I see alot about enclosure size. I'm wondering if it was not damaged in shipping. Also does DC tell you not to run this sub in larger boxes? If they know it's an issue they should be like oh it's 1000 in this best case scenario but if not then rms is lower.
@gregorijs3kivi2 жыл бұрын
Larger enclosure does reduce power handling, due to increased excursion under and above the tuning frequency (that means the power handling is limited by mechanical limits). Larger boxes actually can help cooling (due to the increased excursion. There are two posible reasons why its coil blew - 1. Playing it for too long near the tunning, when the impedance is low (lots of current running through the coil) and, ofcourse, near the tunning the cone is amlost still (that means there is little to no cooling, because there is not air movent from excursion). 2. dirty signal. Probably the sub burned because of both these factors combined.
@gregorijs3kivi2 жыл бұрын
One more reaaon why it migh have burned - the coil was jumping out of the gap, respectivly - it heats up when it is out of the gap

American Bass VFL 12" comp12d1 Signature is rated at an insane 5 kW RMS, so it begs the question (in my mind): would the VFL handle it's rated RMS? 3 kW of power to be confined in such a small volume/area such a voice coil/gap is no joke. Most small home space heaters are 1.5 kW each, imagine the heat of two of those all trapped inside the confined space of a voice coil motor! Some of the B2 Audio subs are also rated insanely high! Keep up the great work!
@ThatTransistorGuy2 жыл бұрын
he put 7k watts through it. He definitely damaged the suspension. And that small box just hinders excursion while also making it difficult for the subwoofer to breathe. Dc audio's defense would be "we won't honor your warranty because you put more than double its rated power". But then parker's offense would be "my other subs are more than significantly cheaper in comparison to the price of the one that blew. My cheaper subs can take that Burst power and the RMS power all day and they'll only be warm. Nor only that but their RMS rating is lower" In my opinion, yes he did put alot of power in the DB test and the box is too small, butttt his other subs performed better in the SAME enclosure and with the same DB test and it definitely shouldn't have blown.
