Everything was great in this video except I wish you went into detail on what to do to setup the print for the cube correctly. Is it just vase mode? dont we have to adjust accel and other settings on the slicer to match what our matching recommended max accel or does klipper handle that?
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 10 ай бұрын
The max accel that we get from the testing is not what you should set your max accel to. That value just indicates the highest acceleration you can run, where that particular input shaper will still be effective. Finding out what your actual max accel values are is a whole other process (and video), and I am looking forward to going in depth on that topic very shortly. For the cubes I believe I just did run those in vase mode. I didn't intend for the printing process to be highlighted, just the results of Input Shaping, but it's good to know people are interested. I will try and be more thorough/transparent in future videos.

Hey, thanks for watching ! I haven't ran into an issue like this myself. My first thought would be something is wrong with that small flash device that was sent with the accelerometer. @Psodracer
@Psodracer Жыл бұрын
After a lot of back and forth, I finally solved the issue. This error happened after a glitch during the Klipper.bin flash process with my Raspberry Pi 4. Go to the Triangle Lab website and search for the PDF file "usb-adxl345_firmware-flashing-on-windows-PC.pdf". Here is the tricky part, you'll not be able to click on the download button STM32CubeProgrammer because the communication with the module through the COM port is not active. So you will have to hold the boot button and press the reset button during 1 second and then, push the download button in the STM32CubeProgrammer software. After 9 or 10 attempts, I was able to communicate with the ADXL345 and the flash the module. I hope is going to help you!

Do you need klipper to be installed on the printer? Or could a printer running marlin still use this? Would it be possible to just run the input shaping protocol, get the vibration values and use them in marlin's implementation of input shaping?
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 11 ай бұрын
That's a very smart idea, but you would need Klipper to be installed on your printer. Mainly that would be to tell the printer to vibrate through the Hz spectrum and then have it carry that procedure out. The data that is gathered is kept on the Klipper host device (usually a pi or similar single board computer), so you could trick the brain into operating on another printer for purposes of data gathering, but the actually test that it uses is ran through Klipper. So in the end you would need to have Klipper on your 3d printer. If you're interested in something like that and need help let me know! You can join the Discord server where a lot of other people have made the plunge into Klipper, or I can try and make a dedicated video if it's an issue a lot of others are having.

Leo, you are greatly misunderstanding coreXY idea, Ender 5 is cartesian, BambuLab is coreXY. CoreXY is faster and more precise because in cartesian one motor need to be moved with a head (look at ender 5, Y stepper is fixed, but X stepper moves). In coreXY both motors are stationary, just head moves.
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if I accidentally called an Ender 5 a CoreXY printer, if I did that was my mistake. One important note is that they are both technically Cartesian printers, as they all employ Cartesian coordinates. So you're calling the ender 5 by its 'coordinate' name and your calling the CoreXY by its 'mechanical' name which is not a fair comparison. Obviously their kinematics do differ and it's an important distinction. Besides the stable motors that coreXY employs the routing of the belt is another important characteristic!
@dunkanmacready4766
@dunkanmacready4766 2 ай бұрын
@@PrintsLeo3D Let me start with what I had to say first - you've made a truly awesome video. As for coreXY, I'm afraid you do the same mistake as I did till recently. "Cartesian" it's not about coordinates, they all operates in cartesian coordinates (corexy, cartesian and delta). Unfortunately, for some historical reason "Cartesian" was chosen as a description of a very specific *mechanics*, not a coordinate system. I finally got the difference, when asked myself, why do we need coreXY, if I can just rotate model by 45 degrees. Then for straight lines both steppers will be involved as on coreXY. But the difference is in belt system, where steppers are not moving at all and do not contribute their weight into inertia. "Cartesian" requires one stepper to move along the axis. CoreXY - don't. They both operate in cartesian coordinates.

