So, you've got 2007 production MRE with its predicted shelf life 2 years (it's usually that for canned food here in Russia), making its "best before" date 2009. No wonder it went bad over 5 times longer than it was supposed to be stored. Though, if you store this in below zero temperature, its shelf life can extend up to 25-30 years. About the cans. First one was canned sausage meat. Next one was stewed beef (with fat on top of it), then - rice with pork, and one left untouched - pearl barley with beef. Mystery "rock" packet was solidified concentrated drink, sort of in between energy drink and juice.

I have a lot of experience eating old canned foods. I have not made myself sick once, so I have some tips. First, inspect the outside of the can. Rust spots, ditch it. bloating, ditch it. Then open the can. Bad food smell, gone. Musty, gone. Spots of discoloration not expected from what the contents should look like, throw it out. Then, as you did, take a small bite. If it tastes bad, do what you did. Spit it out and d not eat. Now these basic rules may take out a few good but strange tasting foods, but small price to pay for not getting a nasty bug. I have eaten canned goods as 1954 without problem.

You take your sheet of paper and stick your middle finger through the centre of the sheet so your finger has a little paper poncho. Then, having taken a dump (obvs), you use your middle finger to wipe your bum, then pull the paper back over and off your finger, cleaning the poo off as you do. The British army used the same technique some years ago (when in the field and on hard-routine, not in barracks, naturally).

I know it's been a while at this point, but here's a full translation of the manual: Instructions for usage, Individual Daily Food Ration. (The serial number indicates 2003 standard, so your 2007 package date is plausible, interestingly enough there's a field on the front of the main package that has the expiry date field, and that field is left blank. The ingredient list suggests ИРП-П-6. 24month storage time, yours is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy expired) Ration Contents: 1. Army crackers, 1/50g. x6. 2. Canned meat 1/250g. 3. Canned meat, ground, 1/100g. 4. Canned meat with grain, 1/250g. x2 5. Tea, instant, with sugar 1/16g x2 6. Drink mix 1/25g 7. Sugar 1/15g x2 8. Fruit jam 1/45g x2 OR nut/chocolate paste 1/50g x1. 9. Multivitamin tablet. 10. Portable heater (stove). 11. Can opener. 12. Napkins, paper. x3 Below are instructions of using the portable stove, statement that canned meat can be consumed both cold and heated, instruction to use 200ml of boiled water for the drink mix, and to use crackers in place of bread. Dessert is to be opened only immediately prior to consumption, tea is to be prepared with hot water, vitamin tablet is to be consumed at breakfast.

Russian MREs (actually IRP for "individual feeding ration") are not as long-lasting as american but also don't cause poopway blockages as it's just regular canned food, sometimes in lighter containers which makes it more sensitive to storage conditions. Wish it wasn't expired as this menu sounds DE LI CIOUS (when heated).
@kimmoj25707 жыл бұрын
Inside limited shelf life those are very good rations. Keeps you going even in cold weather. And they don't keep as well as US MREs, because they are not chock full of preservatives and chemicals.
@rogo73303 жыл бұрын
To be honest, no one in Russia would eat these canned food without frying it (or just go to the forest and hunt wild animals). Now at least MRE better and obviously not expired in unknown storage place, but it is commercial product. Right now, in 2021, this kind of "quality" still everywhere in places like army or МВД universitys, and if you can buy food yourself (or get from relatives), better you do.
@SolidTaylor7 жыл бұрын
Ahh, thats bring memories. During my service in Russian army I had tried this a few times, and I have some warm memories about this MRE. We evenen tried once to steal a pair of this MRE from officers, mostly because of jam, sugar, tee and crackers. Some of items were not nice or even gross, but in the most it had pretty nice meal in it, especialy in compare of this www.google.be/search?q=бикус&dcr=0&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj88fnhvaDYAhWNK1AKHds_A-sQ_AUICigB&biw=1920&bih=986 This is some sort of Bigos or a hunter's stew, according to a wiki. I had tryed this only once, after that I almost literally awoke in infirmary. The rest time when I saw that I preferred to eat bread with tea or staying starving. But the rest of the food were kind of okay, but that differs from base to base - where is many people, usualy food sucks. And yeah, its okay first few weeks, but y always eat the same food, and y begin to hate it even if the food selfs is fine. That was the most problem. And yeah, our officers told us that Bigos is fine and we are lucky that we didn't taste "bears fat". No idea what that is.
@StrangerOman6 жыл бұрын
As a Russian viewer it was super fun to watch. :) I'm not gonna comment what you done wrong or right since it's long away video. But I do get expired rice and meat one time in one kind of this MRE. Started learning Russian recently so I'll give a stab at translation говядина (govyadina) on the big round can that spat at you literally just means "beef" (it would probably be fine if it was less old and also heated up on the stove so the fat isn't congealed) фарш (farsh) on that smaller can means minced meat Item #1 is the crackers x6 Item #2 is "canned meat" Item #3 is "canned ground meat" Item #4 is "canned meat and vegetables" x2 Item #5 is "packet of instant tea with sugar" x2 Item #6 is "packet of beverage concentrate" Item #7 sugar packets x2 Item #8 is fruit jam x2 or chocolate nut paste (cuban gourmet) x1 Item #9 is multivitimins (that must be the mystery pill) Item #10 is the stove Item #11 is the can opener and Item #12 is paper napkins x3 I'm guessing since item 8 gives an option of jam or chocolate paste then the canned meat goods probably get randomly selected from a range so the paper item list doesn't show the type of meat, but the individual can labels do.

the first can (the squirter) says "beef", the last can says "road porridge, pearl barley with beef", the small can that says "фарш" means "minced meat", the "fat" on top of the beef from the first can is not fat but dough, the same as you would find on pirogi, the faded green packet is probably a lollipop-jawbreaker type of thing, the "cyanide capsule" is a vitamin pill. generally speaking, Russian food of that quality is bad.

LOL.... 1. if there are two people that can redefine (destroy) a MRE review, then it is you. 2. You are no where near brave as Steve 3. You made the most enjoyable (to watch) MRE video! And my day!

Glad to see you actually concerned about your food quality. Someone needs to explain to Steve1989MREinfo what botulism toxin is. That guy eats WW2 MRE's

I've heard from other commenters in his videos say that he has gotten sick before with botulism though I don't know if it is true or not, and if it is, which meal he got it from.

As far as I recall, he's only gotten sick from an MRE once, and it was an in-year Ukrainian MRE. As for Botulism, that's pretty much half of what Steve talks about in his videos, he doesn't tend to eat something if he's at all concerned about a risk of botulism.

There are a lot of channels where people eat things they can't read, but this is still the funniest one yet.
