off base when it comes to the Tremors Franchise.

The franchise has its ups and downs but I can't bring myself to say that any of the movies are bad. Yes 5 and 6 aren't the best. Even though I say 6 is a step above 5. But I love them to pieces and I look forward to 7.

holy crap LOL I love Tremors 1 and 2 but yes, there are terrible tremors movies, specifically the ones with Jamie Kennedy.

Tremors 4 is a great film. Very underrated and the second best in the series imo. Wish it got more recognition. 5 was so bad it pretty much killed my anticipation for the franchise. Only saw a few minutes of the 6 intro before shutting it off. And didn't even bother with 7. So disappointed the Kevin Bacon series didn't get picked up.

I love the first Tremors movie and only watched about 5 minutes of the second. My entire knowledge of everything after that is seeing a Value Pack DVD at Walmart with Tremors 1-5. Guess it's time to see if it's still there, especially since my gf has never seen any of them. I can't believe you watched every single one of them and the TV series, your commitment is impressive.

The first two films had such an impact on me growing up - in my mind, they were up there near monster film franchises with far more mainstream recognition such as Alien and Predator. I revisit them now and, while I obviously view them a bit differently, I still find them a ton of fun. After three, which I really didn't like even as a kid, I was never interested in another Tremors film. However after watching your anatomy video, I might just give four a go - We'll see. :)

Love it when Tremors gets attention. Big part of my childhood. And this is a really good breakdown of the series (and of the 6th movie so I can know what happens in it without having to use that much of my single human life to watch it). But-uh, "people of color characters"?
@frankkennedy638810 ай бұрын
Yeah, it was strange he said that the "people of color characters" have to be killed to make the white people scared? It doesn't really matter what race you are, if you saw a giant monster worm eat someone, you'd be scared.

Burt’s character reminds me, weirdly, of Red Green from the eponymous Canadian classic, The Red Green Show. So there’s a lot of nostalgia in that sort of character for me- the grizzled, partially ineffectual, resourceful, emotionally immature but generally well-meaning, and who, despite his gruff attitude, truly cares for others and wishes to help them. It also helps that Michael Gross seems like such a lovely guy, what a legend.

Seems like I'm the only one here who loves almost all of the Tremors movies except 4, since I was never really into the old western vibe. I love Jamie Kennedy in 5 and 6, with 5 being probably my favorite movie. I love Burt Gummer, and I compare Tremors to Evil Dead, which started out as pure horror, and then proceeded into horror comedy and finally action comedy, with the Deadites in Ash vs Evil Dead being largely minor inconveniences for Ash, much like how the Graboids are for Burt.

I just recently watched the whole series, and remembered how much I love them. Just super solid monster movies with creative design, creative use of the monster's abilities and weaknesses, and pretty fun. Not to mention all the awesome practical monster effects. 5 and 6 are, interesting. I thought 5 was cool in that the monster having a different appearance and behavior on a different continent was fascinating, then was thrown away when back in north american for number 6, they look the same as in Africa. They also both lose a lot of the practical effects that made me love the original 4. In conclusion, 2 was the best, then 4 and 1 are a tie, then 3, then 5, then 6

You state Chang’s character exists to die so we fear more for the white characters even though the white town drunk, the white farmer, the two white construction workers, and the white couple who were building a house all died before him.

I've waited years for a venue to emerge where I could post this comment. The original movie was a masterpiece in every way. Very damn funny. But all of the sequels were lackadaisical at best - barely watchable. Why? Because Hollywood got it all wrong when they tried to build on the success of the original film. Hollywood has a long and storied history of movie series. For example - see the Crosby/Hope "Road" canon. The great mistake the movie moguls made with "Tremors" was to imagine that the critical element in the story was the big underground worms. It wasn't. It was the two lead characters. What they should have done is make a sequel(s) about the adventures of these two guys who kept running into weird monsters. What they did was miss the boat - badly. It would have been as if after "The Road to Zanzibar" (the first Road picture) they had made The Flight to Zanzibar and the Passage to Zanzibar but with other actors like Monty Woolley or Clark Gable. The appeal of the picture was the characters not the special effects.

Fantastic review. I personally love all the movies and show. While the quality varies from film to film....at least there is quality there. It's not like the Puppet Master Series that is seriously just on death's door and somehow freaking keeps getting more and more movies done of it. If the series really wants a shot in the arm, they just need to get Bacon or Ward to come back. That is the shot in the arm the franchise will need if it is to continue.

I appreciate the way you went through the whole franchise. I first watched the first Tremors movie when I was just a little thing, and didn't remember a lot of it from then, so when I found it again in my grandparents movie collection around 13 with only vague memories of a giant monster, I watched it again and realized that I actually loved it. NEw favorite effective immediately. I found the sequels in store a while after that, and currently own 5/6 of the movies, but I've never managed to find anywhere to watch the tv series. It's still one of my favorites and a go-to when I want a movie to watch, and while I acknowledge it has its flaws, I also appreciate the fun and the action and at times the absurdity. It's not an A-list movie, even when it had Reba and Kevin Bacon in the cast, but it's a movie that's pretty easy to enjoy. Thanks for the assessment, and for helping sort out the series and why it is The Way It Is.

There’s a perfect explanation for the three deaths in the second movie to be Mexican first off the oil plants are evacuated so there are not any Mexican workers second the first death was a random worker trying to escape the second guy was a handyman who came to help but got caught off guard by screeches and the third was a lab accident (I think that’s what he was I can’t exactly remember) who again got caught off guard and killed it’s not like they had a agenda or something