klipper does take some more time and a bit of research and dare I say troubleshooting. So I think it maybe something to read upon if you only have 1 printer and don't want it to be down for any amount of time. But Leo's video are the best klipper guides online. And there are a lot of helpful ppl on his discord ( including myself) that will jump in and answer question and help trouble shoot. I tried installing back in may and had no luck....tried again and (with the help from discord) that Most of my USB cable were charge only. So I swapped out 2 cables and boom I was up and running. Klipper IS a lot more calibration but the results and gained speed make it worth for me. And you can always flash back to Marlin if you hate it. IF the coding part is holding you back, I'd say 99% is copy paste from the description or one of Leo's articles and the other 1% can easily be searched online or just ask us in the discord. I knew very little about Linux, but between building Marlin firmware custom for my machines and installing klipper I'm getting better. But Between the Video's the guides and the discord it's totally doable. I'm NOT saying it's super easy, but it is super rewarding when you have it up and running. Also nice when I'm watching 3d print video in my living room upstairs and have an Idea and can design, slice and send to printer from there, no sd cards. My 99 cents.

Hey, I appreciate your video and replies! I need more information about input shaping that no one is talking about. What max accel, velocity, and minimum cruise ratio do I use for the test? I have a 300x300 bed so im not sure if I should go for the 10000 max accel like everyone says because its heavy. Then I see people say you dont need to set max accel at all. I also see tons of complicated stuff in the klipper measuring resonances docs talking about max_smoothing values and such. but no videos ever go over these nor do I see anyone talking about them. Sorry to bumbard you with a ton of questions.

after geting the results of input shaper what acceleration you set in your config?????
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 8 ай бұрын
The accelerations you use will not come from any of the Input Shaper testing. The accelerations that the input shaper shares are the MAX accelerations that you could use where the input shaper will still work effectively. Calibrating your max acceleration is a different test entirely. Of course once you do have you max acceleration you want to try and make sure it does not exceed the max acceleration the Input Shaper can use, otherwise it may not be effective. Does that make sense ?

That sounds like it's not functioning correctly. As long as you're continuing to hold boot while you release reset it sounds like you're doing everything right It still might be worth trying to use it for the time being because these do come with some version of Klipper pre-installed. For the long term I'd reach out to the company because it sounds like you will have flash issues down the road.

I'm using an old laptop ruing Linux for my klipper and I want to use the creality accelerometer that uses USB connection, do you think that accelerometer will work whit the laptop? Because I think that accelerometer only works whit the sonic pad
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 10 ай бұрын
That's the great thing about Klipper, it will work on whatever device is hosting Klipper (so long as it has the correct ports). So yes it will work. Now, Creality may or may not have made it difficult to create the appropriate input shaping section, but you should be able to reverse engineer the correct templating from looking at how it works on the Sonic Pad.

If after flashing, you unplug the flash device, then plug the accelerometer into the host device and only a single light is illuminating it leans me to think there was an issue with the flash process. I love how plug and play Klipper makes this for us. Marlin has Input Shaping as well, but you have to know or calculate the data to add into the firmware. Stil ldeciding if it is worth it on my Ender 5 though as I have not yet seen any particular resonant frequencies during test prints. I think the limitation Marlin will face is the limitation of the control board and lack of power and memory on the control boards. The device I was looking at was KUSBA, but the Triangle labs device almost looks like a clone of that device so I imagine it works well.

Just like in your recent comment you hit the nail right on the head! I am late to reply to your message (and I apologize for that) but I wonder if you decided to take the plunge with your Ender 5. I have used both the triangle labs and KUSBA and can vouch for both of their performance. Although I will say the KUSBA seems to be a little more finnicky and has given some users more of a hard time. They both get you there but the Triangle Labs does it a little easier.

@Leo3D I bit the bullet and went for Klipper and with the stock hot end it made little difference over Marlin 2.x versions. There are two big advantages with Klipper though. The use of Klipper Screen on a touch screen at the printer gives a much nice UI at the printer. The second is the remote control without needing Octoprint. There are some subtle differences as well, like getting a little extra speed while keeping good quality prints, but being a cube frame the Ender 5 did pretty good before. The ability to update parameters without recompiling firmware everytime is definitely a big advantage on Klipper also. Overall I will likely stay with Klipper. It's just more subtle differences rather than the "wow" that some will claim Klipper gives. Maybe would be better to upgrade the hotend and extruder before going for firmware changes, but this only cost me time as I had the Pi 3B and the 7" touch screen floating around from a previous project.

Am I going to have to run this same setup for 2 different printers each running a different Pi. Or once I install the firmware into the accelerometer I can just plug into any printer?
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D Жыл бұрын
You're correct you only need to flash the accelerometer once, but you'll need to make sure you set both pis up also. Which means downloading that numpy module (I did through ssh), and also each pi will need the adxl.conf configuration file. The file is the easy part because you can just copy and paste the same file for each pi (if that gives you issues you just have to double check the serial address for the adxl). If you have any questions let me know.

Hey Colin, I remember ! Usually when you've flashed successfully before but it's not working now it's usually either an SD card issue or a nesting issue. For the SD card I would try first to reformat (Fat32/4096 bytes), or if you can try another SD card (and remember to format it lol). For nesting make sure there's nothing else on the SD card besides a folder named 'firmware', and the .bin file is inside. Also make sure to change the name of the .bin file as I believe the Aquilas will not flash the same file twice. So you can just append today's date at the end. Try that and let me know how it works.
@NeoIsrafil
@NeoIsrafil 10 ай бұрын
If you're having trouble with that 2nd command with the ~/klippy-env instead try to cd klippy-env and continue cd-ing until you get into bin, once in bin do the " pip install -v numpy " part (no quotes) . it should work. Took me a while to figure out that octopi has its files a little differently organized so the command kept failing.

So far really like your tutorials, but I have a question: what about if you are running klipper/Raspberry Pi on a PC? can you connect the accelerometer to a usb port to the computer and get it running in Klipper? Also, how would you go about configuring this on a Delta printer, for example?
@PrintsLeo3D

Efrain, yes you can absolutely use these accelerometers when a PC is the host device used to run Klipper! That's actually what is so beneficial about these USB accelerometers. Most all Klipper hosts have a USB port, which means these can be used on just about any device running Klipper (which includes laptops and computers)! I don't have a Delta printer, so I can't speak from experience, but all should be the same. The only difference is, like a CoreXY machine, the delta printers can leave the accelerometer in place while testing both the X and Y axes!

Charles I havent delved too deeply into running Klipper through a cell phone as a host device. I know it has to do with rooting your phone, and a lot of other hoops, as for getting an accelerometer to run I wouldn't really have an idea (besides maybe some massive USB C hub that can run from the phone. Starting it on a PC is a great idea! It's just as easy to set up as the other mainstream options. You can certainly gather accel data while on the PC and then use that info for your Klipper config tbag you're using an another device. If you're looking for a smaller portable option (other than a PC) than the Inovato Quadra is what I would recommend! I have a video on the setup with that device also.

I can't seem to find the KUSBA directions. Did you put a link to them? I'm not very good with tech but I think I have everything set up for my KUSBA to do the input shaping.

Alex you're absolutely right I haven't published the article yet. I have it mostly written just need to tidy up some of the infographics. That being said if you need some help with the last 5% or so I can help you. I can share my config as well because the standard KUSBA config that's readily available on the GitHub is (I think) a generation behind the newer units.
@alexburk9018

@PrintsLeo3D that would be awesome. I had to have a friend get it mostly set up for me but neither of us know much about the actual input shaping. I can wait until you've got the thing written too. I'm not in a big rush, I just don't know what I'm doing. I was hoping it would be more plug and play with the KUSBA but it's harder than I thought.
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D Жыл бұрын
I would say it's way more plug in play than having to solder and connect an adxl yourself but there's still some steps you need to get right on the MCU side. If you follow my video a lot of it will apply, especially the parts about using the adxl and the results you gather. The more kusba specific stuff will be in the article though !

If you are trying to flash the KUSBA using the guide on the website and get the "Unknown initial pin 'PA14' ... Error 255" Make sure to deselect the GPIO pin in the klipper firmware.

@@PrintsLeo3D Yes I was using your guide. Your guide does specify to set the image exactly like. It was my mistake not realizing I had it checked. If you used the firmware image tool to flash klipper, that GPIO pin might be selected at the bottom. It took me like 30 minutes messing around to realize I had it checked because it was towards the bottom. I was a bit tired lol. One other thing I would recommend is running (straight from klipper documentation): - sudo apt install python3-numpy python3-matplotlib libatlas-base-dev libopenblas-dev I just ran and had some issues due to libopenblas not being installed. For some reason I also had to install matplotlib again as well, not sure why. - sudo apt install python3-numpy matplotlib libatlas-base-dev I really appreciate the guide though Leo. I love your content, thanks for all the help.

I can't seem to find the KUSBA article on your website. I keep getting "Printer is not ready. The klippy host software is attempting to connect. Please retry in a few moments.". When I put # [include adxlmcu.cfg] in the printer.cfg, everything works fine after the restart. DId the firmware not flash correctly onto the KUSBA?

The config file is going to look different for the KUSBA accelerometer, so if you're trying to use the same one as in this video you'll get an error. I am going to be posting the article tomorrow in the AM as I am doing a long drive and will be working on it then!

Thank you for this informational video. I had one problem that got solved i thought i share. When flashing with command: "stm32flash -w out/klipper.bin -v -g 0 /dev/ttyUSB0" It failed saying "Wrote and verified address 0x08000300 (0.94%) Failed to read memory at address 0x08000300" on and on again at different %. Tried to plug the usb flash device directly to the pi without hub, usb extention cable. Also in usb 2 instead of usb 3 port. Same fail results. All worked when removed the "-v" command from the line like this: "stm32flash -w out/klipper.bin -g 0 /dev/ttyUSB0" It dont verify i guess but write the firmware and all done, works.🙂 Another thing. Please add your inputshaper.cfg lines in the description or a link to your site with it or something would be awesome😀

Double sided tape or blue tack will absorbe the vibrations. You have to hard mount it/ rigid mount it.
@PrintsLeo3D
@PrintsLeo3D 9 ай бұрын
I definitely agree that blue tack or tape will absorb some vibrations, but from all the testing I've done I've never seen it amount to that much of a difference. While I would prefer to hard mount the accelerometer, tape or tack is such an easy solution that will provide the same or nearly the same results that I think it's a worthy option. Sometimes there's not a ready mount option and people sort of get paralyzed to even try this calibration, I do t think tape/tack are a bad option whatsoever. So I would disagree with the hard and fast "you have to rigid mount it", I believe it's preferable but not an absolute.

@@PrintsLeo3D love the videos. And very informative. I am still struggling this weird extrusion problem. Where the dual gear extruder just randomly slips and leaves gaps and on walls there is visble semi hollow lines during extrusion slips. I tried increasing temp but cause to much stringing slow print and it slips more. Already followed your z-offest and bltouch/mesh setup. I don't know what to do now.

When this happens can you hear the extruder skipping/grinding? Is this PLA and have you tried other spools? Maybe this is something we could diagnose via email (or over a discord?) because I'd love to be able to see the print defects and possible the extruder while it's happening. There's so many elements at play I would hate to start listing each one if I could be more accurate for you. Let me know if you want to communicate through email or other .

I try and break these ideas and concepts down easily. Sometimes when teaching things we can't always use the method we prefer, or the method that may seem the most efficient. We have to try and use a method that will be the most understood by people watching, even if it is not how we may normally do it in our own lives.
